Pearl Harbor Memorial At noon on December 1, 2019, the Cincinnati Chapter of the Sons of the
American Revolution (CCSAR) joined members of the Chambers Hartman Budde
American Legion Post 534, the Hamilton County Sheriffs Pipes & Drums, The
Losantiville Highlanders and several other Veterans groups for the 65th Ceremony
to remember the attack on Pearl Harbor and honor the 2,403 citizens of the United
States who were killed in the Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on
December 7, 1941. The Day that President Roosevelt said on national radio would
“live in Infamy.”
The parade from River Road is short in length, but very long on spirit with 100
people attending. Supported by the drums and bagpipers playing the themes of
United States military units and solemn ceremony to the awaiting barge provided by
the Anderson Ferry. Once the vessel is loaded it is powered out on to the Ohio River
where a bugler on the barge mirrors a bugler on the shore with a spine tingling
rendition of Taps. Following was a proper military prayer and presentation led by
the American Legion Post 534 and a rifle salute.
Finally, about 15 bio-friendly wreaths were placed on to the water accompanied
by two Coast Guard buglers playing echo Taps, mimicking the ritual one would see
on December 7th at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Silence followed, marked only by the
straining engine of the tugboat slowly returning the 70 plus attendees back to shore.
The ceremony was a reverent and fitting remembrance for those who fought
suffered and even died, so we would remain free.
God Bless America!

Flag Retirement Ceremony In the morning at 10 AM on December 1, 2019 7 members of the Cincinnati Chapter of the Sons
of the American Revolution (CCSAR) joined the Chambers Hautman Budde American Legion Post
534 at their lodge on 4818 River Road for our annual Flag Retirement Ceremony.
After all units were brought to Attention and “Present Arms” declared, the musket unit fired three
volleys with their flintlocks to set off the actual incineration. A proper and honorable end for our
National Colors!
American Legion Color Guard members joined their Safety team at the burn pit site, along with the
CCSAR Nolan Carson Memorial Color Guard and its 6 member Musket Unit. The Post 534
Commander confirmed readiness of the Flag Retirement Burn Team and requested the verbal
assurance that each of the flags to be retired met their service requirements.
A Prayer followed with homage to all those who’ve flown these banners and hope for the
replacements to be properly honored.

You have been a most active chapter—easily the most active in our State Society and very
likely throughout the National Society as well. And while these claims are easily proven or
defended, we still realize that our own, chapter & individual, significance is not derived by
what we do or how successful we are.
Our task is to be the voice of our ancestral patriots in proclaiming their contributions to
our society and culture of today. We each hearken to the world view and values held by our
patriot ancestors. A world view based upon principles founded in classical education and
biblical perspectives that continue to call to us though the portals of time.
Our task is to keep their significance and influence in our lives in the forefront of
activities, ceremonies and event planning in such a manner that it is always about them—
never about us! Any rewards or significance that may accrue to us will be enjoyed when we
are with them in eternity!
I know some of you may be thinking that I’ve fallen over the edge—but I also know that
many of you agree with this perspective—and that is probably why we are effective in our
initiatives and campaigns.
Looking Forward To Next Year!
A fraternal and civic society composed of lineal descendants of the men who wintered at Valley Forge, signed the Declaration of Independence, foughtin the battles of the American Revolution, served in the Continental Congress, or otherwise supported the cause of American Independence.

As we will hold our Annual BOM Meeting this Wednes-
day Evening, It’s really kind of hard to believe that another
year has almost passed into history—but there it is!
We all enjoy looking forward with anticipation to the
coming year with its seasons of activity, the events that we
plan and execute, the fellowship with other chapters and the
joint activities with the DAR & CAR. Yet, we find a cer-
tain satisfaction in recalling recently past events also. It is
hard to forget last year’s Annual Chapter Awards Gala at the
University Club, the Annual Youth Awards event at the
Cincinnati Woman’s Club, the Cookout at the Ohio Vet-
eran’s Home, those wonderfully Hot & Humid parades on
Memorial Day and Independence Day in May and July and
the many Grave Markings and Memorial Services we
orchestrated or participated in locally and in more distant
venues.
Merry Christmas to One and All

On October 7, 1986 at our Board of Management Meeting, the Board voted to award the
“Heroism Medal”, posthumously, to Neerja Bhanot, a brave and heroic stewardess on
Pan-American Flight 73 which was hijacked in Karachi, Pakistan on September 5, 1986.
She sacrificed her life to save others. Her story is one of valor, courage, kindness, and
determination in a life and death high pressure situation. Dr. Shekar Mitra's life was
saved when Miss Bhanot pushed him through an exit door to safety and paid with her
life. Dr. Mitra would share his experiences at the Thanksgiving Day Dinner with a
speech “An Experience with Terror.” and volunteered to present the medal to Neejra’s
family in Bombay, India. His speech was advertised as a first hand experience of this
insidious creeping threat in today’s times. Dr. Mitra, a naturalized U.S. citizen, was a
research scientist for Procter and Gamble in Cincinnati, Ohio. You can read more on
her and the hijacking at:http://sillyconfusion.com/the-story-of-neerja-bhanot/

His perspective is curious in that many today believe him to have been one of the least godly
of the founding fathers!
Benjamin Franklin – Constitutional Convention, June 28, 1787“
…how has it happened, Sir, that we have not hitherto once thought of humbly appealing to the
Father of lights to illuminate our understandings?
In the beginning of the contest with Great Britain, when we were sensible to danger, we had
daily prayers in this room for Divine protection. Our prayers, Sir, were heard and they were
graciously answered… And have we now forgotten that powerful friend? Or do we imagine that
we no longer need his assistance?
I have lived, Sir, a long time, and the longer I live the more convincing proofs I see of this
truth – that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without
his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without his aid? We have been assured, Sir, in the
sacred writings that ‘except the Lord build the House, they labor in vain that build it.’ I firmly
believe this; and I also believe that without his concurring aid we shall succeed in this political
building no better, that the Builders of Babel…
We shall be divided by our little partial local interests; our projects will be confounded, and
we ourselves shall become a reproach and bye word down to future ages…I therefore beg leave
to move – that henceforth prayers imploring the assistance of Heaven, and its blessings on our
deliberations, be held in this Assembly every morning before we proceed to business…”
“In the name of God, Amen.
For the glory of God, and advancement of the Christian faith…"
On June 28, 1787, the convention was at daggers drawn on the
question of representation (the big states/small states controversy)
when Benjamin Franklin suddenly injected a passionate homily on the
efficacy of prayer and proposed daily exhortations from local
clergymen.

Dr. Peter Lillback's exhaustive fifteen years of re-
search set’s George Washington's Sacred Fire apart
from all previous works Washington’s faith. It pre-
sents a man driven by the highest of ideals using
Washington's own writings, journals, letters, manu-
scripts, and those of his closest family and confidants
to reveal the truth of this awe-inspiring role model for
all generations. Dr. Lillback convincingly shows how
when faced with unprecedented challenges and cir-
cumstances, Washington ultimately drew upon his
persistent qualities of character - honesty, justice,
equity, perseverence, piety, forgiveness, humility, and
servant leadership, to become one of the most revered
figures in world history. George Washington set the
cornerstone for what would become one of the most
prosperous, free nations in the history of civilization.
