-CHAPTER THREE-

A Scarlet Wedding

Belle, well be late for the wedding! Are you awake? yelledTom from downstairs, causing Drew to fall off the bed and hit thefloor.

Are you alright? asked Belle, leaning off the bed to look downat him, she slid off too, and sat on the floor with him.

Fine now that youre here. she kissed him. I should go as well.Candy and Aden will murder me, if Im late, youll be next - can Isee, what youll be wearing? he asked her curiously.

Why?

I want to have a vividly good picture, while Im away.

Just ask Ashley. she smiled, placing a pillow between them.

It wont be the same. he moaned.

Drew. she creased her brow.

Belle, are you awake? repeated Tom.Go. she commanded him.

Drew kissed her, and left through the window.

It was the fifteenth of February, and also a wedding date, fortheir close friends: Candice Scarlet and Aden Ferrell, who was

Jasmines hot, older brother.

Candy had short black hair and Ayden had brown hair and wasa head taller than her.

This god-made couple was destined to be together, but little did

they know of an uninvited gatecrasher who would wreck thisnight, and everything they had

What was the point of living for eternity, if you had no reason tolive for?

Belle, and Jasmine were the bridesmaids, and Sarah was theflower girl, who would be behind them, when walking down theaisle.

Today Belle would witness a marriage of a vampire and demon.The first pair in history. Since a vampire and daemon never reallymade it this far, to get married. History would be written on thisnight. Normally the Elders would send out merciless, murdererson the tails of the couple, and they would not make another day.

But since this certain couple had bent the rules, and helped the

Tylers, rebel against the Elders, who were in hiding, and had nointention of surfacing any time soon - well - unless they had adeadly scheme up their robes.

Every now and then, Drew often had fantasies about him, andBelle, living as vampires; they spent each and every moment witheach other in their everlasting life.

His life - was no longer an eternal hell and purgatory, but a blissful heaven, where his soul remained intact, and he had anenchanting angel by his side. They had a small daughter namedRosy, after her pink cheeks, she was a sweet little cherub, and shewas as beautiful, as her mother was.

Drewd have one of those times, when he would fall asleep.

Although that only happened, whenever was close by to Belle,physically, or sleeping with extreme silence. When he did manage

to sleep, his fantasies would become horrible nightmares fromwhich he had no return.

The Elders would steal his perfect child from him, and train her

to become an Elder.

Drew and Belle were to be punished for disobeying their rules,and murdering the others.

Then they would take Belle away from him too, Leanbowtortured, and caressed her in front of him, he then skinned her, bit by bit, and she would never discontinue screaming.

Drew was helpless, he was dying himself as he was forced towatch, forced to endure, he was struggling to be free of the stronggravity, pulling him down.

Then hed chant,

Hells not really that bad, not when you get to keep an Angel.



At twelve oclock, it was hectic. The phone were constantlyringing, phone call, after phone call. Belle, Tom and Lauren left forthe wedding, half an hour later.

It had taken them thirty four minutes exactly to get there.

Belle was carrying her clothes in her bag. Candice needed helpwith her dress, since Ashley would only have time to work on herhair, and Nikki would deal with the makeup.

As they arrived at the Hall of Compromises, they saw the inside

of the hall. The tables had already been set, each with a differentnumber.

Belle had walked past the arch of balloons, and over to theanxious Helena,

Where is she? she asked. Angela rushed to the dcor, and she

started to order the men to move the furniture, where she wantedit.

Stephaniell take you. Helena whimpered, then she let out ahorrified gasp, and, she rushed to the nearest waiter.

Everyone was under pressure, and Belle agreed not evenvampires could take the weight of a last minute wedding.

Hey Belle.Stephanie was standing behind her. She was wearing a violent

shade of scarlet, and a creamy white corsage around her waist.

Come on. Stephanie took Belles hand, and ran upstairs, wherethey found Ashley.

Okay. Curls, or straights? she asked hyperventilating.

Curls. jinxed Stephanie, and Belle.Okay. Come on! she pulled at them, they staggered into the

room, where Candice was sitting.

I need this wedding to be perfect - no mistakes - picture perfect- do you understand me? I have scouts coming.

