BURRANEER BAY PUBLIC SCHOOL NEWSLETTER TERM 4 – WEEK 3

A Message from our Principal, Ms Pantelis

Lifelong Learners

The teachers have participated in some fantastic professional learning sessions after school this year.

Some of the topics have included Quality Teaching practices, strategies to help support students with specific needs, Critical and Creative Thinking, Literacy and Mathematics. Our teachers have led all of these sessions. We are fortunate to have a large teaching staff that enable us to tap into the expertise that exists within our school.

World Teachers’ Day

World Teachers’ Day was celebrated throughout Australia on Friday, 26th October. This day is a great opportunity to acknowledge the hardworking teachers in our school and to celebrate

their dedication and commitment to educating students.

Student Leadership Policy Last year the school reviewed its Student Leadership Policy. The implementation of this policy provides all members of our school community with a clear understanding of the processes involved. It is always a disappointing time for some students who may not be successful in obtaining a position on the school leadership team. We ask parents to encourage their children to be resilient and to trust that the school offers leadership opportunities to all of our senior students.

Kindergarten Orientation The school welcomed our 2019 Kindergarten students and their families to our school at our first Kindergarten Orientation morning on Tuesday. We are looking forward to having them back next Tuesday. Thank you to all who assisted in the organisation of the event, as well as presenting information about our school to the new parents.

This time of the year is extremely busy for the Uniform shop. I wanted to take this opportunity to thank Mrs. Whippy for the amazing job she is doing in offering this service to our school community.

A healthy attitude is contagious. Don't wait to catch it from others - be a carrier.

Tom Stoppard - Playwright and Screenwriter

Warmest Regards,

Ms.V.Pantelis.

DEPUTY PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

School Uniform Congratulation to the students in KT who showcased our school uniform at this week’s Kindergarten Orientation. You were wonderful. Thank you to the prefects who assisted. You were excellent ambassadors for our school. Well done. It has been wonderful to see our students wearing their summer uniform with pride. Thank you for wearing the correct socks and shoes to school each day. A reminder that all students need to wear our school hat every day. Students should wear their hat before school, at recess and at lunch. Please ensure that all jumpers, jackets and hats are clearly labelled with names and classes so that they can be easily identified and returned if lost.

Thank you Last Friday was World Teachers’ Day. Teachers at our school deserve the highest levels of respect. They are fantastic teachers who deliver great lessons and who always go above and beyond to ensure that Burraneer Bay students are involved in a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities. Thank you to Mrs Nakkan, Mr Sheen, Miss Bouffler and Mr Beattie who took the Year 5 students to their overnight camp at Bathurst Goldfields this week. It was wonderful to hear all the students and the parents thank the teachers when they returned last night.

Kindergarten 2019 Orientation: Day 1

Kindergarten 2019 attended the first of their two Kinder Orientation Days on Tuesday October 30th.

80 very excited little people joined us in the hall for a concert and a fashion parade before heading off

to the Kindergarten classrooms to participate in their colour group activities. Next week they will

meet their Year 5 buddies. Many new parents commented on the behaviour of our current

kindergarten students. They were very settled as they entertained the audience with their

performance of “The Circle of Life from The Lion King”. Thank you to Mrs Takacs for organising the

orientation and to the staff who assisted her. Thank you also to the Year 6 and RFF staff and the Year

6 students who supported this wonderful school initiative by providing the Kindergarten 2018

students with a morning of buddy experiences. It was a morning of positives for everyone. The

feedback that we received summed up the morning:

“Thank you so very much. I just wanted to say how warm and welcoming today was. The

hall was buzzing with excitement. The orientation felt so welcoming and real. I loved

seeing and hearing “people” and watching the gorgeous kids perform and model the

school uniform, rather than just watching a slide show.”

Student Attendance

The School Liaison Officer visited our school last week to check student attendance. Thank you to all the families who have been using the SMS system to notify the school of student absences. Parents are

encouraged to send an SMS to the school – 0409594864 – before 9:00am to alert staff about a student

absence. The officer noted that a number of students often arrive late or depart early. Please ensure your child is on time for school. Students should be here by 9:05am, ready to go into class at 9:10am. All lunch orders should be given to the canteen before the bell.

SPOTLIGHTING: Year 5 Bathurst Excursion

Year 5 were very excited to head to Bathurst this week for their overnight camp. They were away for 3 days and two nights and had a wonderful time visiting the Three Sisters at Katoomba, the Jenolan Caves, Bathurst Goldmining Village and the Scenic Railway. Year 5 shared their highlights with us on the school's Facebook page. Such a great way for the parents to share this experience with them. A huge THANK YOU to Mrs Nakkan, Mr Sheen, Miss Bouffler and Mr Beattie for giving the students this fantastic opportunity.
