INTRODUCTION

With my passion of trying to learn chain maille I wanted to show and share it to everyone who’s a chain maille enthusiast like me. With this tutorial you'll learn 2 chain

maille patterns that you can combine and make exciting chain maille jewelries.

The pendants are created with the Helm Pattern where I created a Flower Helm. You can use it as earrings, charms and pendants while the necklace itself is created using

Byzantine Pattern than you can turn into bracelets, and necklaces, and many other ways to use it.

MATERIALS AND TOOLS NEEDED:

Materials Needed

20ga 5mm diameter jump rings in 2 colors (red and silver) 20ga 3mm diameter jump rings in 2 colors (red and silver) 8/0 silver beads 1 crab clasp

Tools Needed

2 Flat/chain nose pliers

STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS

FLOWER HELM CHAIN MAILLE

STEP 1:

Link 5 x 5mm red jump rings using 2 x 3mm jump rings. This will be your base helm.

STEP 2:

Open up a 5mm silver jump ring and slide in 2 x 8/0 seed beads. Prepare 5 of these and they will be your beaded jump rings. Set aside.

STEP 3:

We're going to trap your beaded jump rings. Take 2 beaded jump rings (shown in silver circle with blue beads on the sides) and place it on top of the 3mm with one bead falling on each side. Open another 5mm red jump ring (shown in brown circle) and attach onto the 3mm shown in arrows. You would notice that the beaded jump rings are trapped by the base helm and the new jump ring

STEP 4:

Repeat the trapping step until you have 1 base red jump ring on your left and 1 beaded silver jump ring on your right.

Note: While you trap the beaded jump rings make sure that the beads will fall on the sides.

STEP 5:

Now we're going to make base helm and the beaded jump rings meet. Carefully form your jump rings into a circle. Open the base helm jump ring from your left and attach onto the 3mm on your right.

STEP 6:

Trap your last 2 beaded silver jump rings. Open another 5mm red jump ring (shown in brown circle) and attach onto the 3mm shown in arrows.

STEP 7:

Attach 2 x 3mm jump rings then set aside.

BYZANTINE WEAVE NECKLACE

STEP 8:

Using 3mm jump rings link 2 red, 2 silver and 2 red rings. Use a paper clip so the rings are easy to handle and won't get tangled with each other..

STEP 9:

Let the last 2 red rings fall on the side and pull the silver rings.

STEP 10:

Then let the silver rings fall on the side and pull the 2 red outer rings.

STEP 11:

After pulling the 2 red outer rings attach 2 silver rings

Pull the silver rings and you'll see the rings starts to create a pattern.

STEP 12:

Continue to attach 2 red and 2 silver rings

STEP 13:

Let the 2 silver rings fall on the side and pull the red rings.

STEP 14:

Then let the 2 red rings fall on the side and gather the silver rings.

STEP 15:

Similar to what you did on Step 10, take the 2 silver outer rings and attach 2 red rings. Pull the last 2 red rings you just attached and you'll see your first set of Byzantine Pattern.

STEP 16:

Then attach 1 x 5mm red jump ring onto the last 2 red rings.

At a closer look this is how 1 set of 3mm diameter Byzantine Weave should look like.

After every set of Byzantine Weave you attach 1 x 5mm red jump ring

STEP 17

Continue linking your Byzantine Weave until you reach your desired length and at the end, simply attach your clasp.

STEP 18:

Attach your Flower Helm.

Arrange the Flower Helm however you want them. You're done!

maker. Jewelry making wasn’t really a hobby of mine, but unforeseen events lead

me to learn jewellery making. My family put up a craft store where we sell cross

stitch, beads and all sorts of crafting materials. I fell in love with the beads and tried

to create accessories only for myself. Clients liked the pieces and I started

customizing handmade jewelleries. The craft store was a success for 6 years, but

like any other small businesses we had to close it down and I was confined to

staying at home. While at home I had all the time using the internet and now

working as a Virtual Assistant, where I blog, teach jewelry making and given the