Ashley was freaking out - terribly. This was the first time, Bellehad seen this side of Ashley, and it wasnt pretty. Candice seemedto be the opposite to Ashley, for once Candices cheeks had colourin them, however green wasnt the desired colour. Candices eyeswere half closed as she allowed for Ashley to fuss over her Bellerealised she was more than probably reading someone like Esmeor Claudines mind just to make sure her wedding wasabsolutely perfect.

Belle walked into another large room, she found the whitedress, and brought it over, into the first room.

Ashley had already started on her hair.

Alright - no black eyeliner, I mean it. Nikki focused hard, asshe brushed the brush on the powder.

Should she not wear the dress, before all the makeup andhair? asked Jasmine, coming into the room and picking up the bouquet of purple tulips that Aden chose.

Took the words right out of my mouth. smiled Belle, as Jasmine turned to hug her.

Hows your brother? Belle asked.

Fine - a little fiddly but you know -? Can I help? she asked.

Yes.

Candice came out of the small room, in her dress.

It was a simple, white dress, not too pretty-pretty, but perfect,white buttons lacing up the back, almost like a corsage, but not asslutty, a simple sequin pattern leading up to the straps, and downto the train, but it was so simple that you could only notice itwhen the light bounced off of them, throwing little rainbows inthe light.

Ashley started to curl Candys hair again; Nikki started the brushing, and then applied the powder on Candys pale whiteskin, to make it look more alive, darker and pinker.

There was a rapping knock on the door.

Arent you ready yet? it was Jasons impatient voice.

Nearly fin- started Belle, and then Nikki snapped at the person behind the door.

I swear Jase if you dont get lost in five seconds I shall not beheld responsible, she yelled. Alright, Candy, you can look.

Belle and Nikki, had pulled the large mirror in front of her, themirror was nearly her size.

O my goodness - is that me? Candy gasped, her fingers lightly

dancing over the sequined patterns, as she took in her reflection.

Better hope not, because shes running late for her wedding.Stephanie said, pulling on her own elbow length off white gloves.

Come on! said the guy, behind the door edgily.

Jason, get - away - from - the - door, and help your brotherswith the groom. ordered Helenas voice; she opened the door,

and smiled;Oh Candy, sweetheart, you look lovely. But youll miss your

own wedding if your maids dont hurry up.

Candy smiled, and said, were done, Mum, we were justleaving. her voice was sweet, and melodious, but with a slighttint of hysteria waiting to bubble up to the surface.

As they came downstairs they waited at the closed doors, untilthe entrance from the piano, tuned by Drew was played.

They heard the music, and the doors opened, the sun was faint,and the sudden light blinded them slightly.

Here comes the bride was played, Belle looked around to thepiano, but Drew wasnt there.

She, and Jasmine, took the trays of petals, and threw them ontothe red carpet, once the bride had swept pass.

Carlisle Scarlet - who was wearing a black tuxedo and bow -took Candys outstretched elbow, and walked her down the aisle.

Aden and Candy were a brilliant couple, when they met on theend.

Candice looked up into Adens dark brown eyes, and felt her breath catch in her throat as if she was about to cry. She neverunderstood why people cried at weddings, but now she realised

that, starting from the second Aden said the two words after her,she would be his forever.

Mrs. Candice Alyson Ferrell. Forever his. Never anyone elses.That was enough to make her faint, but Adens eyes held her toher feet. He was smiling as Candice managed to choke out an;

I do,

And do you Aden Jay Ferrell take Candice Scarlet to be yourwife. Do you promise to love and cherish her for as long as you both shall live? came the vicars voice from a long, long way awayin Candices head; she only had ears for Adens next two words.

Aden smiled and looked down at Candice and said,

I d -

Aden didnt even get to finish saying, I do. because a sudden

flash of silver broke into his body a bullet had soared right passedCandices left ear, and hit Aden squarely on the chest, leaving himcrumpled on the floor.

Candys face was a dreadful picture:

A picture of a widowed bride and a mixture of the feelings ofpain, despair, hatred, and fear turned on her blocking all otheremotions from passing through.

Almost immediately after the bullet escaped, Van Helsing wasup on his feet, firing an arrow, from his large black crossbow ontothe ceiling onto the roof.

Belle was stuck into a dilemma, both good causes; go upstairs,assist as much as she could, find out who Adens murderer was, orstay with Candy and Jasmine, to cry over Adens body too.

Candice took a small step backwards, but her eyes never leftAden.

