A history of growth Cache Creek Casino Resort Even the most visionary members of the Rumsey Band of Win- tun Indians in Northern California probably could not have foreseen the astounding success they would later achieve when they were approached in the mid 1980s with the idea of hosting a bingo game. The small tribe liked the idea, and on June 25, 1985, they and their new partners opened a modest Bingo Hall on their Rancheria in Brooks, California, a tiny enclave in the beautiful Capay Valley that sits 50 miles northwest of Sacramento and 90 miles northeast of the Bay Area. Their fledgling bingo business was an immediate hit. By 1990, they were operating the Bingo Hall on their own, but more room was needed to accommodate a growing legion of visi- tors — a situation this tribe would encounter repeatedly. The first expansion, which included the addition of card games, was com- pleted on Oct. 7, 1993. “By October 11 or 12 of that year, we knew we needed to build more space,” longtime Cache Creek Casino General Manager Randy Takemoto said. “People just can’t seem to get enough of the type of entertainment we offer.” The second expansion began in 1996, and was opened in phases in 1998 and 1999. The Bingo Hall was expanded to seat 1,200, and three new restaurants sprang up, including the signature China Camp eatery and a 150-seat buffet. The State Gaming Compact was signed by the governor of California in 1999, and paved the way for the addition of slot machines in August of 2000. Players flocked to the 1,762 slot machines and 80 table games to make Cache Creek the most popular casino in Northern California. Annual payroll for their 1,500 staff members swelled to $38.4 million. Despite 126,000 square feet of space, Cache Creek Indian Bingo & Casino still grappled with the “good problem” of often having more cus- tomers than it could comfortably house. On June 15, 2002, bold plans were announced to build Cache Creek Casino Resort, a $200 million property double the size of their adjacent existing facility, introducing a 200-room hotel, health spa, a 1,883-space multi-story parking garage, eight new restaurants, a 600-seat entertain- ment venue, 20,000-square-foot multi-use Event Center to host bingo, concerts and more, and an 18-hole championship golf course. Construction broke ground on Cache Creek Casino Resort on Oct. 16, 2002. Expanded casino floor space of 74,720 square feet at Cache Creek Casino Resort now houses 2,600 slot machines, as well as 150 table games. Restaurants offer cuisines from around the world including Kung Fu Fat’s, ancestral successor to the ever-popular China Camp, the elegant C² presenting prime steaks and fresh seafood; Loco Caliente, specializing in Mexican dishes; the boutique, 11-stool Asian Kitchen; the 400-seat Har- vest Buffet, 24-hour casual dining in Canyon Cafe, The Deli and Sweets, Etc. Over 2,400 employees are now needed to serve guests at Cache Creek Casino Resort. “People just can’t seem to get enough of the type of entertainment we offer.” General Manager Randy Takemoto
