What is TED?

TED stands for TechnologyEntertainmentDesign

TED started out in 1984 as a conference bringing together people from those three worlds.

TEDTalks share what happens at TED with the world through their online website at www.ted.com

Their motto (座右銘 ) is “Ideas worth spreading”

Millions of people now visit their website to listen to some of the most interesting people in the world talk about what is important to them.

Where are the TedTalks held, and who speaks at these things?

TEDTalks were originally held in California, but they are now held all around the world.

What’s the point?

You can learn about almost anything you’re interested by looking through the TED website. They have a really great variety of speakers from almost every field, giving very interesting information.

TED has been called “YouTube for smart people”.

TED is also a social networking website, where people can get together and discuss interesting topics, write comments to the lectures, and even help to subtitle the lectures into other languages.

Extra features

For many videos, you can use subtitles, and even view the transcript (謄本 ) of the talk.

If the talk has been translated, you can select the subtitles and view the words on the right of the screen.

You Try

TED also collects talks given by famous people in other places besides their conferences.

Find the Steve Jobs speech called: “How to live before you die”

This video doesn’t have a transcript, but it does have subtitles which you can turn on.