He couldnt be dead, he couldnt be dead, she chanted inside

her head, Any moment now Aden will pop up and hell laughand tell us it was a joke, a joke that him, Oliver and Jason planned,and after I finished killing him for messing around on ourwedding day, we would carry on our lives together, I would be hiswife and wed buy our own house and go on our lovely andromantic Fiji honeymoon planned. . . and have a forever-and-ever-together and have the worlds happiest happy ending.

She didnt let her think about what would happen if he wasactually dead . . . She was as good as dead to. She would be.

The guests had stood up off their chairs, Jasmine, and Belle ranup the aisle to Candy, who had collapsed onto the floor, rocking backwards, and forwards.

Candy, Candy its alright. cried Jasmine, then she said; Hecant be dead, hes probably just - Aden? Aden, knock it off! Iswear to god you have to get up now or I will kick your butt fromhere till next year, I mean it! she frowned angrily. She slappedhim, but he would not stir. His face was slack, the brightness of histan was already beginning to fade replaced by a yellow waxycolour.

Listen, Ill evacuate the guests, theres a murderer up there, onthat roof-, Van Helsing gestured his head towards the building,he had thrown the arrow to.

Ely and Claudine had started to yell at the guest to evacuate.

Candys painful hurt was replaced by furious anger. It wasapparent that Aden wasnt getting up. But the rage clouded in hermind, didnt allow her to think clearly - didnt allow her to think

at all.

Belle looked at the building; they were running up the stairs.Belle followed after them.

Ill be back. Jasmine gasped.

Candy was left alone, she wouldnt stay here, too look at himany longer while he was still playing dead, she needed to findAdens prankster, the one who was in on the joke the one whowas playing a big game with her heart.

Upstairs, she could faintly hear the thoughts, but then

nothing, she had done the one thing she had never been able todo, block them out completely. Not even a whisper escaped thewall she had built around them.

When she was up the stairs she saw a male, pinned to the wall.He was wearing a black mask and a white top with black jeans.Where the arrow penetrated his shoulder (which had helped, keephim pinned) there was a circle of red blood, however the man

wasnt moaning in pain.He wasnt even slumped down in unconsciousness. He didnt

even move away when Carlisle pulled the mask off of his face, orwhen he ripped the arrow out of his shoulder and allowed him tostand.

Owen? they all gasped, and then they heard distant footsteps;Candy ran rapidly to Owen, her face was a furious red.

When Owen stood up, and looked around the room he sawCandice. She was still wearing her wedding dress; her hair wassticking up in clumps, where she had run her hand through.

Her makeup was smudged from where she had rubbed hereyes, for a tear to leak.

You! she bellowed, she ran forwards and slapped him, with so

much force, that if youd listen hard, youd hear the bones in hisneck crack.

Nice to see you to. he muttered, rubbing his neck.

You are meant to be dead bastard. she said, no louder than asilent whisper.

Im sorry to disappoint, I really am - but Im a living bas -Owen had not finished his words, just as Aden never got to finishhis, she had slapped him across the face again, and this time, theslap was harder, and it echoed throughout the roof. He started tosmile.

Candices voice was close to hysteria when she screamed,

Youre smiling. YOURE SMILING! Youve just annihilated theone man Ive ever loved, and youre smiling? she punched himagain.

Candice Scarlet was not the gentle flower, everybody thoughtshe was - well everybody, who didnt know her, that is. Her sweetand tender self, disappeared as sure as the sun would set.

The Vampiric monster nesting in her insides, erupted and all

her force, anger, and hard structure rested in that punch, wasslapped onto him - it was surprising that Owen made no cry ofpain, he couldnt be that good at resisting pain, because, if he was,Candy would need all the help, she could get.

Owen looked none to shocked when she slapped him again, butcomposed himself and sighed,

Candy-he began, but her hysteria bubbled up and a loudscream blanked his following words.DON'T YOU DARE SAY MY NAME. You don't have the right toeven think it after what youve done. You should die... youshould...you should... her voice faltered and halted to a suddenstop.You look beautiful Candy. Truly beautiful.

She slapped him again. Harder than the last two,

DONT CHANGE THE SUBJECT! What. The. Hell - is yourproblem? You didnt even let me get married, let alone have awedding night. Not even a proper honeymoon. None of that.

She acted to hurt him again, to cause all the pain and hurt shehad on him, just as he had put on her.

