Keeping Your Vent Pipes ClearA heating system has a vent to get rid of the

poisonous air that is made during combustion. When blocked, the hazardous gas may enter your home.

Some individual vents may be located only approximately 1-2 ft off the ground.

During a Vermont winter, a vent located so close to the ground will often become blocked with snow.

Holiday SafetyAccording to the USFA, Christmas trees will cause

an estimated 200 fires this year alone resulting in 6 deaths, 25 injuries and 6 million dollars in damages.

When selecting a Christmas tree, be sure to pick a fresh tree. To determine freshness, the needles should be green and hard to pull back from the branches.

Be careful not to place your tree near a heat source, as it will dry out the tree more quickly increasing the chance for fire.
