This Week in Alabama History Week of Nov. 10 – 16 November 12-13, 1833: In a spectacle seen across the Southeast, a fantastic meteor shower causes this night to be known as “the night stars fell on Alabama.” The shower created such great excitement across the state that it became a part of Alabama folklore and for years was used to date events. A century later it inspired a song and book, and in 2002 the state put the phrase "Stars Fell on Alabama" on its license plates. Provided by the Alabama Dept. of Archives and History Hailey Ryan Sandlin and Robert Lawrence Brudi of Birmingham were mar- ried June 8, 6 p.m. at The Cathedral Church of the Advent in Birmingham, Alabama. Reverand Canon Craig Smalley officiated. The bride is the daughter of the late Mr. And Mrs. Nicholas Owen Sandlin of Moulton, AL. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Marie Sandlin and the late Mr. Owen D. Sandlin and Mr. and Mrs. James W. Byers, all of Moulton, AL. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Arnold Brudi of Birmingham, AL. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Michael W. Davis, Sr. of Birmingham and the late Mrs. Inga Carlina Lundborg and Mr. Harold Carwil Brudi of Fairhope, AL. The bride, given in marriage by her grandmother, chose a Lasaro Perez Creation. The gown is designed of ivory silk organza which was sprinkled with crystal centered satin rosettes and an ivory embroi- dered floral motif. The fitted gown boasted of a delicate scalloped rucheing below the waist and flared mid-thigh to floor. The bride chose the matching cathedral-length veil which was also adorned with crystal centered satin rosettes and ivory embroidered floral motif. She carried a bouquet of assorted flowers in red, embellished with a glass lock- et that contained a piece of lace taken from her mother’s wedding veil. Serving as matron of honor was Nichla Clark Phillips, of Pensacola, FL. Serving as honorary brides- maids were Heather Byford Clark of Hartselle, AL; Mary Grace Shuster of Nashville, TN; Margaret Lee Shuster of Brentwood, TN.