When she went to punch him this time, Jasmine was behind herand she clasped her hand around Candys fist and said quietly,

Candy, calm down. she patted Candys shoulder reassuringly,and Candy exhaled, then Jasmine added in a rasp Its my turn.

She punched Owen, and then added to Candy.How many did you do?

Candy seemed incapable of talking, so she just held up fourfingers and took a few steps back.

Jasmine stepped forward and punched Owen so hard that she broke his nose. He didnt wince; she raised another hand, andstopped it in mid-air, when he called out to her, in his defence.

Remember - member - when - when you told me. You wantedto get rid of him-? You admitted it; you wanted to be free of him.

Jazz seemed momentarily speechless, and then she spoke up,

Yeah. I wanted rid of him - for a day - for a shopping trip. Notfor the rest of my bloody life. She continued her punch.

He took a short step back and said defiantly,

You should have made your meanings clearer than, shouldntyou?

Dont! You! Dare! Blame! Me! Every time she screamed a word,she hit him.

That was more than four! he yelled.

Bastards that come back from hell, to kill my brother dont havea choice! she scorned, scathingly, punching him again. Her insides

Carlisle stepped forward,

Candy, Jasmine - but before he could finish, Ashley cameinside the room and hit Owen, with her handbag, that weighedmore than it cost and that was saying something.

That was for killing the groom, and crashing my perfectlyplanned wedding. You evil, son of a - Ashley started, pursing herlips, and her hair turned the same shade as Stephanies ruby dress.

Jasmine, Candy and Ashley - calm down. Please?Carlisle sighed calmly. Ashleys hair faded into a blue, as she

took in a deep breath too, well admittedly more than one deep breath it was more like seven.

Owen - Carlisle sighed.

- how the bloody hell are you alive? Jasons bewildered voicecame from above.

Carlisle looked impatient now - nobody would let him finish hissentences.

Sorry. Jason shrugged, he landed onto the ground.

Owen. Carlisle looked around, for anyone to dare interrupt.As Jason said, how are you alive?

Well after I was violently murdered - started Owen, with ahuge sigh.

Being a bit melodramatic arent we? It wasnt that violent. Jasescowled, raising his eyebrow.

He thinks that was violent? Just he wait- mumbled Candice biting down on her lip.

Bottom line - Lucifer ambushed me, and Quincy turned me into

a vampy-daemon thing, and Calumn gave me another life. Dudeto you know they have viles of Vampire venom seriously.

Much better. Jason, and Oliver smiled at one and other.

The Trinity? The three Princes of Darkness? You met the effingTrinity? Why would the Trinity be interested in evil scum likeyou?

How? What? Huh??? You - are - youre - youre - youre a partdaemon - she swallowed. Oh brilliant - I hate what I am evenmore now. Jasmine gasped, she frowned, and looked ill.

I kind of already guessed you were immortal. Oliver musedup at the sky.

How? Owen, raised an eyebrow, but Oliver let Jason answer, because he was still looking up at the sky.

Dude, an arrow dug through your shoulder - you got hit - Ithink twelve or thirteen times, all of them, by flipping vampiregirls, with metal fists - but youre acting like its no big deal. Jason

looked at him.

Oh? Oh. Ouch, ow, er it hurts - help me. Owen said, with noenthusiasm.

You suck at this sort of thing. Jason sneered.

Youre definitely not a full vamp - coz you wouldve been alittle more stronger, and youd of been able to rip the arrow out,

and do a runner. Brandon added.Everyone looked up, and thats when they noticed that Candice

wasnt there. They looked around the roof.

Carlisle instructed that Belle, Ashley, Drew and Jasmine were towatch Owen, while he went to go and get Candy. Then he strictlyadded to: Ashley and Jasmine, not to harm Owen any further.

After everyone left, Drew looked down, from the edge of theroof, Ashley was fighting herself to keep her hair blue. Jasminefidgeted, wandering where Candy had disappeared to.

Belle looked at Owen, and he smiled at her.

Hey hottie, youre new. And man - you smell really good.

Drew made a move, but Belle held his hand, to hold him off, heplaced his hand on her waist, and glared down at Owen in fulldisgust, as he read his mind.

Jasmine reached for her back pocket, and pulled out a small

knife. If you say one more word, Ill be forced to use this littlesharp stick, and cut your limbs off.

