HIS LIFE: FIRST PERIOD

Giuseppe Balsamo, known as Cagliostro, was born in Palermo on June 2, 1743. He immediately became interested in science and was an Italian adventurer, alchemist and esoteric

HIS LIFE: middle period

Soon, thanks to his undoubted hypnotic powers, he obtained a celebrity that accompanied him in all European towns, he was successful and became friend of nobles, kings and scientists. In 1776, in London, he became affiliated with Freemasonry, founding a sect of "Egyptian rite."

HIS LIFE: LAST PERIOD

After a wandering life, spent in cheating in many countries and European courts, in 1791 he was arrested and taken to trial by the Catholic Church, to life imprisonment for heresy (he had tried to bring the cult of "Egyptian Rite" in Rome), confined in the fortress of San Leo. Here he died four years later in 1795.

THE ELIXIR OF LIFEThe best known elixir of Cagliostro was the Elixir of life, which at the end of the 1940s was still prepared in some pharmacies.
