A Message from Nurse Jensen
Coronoavirus is best prevented by taking the following precautions just like you would do for influ-
enza which is another virus:
Wash your hands often and properly. That means using soap and water and rubbing your
hands together for the length of time it takes you to sing "Happy Birthday" through 2 times. The
acronym, FROG, should be remembered: Friction Rubs Out Germs - so rub those hands together
as you wash them.
Keep your unwashed hands away from your eyes, nose and mouth. Many illnesses get into
the body through one of these 3 areas. It is best not to touch these areas at all, if possible.
Be sure to always cover your mouth when you sneeze or cough with a tissue which is thrown
away or into the crook of your arm - and then wash your hands.
Keep away from people who are sick.
Just as a reminder...
District policy states that students who have a temperature of 100 degrees or greater need to
go/stay home and stay home until the temperature is below 100 degrees for at least 24 hours. This is
a good policy for staff, too.
Masks are not to be worn at school. They do not really help with disease prevention, and are best
worn by those who are infected; if a person is infected, they should not be at school.
Hoping we can all stay as healthy as possible. Please contact the nurse if you have any questions.

English Eighth grade
Our With one week remaining before the Eighth Grade SOL Writing test, our students are ex-
tremely focused on mastering their individualized focused instructional assignments and applying these
to their assigned essays. The students have been given each writing prompt throughout the past months
to compose thesis statements and complete a brainstorming activity to help them in the prewriting pro-
cess. As always, please remember the VDOE Direct Writing Prompts are available on their website as
are the SOL Practice Test Items for your students to continue their studies in preparation for the upcom-
ing SOL Writing Multiple Choice Exam and The Direct Writing Prompt Essay Examination on March
10th and 12th . Flexible grouping will continue to take place in the library for the next week and will
provide a new perspective on rules of punctuation and grammar components. Classroom teachers will
also include enrichment activities as well as direct applications of these skills within the revision and ed-
iting steps in a student’s sample essay. Again, thank you for all your assistance at home in preparing
your student to rise to his or her academic challenges each day. The English teachers greatly appreciate
it!
Below are some tips to help with the writing process.
“Tell me, I forget. Show me, I remember.
Involve me, I understand.”

benefits of learning a foreign language
are increased job opportunities, improved
memory, and it is sometimes required or
preferred in universities and colleges.
This week students will participate in ac-
tivities that will reinforce the importance
of knowing a foreign language.