Hey, look - I didnt know that you guys were - Owen talked toDrew mostly. I mean - smell her. he added to Jasmine andAshley, Sweet.

Owen mustve thought or said something pretty thoughtless, tomake Drew react the way he did, because he threw Owen onto the

wall, holding the door to the stairs downstairs.

Dont you even think - Drew hurtled the arrow, Carlisle rippedout of Owen, and kept him in place. - about doing that. Pinned tothe wall, Owen let out a sigh. If Owen managed to rip it out, hewould be able to do a runner.

One more disgusting thought about Belle, and I swear , nothingwill stop me from personally ripping you apart, by literally doingwhat they did in the olden days. Hung, drawn, and quartered!

Drews hand tightened around Belles waist, as he asked her togo downstairs. Belle, go downstairs, I dont want him anywherenear you.

Carlisle was sitting on the steps.

Belle, I was just waiting for you. he sighed.

Then why didnt he come and get her? She was just behind him.

I was concentrating my powers, when I left, figuring out a wayto find Candy. See, I need your help, Belle. Ive just been to see her,and she wont listen to anyone. Shes talking to Aden, as if he was

alive, and just sleeping.Belle frowned, and abruptly she felt Candy and Jasmines pain.

She bit her lip.

I should go. See if shes alright.

Upstairs they heard another loud thud, and smash of bricks.

Owens purposely using insolent thoughts, to wind him up. he

frowned, looking up.Owens always been a bit of a badass, dont let him get to

you though. Jason grinned, coming down behind her. New girl,new scent. Kind of like the first day of school again. he smiled.

They heard another thud, a louder one.

Dont worry, Ill calm Drew down. he smiled, placing Bellesmind at rest.

Thank you. she whispered.

Belle turned and started to walk down the stairs with a heavy-heart.

The worst thing that could have happened to Candy hadalready happened, losing the person that took her so long to findand except and the worst part was: Belle didnt know how shewould take it.

As she came downstairs she saw, Candices white weddingdress splayed out around her as she knelt by Adens head.

As Belle got closer she heard Candy whispering into the ear ofAdens cold dead body.

I was so worried, when I was walking down the aisle to meet

you. I couldve sworn, Id have fallen down, but I guess I was just

lucky... Later on we should go and view some houses. I want onesomewhere in London or main Cardiff, but I know how much youhate main cities. So maybe we could come to a fair compromise?

Maybe we could get a house in the sun, but that would sting. OrAmerica? Yes. The Tylers would like that wouldnt they?

She sighed, Especially, Belle and Ashley. You, Drew, and Jasoncould talk cars while Belle, Ash, me and Nikki shop, using yourcredit card she persisted on, while Belle just stood there, notknowing what to do. Oliver came behind her, and stood by herside, he weakly smiled at Belle, he made no sound, and then he

tried to walk over to where Candy was kneeling, however, whenCandy heard him take a hesitant step forward, she flew into aprotective crouch over Adens body.

Oliver took a step backwards; he gave an uneasy shrug to Belle,and then headed back to find Jasper, who could always calm herdown.

Jasper could inform her, ease her head, by saying everything

was fine and dandy - but then again - both Oliver and Jasper,would know that was a pack of lies.

Belle took a deep breath.

Candy. she breathed, but she didnt move.

Oh. Candy smiled, rubbing her face. Hiya Belle. I was justtalking to Aden, and weve decided to buy a house in America.

Near you guys. L.A to be exact, one of the beach houses.Belle tried to smile, but a tear had leaked out instead.

No Belle, please dont. Thats the only thing I want from you. Athing I know I cant have. Dont make me envy you. she begged,churlishly.

Candy - Im so sorry - Belle shook her head.

Candy was beginning to think, she was a calamitous accident.Belle had no way of helping her. No one did.

When Oliver had talked to Jasper, and explained the situation,he acted instantly, and ran to find her.

Candice. Jasper whispered, through Belle, who sighed in relief,she wiped her tear.

Jasper made a move forward and Candy ran somewhere.

Belle, I need your help - youre the only person she talks to,without worrying about what they think, she doesnt know soshe tells you everything. He half laughed and half sighed at Belles

expression and said, Candice never tells everyone everything , thats just Candy. Even though we are close, I don't know her the wayeveryone thinks I do.

