Principal’s Report

Last week was a stressful week for the Cairnlea community with the

dumping of asbestos waste opposite the shopping centre.

The Department of Education immediately contacted the Environmental

Protection Agency concerning the school being so close to the site. The

EPA advised us that the health risk from the asbestos is negligible, as it is

contained in sheeting form and not easily airborne.

As a precaution the Department of Education immediately engaged a

hygienist to conduct air quality monitoring for asbestos from the closest

school point to the dumping site. This was completed on Wednesday of

last week with results coming in late on Thursday. The report confirmed

airborne asbestos fibres were below detectable levels and that the school

area is safe.

Taking advice from the Department, the playing area for children on the

oval was restricted to keep children well away from our Furlong Road and

Carmody Drive boundaries. Even though the authorities are telling the

school that we are safe, the Furlong Road Carmody Drive corner of the

school will continue to be out of bounds for all children.

I would like to thank the concerned parents who brought this problem to

our attention on Wednesday morning as we were not aware of any issues

when we arrived at school. There is comprehensive information on

asbestos also available online: asbestos.vic.gov.au or make contact with

the EPA.

Family Fun Day

Tomorrow is our annual Family Fun Day beginning at 12 noon and

available in every class room for children to apply before they go outside.

November is “It’s Not Great to Be Late” month…

Each day at CPPS we have a number of students arriving late to school, sometimes up to 30

minutes past the commencement time of 8.55! We acknowledge that getting children ready

for school can be a difficult task, parking around the school can be horrendous, and weather

plays a part, too. However, it is vitally important for your child to be at school before the

music starts each day so that they can be settled, make important social connections, be

organised for the day and feel relaxed.

Now that the weather is slowly improving, we ask that all families make a concerted effort in

November to arrive at school well before the starting time of 8.55am, so that your child can

play, feel organised, and be ready for the day ahead.

The grade with the fewest latecomers in the month of November will be rewarded with a

casual clothes day in December JUST FOR THEM!!!! Please help your child to be ready for

school by getting bags and uniforms organised the night before, parking away from the school

and walking the last little bit, and developing a sense of punctuality in all aspects of their life.

We look forward to seeing everyone at school on time!!!!!!

2017 ONLINE BOOKLIST ORDERING INFORMATION

This year Cairnlea Park Primary School will be offering the online ordering system for

payment of the 2017 student book packs and essential educational items, with our

stationery supplier Officemax.

Unfortunately, due to the Department of Education’s change in school’s funding, the

school cannot bear the cost of student book packs and essential educational items that

was offered in 2016, to parents who held a Healthcare or Pension card.

Therefore, ALL PARENTS will need to do online ordering for their child/ren’s 2017

book pack and essential educational items. We have managed however to keep the cost

down to $150 for book pack and essential educational items which includes class

materials, software and an incursion program.

Ordering can ONLY be made through the Officemax website. The online ordering

system is much easier for parents with your child/ren’s book pack delivered by Australia

Post to your home or nominated address. If you are not home, notification will be left by

Australia Post to pick up your parcel from the post office. Also there will be no

processing fee charged.

More detailed information of dates and procedure has been sent home to parents

as well as being posted on tiqbiz and in the newsletter. If you require any more

information please contact myself or the administration staff.

CANTEEN NEWS

FOREIGN, DAMAGED AND INCORRECT MONEY

The school canteen has had a large volume of lunch orders with foreign, damaged and

incorrect money. Foreign and damaged coins are not accepted by the coin counter at the

bank, so if your child has a lunch order with any of this money, or incorrect money, the

canteen will give your child a lunch order ONLY to the value of the correct money.

Unfortunately, because of the high volume of lunch orders that the canteen has to deal

with, it is not possible to contact students to choose something else, however they will be

given something similar to what they had ordered.

EMERGENCY LUNCHES There have been a number of emergency lunch orders given to students and the money

has not been paid back to the canteen. If your child has had or does have an emergency

lunch order, they will bring home a written order to say that they have received an

emergency lunch order and that $1 is owed to the canteen. Emergency lunch orders are

for unforseen situations not continual daily use.

We do hope this clears up any misunderstandings about the altered lunch orders that

your child may have received.

Thank you
