1978 / 1983 – 3 year National Diploma in Metallurgical Engineering (Witwatersrand Technical College, known today as University of Johannesburg, South Africa).

I felt the need to broaden my knowledge in quality, management and accountancy

and enrolled for short courses:

1984 - A pass on the subject Quality Assurance (Production Management Institute,

South Africa).

1985 - A pass on 4 subjects of the Accountancy Diploma (South Africa).

WORK EXPERIENCE:

July to December 1974 - 6 months as a high school teacher (Mozambique).

January to December 1975 - 1 year as a telecommunications trainee technician (South Africa).

1976 / 1978 - 3 years as an inspector of the quality department of Haggie Steel

Ropes (South Africa).

1979 / 1982 - 4 years as a trainee metallurgist in the process control department of Haggie Steel Ropes.

1983 - 1 year as a metallurgical engineer of the process control department (Haggie Steel Ropes).

1984/8 – 5 years as quality control manager of the non ferrous foundry, rolling and

extrusion Mckechnie Brothers (South Africa).

1988/94 – 6 years, as a Manager of the technical / quality department of Companhia Portuguesa de Trefilaria (Wire drawing).

May 1994 / 2008 – 14 years as a Supervisor and Technical Manager of the ISQ

mechanical and concrete laboratories in Lisbon, carrying out testing of materials at ambient, low and high temperatures (tensile, impact, fracture, bending, fatigue,

creep). Carried out replica and metallographic evaluations for the power, construction, petrochemical and oil and gas sectors during maintenance shut downs.

Also measurement of residual stresses by x ray diffraction methods in welds and

metals.

October 2008 / June 2009 – Technical Sales engineer for the company Tecrane (Sales of high torque hydraulic tools to the oil and gas sector).

April 2010 / January 2011 – Manager of the metallurgical laboratory of Exova (Bodycote), Muscat, Oman offering technical services (replica, metallography and

destructive testing to the petrochemical and oil and gas sector).

2011 / Present – Technical Manager and Deputy Quality Manager at present, but also carried out the function of Quality Manager when first joined the metallurgical

laboratory of EADS-IS Doha, Qatar, offering technical services (replica and destructive testing to the petrochemical and oil and gas sector).

RESPONSIBILITIES (Exova, EADS-IS Middle East):

Management of metallurgical laboratory and to keep the library standards and specifications up to date.

To ensure that the mechanical and metallurgical tests are carried out and the respective reports produced.

To plan, organize and supervise all metallographic replica activities to be carried out

on site. To interpret replica results and produce the relevant reports.

To ensure that all equipment used in inspection and testing is calibrated.

To ensure all samples are received be it for testing, be it equipments or consumables.

To maintain up to date the laboratory Quality System / EN ISO 17025.

To elaborate and revise the laboratory technical procedures.

To ensure that all administrative and commercial activities related to customers (market research, customer enquiries, contract review, order acceptance, invoicing,

tracking payments and debts, etc) are carried out.

RESPONSIBILITIES AT TECRANE (Lisbon, Portugal):

To keep and maintain the actual scope of national clients and to carry out market

research in order to bring in new ones.

To carry out direct sales of the product to the customers and to track performance of product sold.

To attend to complaints and technical needs of the customers in order to keep them

satisfied.

To monitor customer payments and debts.

RESPONSIBILITIES ISQ – Welding and Quality Institute (Lisbon, Portugal):

Management of 2 laboratories with 5 technicians (mechanical and concrete

laboratory).

To keep the library standards and specifications up-to-date.

To carry out the mechanical, metallographic and residual stress tests and to produce

the respective reports (replica, metallography, tensile, bend, fracture, charpy, fatigue, creep tests using optical microscopes, Instron, Mayes and X ray diffraction

equipment).

To ensure that all equipment used in inspection and testing is calibrated.

To receive all samples for testing, equipments and consumables.

To install and maintain up-to-date the laboratory Quality System / EN ISO 17025.

To elaborate and revise the laboratory technical procedures.

To carry out all administrative and commercial activities related to customers (market research, customer enquiries, contract review, order acceptance, invoicing, tracking

payments and debts, etc).

To participate in European project work and to act as an inspector in national and overseas contracts (Tagus Bridge, metro rail, rail welding certifications).

To carry out internal technical and quality audits to other laboratories of ISQ.

To participate in the inspection on site of power plant, petrochemical components and

to install data acquisition systems (power plants, expo 98, bridges, cement plants).

RESPONSIBILITIES AT THE COMPANHIA PORTUGUESA DE TREFILARIA (Steel Wire drawing) Lisbon, Portugal:

To install and maintain a Quality Assurance System (ISO 9000 / 9001 /9002).

To produce and maintain the specifications used in the manufacture of the company

products.

To calculate and define the industrial costs of all products manufactured.

To carry out failure analysis, metallurgical investigations and process development.

To design and develop new technologies, prototypes and products.