Belle found that weird, whenever you thought of Candice youalways thought of her secret keeper jasper the one who knewvirtually everything there was to know about Candice.

But how am I supposed to act? This side of Candy scares

me.Belle asked Jasper, she replayed the picture of Candices heart- broken face in her memory again, and felt like she was about to burst into tears Jasper pulled her out of her revere by saying -

I dont blame you. To be honest - it scares me too.

I dont know what to do. Belle admitted.

Come with me. We have to stop Candy from doing anythingsilly, witless, stupid, or reckless.

Belle smiled- her face felt odd masklike, alongside Jasper, asthe pair of them walked towards the haunting and silent house.

And there Candy was, sitting down on her bed, with a glassystare in her eyes.

Yo, Candz, are you alright? Jasper smiled, trying to act asthough everything was okay.

Candy inhaled, and then exhaled, with a beam.

Fine. Really. she lied. Im er just gunna - go to erm - Imhungry - Im gunna go hunt. Alone. she added, when Jasper hadopened his mouth, to suggest her go with her.

Not feeling like any tofu. she smiled, and left the room withunnatural grace.

I hate it, when she knows what Im gunna say. You reallyshould give me some tips. he added to Belle.

Im not sure, how I do it, Jas, sorry.

Candy was still watching them.

Jasper looked at her and sighed.

Candy, you need something to jar your thoughts. Its too muchfor one person to handle.

Im not a person, Im a monster. Im unlucky, everything I turnto love, leaves me.

Hey, you still have your family and friends. He said, trying tocomfort her.Yeah what will happen to you then? The first person I ever kindof loved was Owen and is now technically dead, a daemonhandpicked from a evil circle in hell by three exceptionallypowerful people, who have a kind of obsession for me , to ruin mywedding and kill my fiance see not even my husband. I guess

he just had the worlds luckiest escape didnt he? Jasper only allowed the shock to show on his face for half asecond, Candice was finding ways to beat herself up, she was soangry and didnt know how to cope with it all, so she found iteasier to blame herself, which if she kept doing would eventuallykill her. Jasper thought the best way to deal with it was to make the angerescape by doing what Candice does all the time when she ispissed at something, beat the crap out of a punch bag Hey

Candy, want to join us tonight, weve got a new punch bag? hetried to make her smile, but she only responded with a weak grin, but her mind was elsewhere, in a dreamy reverie of torture plots

she had in store for Adens murderer. Jasper looked at Belle, for assistance.

Candy please, just listen to us. We have to get you out of theseclothes, and - and we need to find out, who wanted Aden dead.

There is no one behind this. All this was Owen, he killed Aden,to get his revenge for me dragging him into this mess and killinghim and turning him into a monster, and now Ill get mine. Hesimmortal, so hell have to die the way an immortal dies. We tearhim apart, and burn him. Or get his soul sucked out. Preferablythe most painful. I wonder what one that is? she thought out loud

Candy, I wont bother explaining, because you know what Imthinking, you in denial is stupid, and immature.

Alright, Im stupid and immature. You happy now?

Not particularly.

Candy stop this. Belle pleaded.

Belle, you really let me down, and youre supposed to be my best mate. she said, creating her own chagrin.

I am, but -

Belle, Im thirsty - so - bye. Jasper, dont follow me I want to bealone. She laughed, it sounded more like crying but Jasper lookedand there were no fresh tears burning in her eyes, I suppose thatwill be okay I mean its not like a have a husband who willworry about what I am doing out all night is it?

DenialDear diary,

why?March

The atmosphere surrounding the overcrowded black andwhite kitchen was tense. Mainly because a recent widow wasin denial, and the slightest thing could shut her down anddestroy what was left of her already broken and fragile soul.

What do you want for dinner? She acted like theywerent even there.Candy flinched slightly, slipping out of her statue pose, when Jasmine walked in, Jasmines eyes were all red and puffy and

holding and allowed it to shatter into a thousand tiny piecesacross the black and white tiled floor, her movements werecontrolled as she turned slowly to face Jasmine, and her eyeswent even blacker and she bared her white fangs when sheglared at Jasmine, her voice was a snarl as she replied.That subject is closed, was all she said, her face became aperfect mask, the fangs sunk back into her normal teeth andher eyes glazed over. But in her mind, that was herway of keeping them from harm like him. Jasmine couldnt control the sudden burst of anger thatswept through her, when she was how calm Candice waswhen she mentioned Adens funeral, it was as if she didn't

care -Don't you care? Didnt you love him at all? almost as soon

as the words were out of her mouth, she freaked out, Jasminenew that Candice loved Aden, and like her, it probably tookher all the strength to stop her screaming at the top of herlungs.Candices perfect mask of lack of emotion on her face becameshattered.You think I didnt love him. and grabbed Candices hand and whispered, Just becauseAden is dead doesnt mean you have to die as well.

