CONGRATULATIONS!

In addition to praying this Novena Rosary prior to each daily Mass, we will be praying it before the 7:00 am Sunday Mass in an effort to continue it each day. Please feel free to join us in praying for our country during this turbulent election year. Thank you!

October 2, 2016 Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time

Mercy Night in this Jubilee Year of Mercy

Have you forgotten that Pope Francis has declared an Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy, which will be ending Nov 20, 2016? Have you made it a point to both receive and be an instrument of God’s mercy this year? This is a gentle reminder that God’s mercy is waiting to be outpoured in a special way upon us and through us, and He is inviting you and I to take full advantage of His many blessings this year.

“Here, then, is the reason for the Jubilee: because this is the time for mercy. It is the favorable time to heal wounds, a time not to be weary of meeting all those who are waiting to see and to touch with their hands the signs of the closeness of God, a time to offer everyone, everyone, the way of forgiveness and reconciliation. May the Mother of God open our eyes, so that we may comprehend the task to which we have been called; and may she obtain for us the grace to experience this Jubilee of Mercy as faithful and fruitful witnesses of Christ.” - Pope Francis

If you haven’t already done so, you are encouraged to make a pilgrimage to either St. Simon & Jude Cathedral or Chapel of the Holy Cross in Sedona to walk through the Holy Doors. Through this pilgrimage, anyone who goes to confession, walks through the doors in a state of grace, and says specific prayers for the Holy Father, will receive a plenary indulgence. In addition to the person’s sins being forgiven, the temporal punishment for his or her sins will be remitted.

There is another opportunity here at Corpus Christi to enter into this Year of Mercy. Join us for Mercy Night, Friday, October 7th, at which the Franciscan Friars of the Holy Spirit will be here to preach, hear confessions, inspire a renewal of heart, and help us encounter the Mercy of God in a new and deeper way.

Nevertheless, this Year of Mercy should include more than us going to confession and receiving God’s Mercy more frequently. (Reminder: Confessions are available Tuesdays at 5pm, Thursdays at 7pm, Saturdays at 2:30pm, and by appointment). We should also be ministers of God’s mercy to others more readily. Thus, I ask you to consider if God is calling you to make steps to reconcile with someone, or if there is someone with whom you have some sort of division or separation. Open your heart in prayer and ask God to show you what you are called to do to at least begin to heal that relationship.

Pope Francis emphasizes the need for the Church and all her members to live out the loving mercy that God has for us. Our response to God's loving mercy towards us is to return that same mercy to all those we meet. The Holy Father reminds us that “Mercy is the very foundation of the Church's life. All of her pastoral activity should be caught up in the tenderness she makes present to believers; nothing in her preaching and in her witness to the world can be lacking in mercy. The Church's very credibility is seen in how she shows merciful and compassionate love.” As members of the Body of Christ, our lives should reflect this witness of mercy to those we meet on a daily basis. May this Year of Mercy be one of true growth in ourselves, in our families, and all our relationships.

The Jubilee Year of Mercy Dec.8, 2015 -Nov. 20, 2016

O my God! Most Blessed Trinity, I desire to love you and make you loved, to work for the glory of Holy Church by saving souls on earth and liberating those suffering in

purgatory. I desire to accomplish your will perfectly and to reach the degree of glory you have prepared for me in your Kingdom. I desire, in a word, to be a saint, but I feel my helplessness and I beg you — O my God! — to be yourself my sanctity!

Since you loved me so much as to give me your only Son as my Savior, the infinite treasures of his merits are mine. I offer them to you with gladness, begging you to look on me only through the face of Jesus and his heart burning with love.

I offer you, too, all the merits of the saints, their acts of love, and those of the holy angels. Finally, I offer you — O Blessed Trinity! — the love and merits of the Blessed Virgin, my dear Mother. It is to her I abandon my offering, begging her to present it to you. Her divine Son told us in the days of his mortal life: “Whatsoever you ask the Father in my name he will give it to you!” I am certain, then, that you will grant my desires; I know — O my God! — that the more you want to give, the more you make us desire. I feel in my heart immense desires and it is with confidence I ask you to come and take possession of my soul.

PART THREE OF FOUR - The good works we do are informed by our four core principles. The THIRD is:

Fraternity – The Venerable Michael J. McGivney founded the Knights of Columbus, in large part, to provide assistance to the widows and children left behind when the family breadwinner died – often prematurely. The Order’s top-rated insurance program continues to do this today, as do individual Knights, who last year gave more than 10 million hours of their time to assist sick and/or disabled members and their families. In the Knights of Columbus, we watch out for and take care of one another.

KNIGHT OF THE MONTH HONORS Citing numerous activities in which the honoree has been involved, plus his election as Faithful Navigator, Grand Knight Dave Rak-Kinonen named Sir Knight Bill Drummey as September’s Knight of the Month. Congratulations Bill!

FAMILY OF THE MONTH HONORS Sir Kevin and Marsha Casey have a long record of parish and community contributions. The latest project — the mats woven from plastic bags to aid the homeless — is just the most recent project for which recognition is due. Well done, Marsha and Kevin! Congratulations!

COUNCIL MEETING IS THURSDAY, OCT. 6TH

Knights of Columbus should attend their council meetings; the instructions are very clear during the First Degree ceremonial. Yet, we know many cannot attend every meeting because of a variety of reasons: age, employment, health, etc.

However, every Knight should try to attend as many meetings as possible. Need a ride? Let Grand Knight Dave Rak-Kinonen know (480-496-4411 or [email protected]).

Our principles of Unity and Fraternity are important philosophies in our brotherhood. We want all of you to feel a part of our unique Order founded by a priest for the benefit of the entire family. Vivat Jesus!

what we were obliged to do.”

What does it mean to be a registered parishioner? How do I register? All Catholics living within the Parish and regularly participating in the liturgy are invited to register in the Parish. Church attendance alone does NOT make you and your family registered members. Registration is required for Baptism, First Communion, First Reconciliation, Confirmation, Marriage and Catholic Education programs.

Adult children, 18+, need to be registered separately from their parents in order to get mar r ied, have their own children baptized, or be Godparents or Sponsors.

Also, in order to be a Godparent or Sponsor or receive discounted tuition rates at Catholic Schools, one must be a registered Catholic and active in the parish, which is indicated by use of contribution envelopes or the Online Giving program.

You can register by coming to the Parish Office and filling out a short registration form. The registration form can also be downloaded from our parish website.

How do I have my child Baptized? Before scheduling the date, please call the Office for a welcoming conversation with the priest. Preparation classes are also required for parents prior to the child’s Baptism and are offered once a month.

How do I request a Communion Call or Anointing of the Sick? Please call the parish office at 480-893-8770 DO NOT WAIT until someone is near death to have the person anointed! Although Anointing of the Sick was once known as “Last Rites,” waiting until a person is near death could risk that person not being able to receive the Sacrament if he or she should pass away prior to the priest being able to arrive. Anointing of the Sick can only be administered while the person is still alive.

How do I get married in the Church? The Diocese of Phoenix requires a NINE MONTH marriage preparation process. John Deg, Director of Married Life Ministries, will meet with you to explain the process, including when you will meet with the Pastor to set a date. Do NOT set the date prior to this meeting as it cannot be guaranteed until then.
