IT STARTS AT THE “BE LOVE FARM”

Matthew and Terces Engelhart’s Be Love Farm is nestled among beautiful rolling hills in Pleasant Valley, California and is an extension of the Café Gratitude Sacred Commerce experiment. On 21 acres of organic farmland, Matthew and Terces Engelhart live in community with their farm workers and practice a sustainable lifestyle while growing food using the biodynamic method (as prescribed by Rudolph Steiner in 1924). On this rich alluvial soil, they grow fruits, nuts, vegetables, melons, greens, herbs, and citrus supplying Café Gratitude with an ever increasing supply of its food. Matthew and Terces are in the beginning stages of creating an apprenticeship program where participants live in community with each other while producing food in a mindful and sustainable way. Matthew and Terces also own and operate an organic farm in Maui, Hawaii. They are committed to inspiring an agrarian renaissance.

INCREDIBLY DELICIOUS AND HEALTHY FOODThe Café Gratitude brand is trusted to maintain the highest possible standards. Café Gratitude is a celebration of our abundant earth. The food at Café Gratitude starts with 100% organic ingredients. This commitment is something to which Café Gratitude is steadfastly loyal and has also pioneered. No other restaurant we know of, is committed to 100% organic, all the time, no substitutions. Our commitment is to sustainability, and to serve the freshest and most delicious seasonal food available.

The menu at Café Gratitude is revolutionary. It is 100% vegan and much of it is live cuisine. In 2004, Café Gratitude transformed live food and brought it to the main stream of San Francisco and soon

-ers to desserts, Café Gratitude prepares simple,

ingredients in a labor intensive process to create dishes that appeal to a broad customer base. In addition to the menu’s originality, Café Gratitude has continually prepared food that tastes great and is inviting and appealing to even the largest skeptics of vegan and live cuisine. The majority of the Café Gratitude customers are not

meals that are unique in the industry. Every food item at Café Gratitude is prepared fresh and by hand every day. Café Gratitude has

A BRIGHT GREEN COMPANYCafé Gratitude celebrates the recent popular-ity of the Green Movement and acknowledges its own pioneering contribution since its incep-tion in early 2004. Café Gratitude’s commit-ment to sustainability means not only recycling and composting, but additionally growing much of its own produce. Café Gratitude pioneered the use of an “unbleached” cloth napkin and has inspired other restaurants to do the same.

Café Gratitude chooses to work in partnership with local vendors, customers, and the commu-nity in making choices in support of a healthier environment. Plastic containers & water bottles have been eliminated from its retail store and Café Gratitude often requests that new ven-dors repackage their products in cellophane, or glass just for its cafes. But that’s just a start. Here’s just a short list of environmental com-mitments to which Café Gratitude subscribes:

"I spend a lot of time on the road and eat in

a lot of restaurants, but every time I return

to San Francisco I go to Café Gratitude to

recharge - not just on the amazing food, but

also on the energy of the staff and the prac-

tice of abundance that Matthew and Terces

bring to everything they do. They have af-

fected my life in a profound way!"