Candice just looked balefully up at Jasmine and said, Whosays Im not already dead? then threw the remains of theglass into the bin and left the room through the window, withno goodbye, no explanation to where shed be going, leavingnothing behind her but a flickering shadow in the night.

*MayIt was safe to say the house was certainly quieter withoutCandice there, yet people began to notice the silences, whatwould have never been there if Candice was there to fill thequiet. She always found ways to make people laugh, or shedfill the silence with the cluttering of pots and pans orsenseless laughter from herself that no one could fathom, butnow night became an annoying silence hanging over themall, apart from Belle who had the blissful escape of sleep.Belle, Drew and Jason were all staying with the Scarlets untilBelle was sure that Candice was okay. And because Belle

wouldnt leave neither would Drew, and Jason just stayed because he could and he wanted to be with Oliver (becauseOliver and Stephanie had hit another rocky patch in theirrelationship).It had been exactly three weeks since Adens funeral and Jasper was sitting in his room staring into space, listening tothe steady heartbeat of Belles heart in the room next door to

him, when he heard a smash of glass below, in the dining

room.It was only him, Belle and Drew in the house, and Jaspercould tell from the steady beat of her heart that Belle was still

asleep, and Drew wouldnt leave Belle if she was in anyremote chance of danger, so he wouldnt leave her now ifthere was an intruder. Jasper silently moved around his door, and down the stairswith deadly grace, he first looked into the dining room andsaw the smashed window, but saw no intruder. He went toturn around when he heard the fridge door open; he guessed

that it was the intruder because all the others, apart fromhimself (obviously) Drew and Belle, had gone hunting someanimals in the east. Jasper cautiously opened the kitchen door to see theintruder, leaning in the fridge, the light illuminating her back, but keeping her face hidden while they was rummagingaround, looking for something in the very back. Jasper, without a sound, slipped into the kitchen and was behind the intruder - ready to attack, when he lunged, tograb the trespasser by the waist and pull it down, so he couldfind out who it was. However right at the last minute, thegatecrasher to the house moved away from the fridge, closingthe door, making Jasper crash into the metal fridge door, thecollision made a deafening thumping noise, which Jasperknew woke Belle up by her sudden accelerated heartbeat.The intruder stood over Jasper and hit him around the headwith a metal spoon and said, Jasper, you idiot what are youdoing? in a loud tinkering voice that sounded a lot like...Candy! Jasper gasped, while she helped him to his feet.No! You dont say? she said, her voice dripped in sarcasm,(as usual), who else did you think Id be, coming in andgetting mint-choc-chip ice cream at midnight seeing as I am

the only one in this family that eats it?She pulled herself up onto the kitchen counter like she haddone so many times before and stabbed the frozen, rock hard

mint chocolate ice-cream with such force, that the small metalspoon plummeted through the ice-cream right through to the bottom of the pot, cracking the plastic at the bottom. Jasper just stared at her, taking it all in that his little sisterwas back, when they heard Belle run down the stairs, andalthough they couldnt hear him, that Drew was following.OMG! Candice, what are you doing back here? gushed

Belle, when she stood in the doorway, then she ran forwardand squeezed Candys ice cold granite skin.

The kitchen was tense while both Drew and Jasper stoodfrozen, not sure how Candice would react being so close to ahuman, not knowing what she had been doing for the pasttwo months or so.

Candice shot the pair if them a dirty look over Bellesshoulder, as she hugged Belle back completely at ease. Whenthey pulled away, Candice jumped back on the kitchensurface and tapped the space next to her gesturing for Belle tosit down, she was still shooting dirty looks at Drew and Jasper, when she spoke her voice was a snarl.

You think I would hurt belle? she said her eyes narrowing,

a dangerous sign, I have been away for about five sixweeks tops, and yet you think I could hurt family? shesnorted delicately.
