BURRANEER BAY PUBLIC SCHOOL NEWSLETTER TERM 4 – WEEK 2

A Message from our Principal, Ms Pantelis

A Great School

We have had an amazing start to the term. The students have been involved in the School Spectacular rehearsals, a Year 5 Leadership Day, the K-2 Sports Fun Day and Peer Support activities. Year 4 have been on an excursion to the Hyde Park Barracks and the Museum, Year 6 have participated in the Interrelate program –Moving into the Teen Years and 1P have enjoyed an excursion to the Sutherland Hospital. I am so proud to be the Principal of this great school. It provides the students with a wealth of varied and valuable learning opportunities in which to participate .

We were fortunate to have Xander in 6F as our Principal for the Day. He has written a report about his experience. I hope I still have a job! Today, I was the Principal for a Day. It was such a fun experience. Jack T and Jayden S were my “PA’s – Principal Assistants” for the day. One of my favourite things was getting hot cocoa that Ms Pantelis made us. It was the best I have ever had. Jack T enjoyed the day away from the classroom and having fun in the office. Jayden loved being out of the classroom all day. He thought he was going to do nothing but I made him write all my speeches. I did the daily announcements. I was nervous but Ms. Pantelis gave me a Hi -5 after I did them, so I must have been ok. I presented the Merits at assembly and I also gave out the Debating Awards. I got a little nervous but it was still fun. Jack and Jayden went around the school with me after lunch to do a survey. We surveyed some of the staff and asked them if they thought, “Year 6 should have NO home work”. Most of the staff we surveyed said YES. All I have to do now is get Ms Pantelis and the Year 6 teachers to agree! Xander S, Principal for a Day.

BURRANEER BAY PUBLIC SCHOOL NEWSLETTER TERM 4 – WEEK 2

2019 Class Placement and Structure

During Term 4, the school spends a lot of time planning the class structures, staffing and class allocations for the following year. We have started planning classes for 2018. When planning our classes, it is very important that we have accurate enrolment numbers.

Families who are not returning to BBPS in 2019 are asked to advise the school in writing as soon as possible.

Families who have a child or children who may not have enrolled to begin Kindergarten in 2019 are asked to contact the school office on 9523 4869 or email the school to let us know as soon as possible.

Families who are considering repetition are asked to contact the school office as soon as possible.

Many factors are considered when grouping children into classes for the next school year and it is never an easy task to get it right for every child. Besides the Department’s guidelines about the numbers in each class at different year levels, we also consider:

academic achievement levels

special needs & medical issues

relationships that should be split or continued (teacher/child, child/child)

behavioural issues or concerns

numbers of boys and girls in a class

teacher allocation.

If parents have particular concerns or issues about the placement of their child for next year, now is the time to let me know so that we can consider this information when forming classes. Coming to discuss a child’s placement next year once classes have been finalised is too late. We always attempt to do the very best we can for every child. Please remember that it is not always possible to meet all requests. It is not appropriate to make specific requests that involve other people’s children or for a particular teacher to teach your child’s class. By the end of Term 4 we will have tentative class structures developed, but as we need to confirm enrolments early in Term 1 2019, classes and teachers will not be announced until next year.

If you have any information regarding your child that you feel should be considered, please write to me Victoria Pantelis marked Confidential or email the school by Friday November 2nd. All requests will be treated confidentially and late requests cannot be taken into consideration. Once classes are formed I like to have them finalised with no changes unless in very exceptional circumstances. I appreciate your understanding that moving students does not often solve the issue and the level of disruption that this causes for all other classes across the grade or stage is best avoided.

When a child is sick… We do ask parents to please keep their child at home if their child is sick to try and prevent infections from spreading. Attached to this newsletter is an information sheet from the Department of Health regarding some infectious diseases of children. Thank you in anticipation of your support in this matter. _______________________________________________________________________________________

DEPUTY PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Kindergarten 2019 Orientation Kindergarten 2019 will attend the first of their two Kinder Orientation Days on Tuesday October 30th from 9:10 – 11:00am. Some very excited little people will join us in the hall for a concert and a fashion parade before heading off to the Kindergarten classrooms to participate in their colour group activities. In week 2, they will meet their Year 5 buddies. Many of the new parents who were involved in school tours last term, commented on the amazing behaviour of our current kindergarten students. Thank you to Mrs Takacs for organising the orientation and to the Kindergarten Staff who have assisted her. Thank you also to the staff and to the Year 6 students in 6N and 6T who will support this wonderful school initiative by providing the Kindergarten 2018 students with a morning of buddy experiences. It will be a morning of positives for everyone. Our second Kindergarten Orientation is on Tuesday November 6th.

Outstanding Payments

Please assist us by finalizing all outstanding accounts immediately. At Burraneer Bay, we pride ourselves on providing students with a wide range of quality teaching and learning programs and co-curricular experiences. Payments for sport, grade excursion levies, resource levies, dance and band are now overdue.

All outstanding fees need to be paid by Friday November 23, 2018.

Voluntary Contributions

Thank you to all the families who have already paid their voluntary contributions. We really appreciate your support.

All schools request a Voluntary Contribution from parents each year to supplement existing funding. Our school relies heavily on these contributions to provide additional resources and learning programs for all of our students. Your Voluntary Contribution is an essential part of our school’s budget. Contributions are used to update facilities and to purchase equipment and resources for the benefit of all students. In 2018, we are looking at upgrading our school oval. Voluntary Contributions can be made as a lump sum or in instalments by cheque, cash, online POP payment or Eftpos through the school office. The voluntary contribution in 2018 is $ 80 per single student or $140 per family with two or more children at the school.

Cook’s Community Classic Raffle Books Thank you to all the families who have returned their Cook Community Classic Raffle Books. We really appreciate your support of this wonderful initiative. The money raised will be used to help fund the upgrade of our school oval. We currently have 41 tickets of books that have not been returned. We ask that all tickets be returned to the school office immediately so that they can be sent off to Scott Morrison’s Office.
