Why TC?Tecumseh is pleased to announce the availability of the TC, a high efficiency compressor designed specifically for light commercial refrigeration applications. The TC series is “Best-in-Class” with respect to performance, energy efficiency and physical size.
The TC series compressor meets two (2) important market needs: First, it is optimized for use with eco-friendly refrigerants R600a (isobutene) and R290 (propane) and secondly, the expanded L/MBP and M/HBP operating range allows standardized use across beverage cooler and freezer applications.
Introduction
Product StrategyThe TC Series compressor is designed for LBP, L/MBP and M/HBP applications. Compressor models are
available for use with refrigerants R600a (isobutene), R290 (propane) in capacities ranging from 300 to 1,500
Btu/h (for LBP and L/MBP) and from 2,000 to 4,000 Btu/h (for M/HBP).
Tecumseh launched the AE2 series compressor with an expanded M/HBP operating range in 2010 with the objective of replacing all Legacy AE compressor models. Our competitors reacted quickly and introduced a smaller light commercial compressor that provided a lower applied cost at the lower end of the AE2 capacity range. Based on the new competitive landscape Tecumseh developed the TC series compressor. As a secondary benefit, the TC will allow us to phase-out the TP, TS and TH series compressors that are used in light commercial refrigeration applications.
Based on the above market overview and to finally attend complete phase-out of TP, TS and TH families, we are now presenting the TC compressor.

What is the same?• The name Tecumseh carries significant brand awareness.
• Tecumseh has an extensive and well-positioned network of authorized wholesalers.
• Tecumseh has a large OEM installed product base, for replacement opportunity.
• The TC is similar to the TA version 1, in terms of mounting footprint, tube position and physical size.
• The TC standard product line will use the same configuration for OEM’s, Condensing Units and Replacement compressors facilitating ease of change out on new applications.
• Tecumseh is recognized for its strong technical support, which was further enhanced with the launch of Tecumseh University in the USA in the Fall of 2012; Tecumseh do Brasil plant will launch Tecumseh University by 2016.
• The TC series compressor will utilize the same OEM and Wholesale Warranty and related warranty return process as the AE2 series compressor
• Our plan is for the TC to have the same Safety Agency Approvals (i.e., UL, VDE, SGS, IRAM and etc.) as the AE². series compressor
What is different?In order to improve our competitive position, robustness and reliability, the following elements have been addressed with the TC:
• POE oil, with viscosity of 32cSt (may use 10cSt on LBP and L/MBP application, depending on the cooling capacity and refrigerant gas);
• Increased bearing, crankshaft and cylinder bore diameters (from 14 mm to 16 mm / 0.55 in to 0.63 in);
• Changed bearing system from axial trust washer & ball bearing to axial sliding bearing;
• Changed suspension system to support higher starting torque;
• Changes have been made to various production and assembly processes, insuring TC product quality, performance and reliability is maintained.
• A new motor design has been applied, resulting in a shorter stack height and higher efficiency.

EfficiencyAs the world demand for energy continues to increase, compressor and system efficiency will remain as the primary market driver. TC family has a range of model positioning as premium in the market with efficiency up to 6.1 Btu/Wh EER (or 1.78 COP). Depending on the model and refrigerant, the TC compressor is up to 19% better in efficiency in comparison to the AE2 and TP series compressors.
SizeThe overall size of the compressor is an important requirement for light commercial refrigeration equipment manufacturers as it allows them to devote more space for refrigerated goods. In general, the TC compressor is up to 15% shorter in height vs. comparable AE2 and TP compressor models. Another point to mention is that the average weight of the TC series compressor is 8.5 kg (18.7 lbs).

Sample Order• Providing customers with sample test compressor is considered as a STAGE in the Sales Opportunity funnel. For
this reason, no customer sample requests will be processed until such time that the corresponding sales opportunity is entered in CRM (Customer Relationship Management).
• The quantity of sample test compressors and the corresponding price per compressor will be determined by sales management on a case by case basis.
• Sample requests greater than three (3) per compressor model or an overall quantity of ten (10) sample test compressors per customer will require management review and approval.

Compressors with PTCSCR motor:The motors have a PTC starting device and a run capacitor. Their functioning is similar to the PSC motor. These compressors have a normal starting torque.
Compressors with PTCCSR motor:The motor operation is similar to the CSR motor, except for the potential relay, which is replacedby the PTC device.

The complete voltage range will be available by 2Q 2016.
3. What is the cost difference between the TC and the other series?
Due to the smaller size when comparing with other series (TC is up to 25% lighter), TC compressors shows advantages in material usage (if comparing products with similar characteristics). For more information, please ask for cost study comparisson.
4. What refrigerant gases are compatible with the planned TC compressor models?
The TC series will be compatible with R134a, R600a and R290.
5. Where will the TC series compressor be manufactured?
The TC series compressor will be manufactured at Tecumseh Brazil.
6. What Safety Certifications will the TC have?
The TC series will be certified by U.L. (USA), VDE (Germany), SGS (Brazil) and IRAM (Argentina). Additional certifications will be considered based on demand.
7. Is it possible to invert the use of the suction and process tubes when installing the TC compressor?
Yes, it is possible to interchange the tubes, but it may cause some inconveniences, such as:
• Loss of efficiency;• Increased noise;
8. Is it possible to use TC compressor in applications where liquid return is expected?
No, in the case where some liquid is already expected to return, due to the specific application, the customer must never use TC compressors without prior approval from Tecumseh Engineering.
