STOP AND LOOK AROUND THE ROOM….
With your shoulder partner, discuss your observations you have made about your surroundings?
Then, answer the following green questions….What’s the mood of the classroom?
What predictions can you make about today’s lesson and how it relates to reading and writing?

TO ME, YOUR TEACHER, READING AND WRITING IS LIKE BAKING A CAKE!
It’s what you put in it and how you mix it up the ingredients (story elements) that makes
the cake (or story) good ! The structure may be different but the end result (main idea) is still a cake (or story). Some are better than others!!!!!
Do you get it?
Baking a cake is like telling a story. You have to use certain kinds of ingredients to make a good one!
![Page 6: C-E-L-E-B-R-A-T-E ! lyrics/celebrategoodtimeslyrics.html.](https://reader034.fdocuments.in/reader034/viewer/2022051622/56649cf75503460f949c6f10/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
= story elements
Cake pans = text structure (looks different, it may taste different, but it is still a cake!)
It’s a celebration = themeBaking a cake = main idea

CONCEPT 2: STORY ELEMENTSIn your learning log….. 1. What is a story? An account of incidents or events
2. What are elements? The things that are naturally suited for something
3. Now that you know what a story is and what elements are, define story elements in your own words.
Story elements are the things that are naturally suited for ALL stories. The basic elements are plot, character, setting, and theme.
The plot usually revolves around a problem or conflict that is presented at the beginning of the story and resolved at the end. The ability to identify the elements of a story aids in comprehension, leads to a deeper understanding and appreciation of stories, and helps students learn to write stories of their own.
