Malaysias Barisan Nasional wins parliamentary election
The National Front coalition or Barisan Nasional (BN) led byPrime Minister Najib Razak triumphed in Malaysias generalparliamentary election on 05 May 2013. On 7 May According to the humanitarian organization Save theChildren charity in an annual report entitled State of the WorldsMothers ,India tops the list of babies that die on the day they areborn.India has the dubious distinction of recording the mostfirst-day deaths of children.Every year, 3,09,000 children die on
the day they are born in India. It accounts for 29% of all the first-day deaths globally, the highest for any country.India is followedon this grim list by Nigeria (89,700 deaths, or 9 percent);Pakistan (59,800, or 6 percent); China (50,600, or 5 percent); andDemocratic Republic of Congo (48,400, or 5 percent).

On 15 May The U.N. General Assembly approved an Arab-backedresolution calling for a political transition in Syria andcondemning President Bashar al-Assad Government for itsincreasing use of heavy weapons. A majority of 107 states votedto adopt the resolution. There were 12 votes against and 59
abstentions.Russia was fiercely opposed to the resolution, termedit as unbalanced and inadequate to address adequately atrocitiesallegedly committed by rebel groups.The resolution was draftedby Arab states who have supported the rebels.India abstainedfrom voting on the non-binding resolution on Syria.Pakistanvoted in favour of the resolution.

India China Signed 8 Agreements
On 20 May India and Chine signed eight important agreementscovering a wide range of issues like trade, culture and waterresources. The agreements were finalised after delegation-leveltalks between Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh andChinese counterpart Le Keqiang.
The list of eight agreements/memoranda of undrstanding(MoUs):-
(i) Protocol between Indias external affairs ministry and Chinasforeign affairs ministry on Indian Official Pilgrimage (the KailashMansoarovar Yatra) to the Tibet Autonomous Region of China.
(ii) Work Programmes of the Three Working Groups under JointEconomic Group (JEG) between Indias commerce and industryministry and Chinas commerce ministry.
(iii) MoU on Buffalo meat, fishery products and Agreement onfeed and feed ingredients between Indiss Agricultural andProcessed Food Products Export Development Authority and TheMarine Products Export Development Authority and ExportInspection Council and Chinas General Administration of QualitySupervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ).
(iv) MoU between Indias urban development ministry and ChinasNational Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) oncooperation in sewage treatment.
(v) MoU between Indias water resources ministry and NDRC on
cooperation in water-efficient irrigation.
(vi) MoU between the external affairs ministry and Chinas StateAdministration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television(SAPPRFT) on cooperation in mutual translation and publicationof works, both classic and contemporary.

On 22 May The U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee has approved amassive immigration reform bill that grants 11 millionundocumented immigrants currently living in the country anearned path to citizenship.The legislation was passed by a vote of13 to 5 with three Republicans joining 10 Democrats to approveit.The bill, which requires major advances in border security andexpansion of a comprehensive e-verify system for employersbefore any undocumented worker is allowed to pursuecitizenship, will need 60 votes to pass the 100-seat Senate.
