They were three wonderful NRCers, and thg news of t'nis horrible accident cast a heavy pall on our Convention th&t year, you may be sure. We donl t want to see anything like this happen again, so lads, ple~se use every kind of road caution to make sure of your safety . The Labor Day waelreiid will see loads of cars on the highvays, and among their drivers will be many bad ones, aid it is these we mst watch out for. It began over t h e Labor Day week end i n 1940 a t E r i e , Penna a t t h e NRC Convention. Those of u s a t t e n d i n g noted t h a t t h e f u t u r e o f t h e

*,.club bras i n doubt , i n f a c t ve ry much i n doubt. There had been no i s s u e s "of t h e c lub b u l l e t i n f o r 2 months and no in su rance t h a t f u t u r e ones would be i s sued . R e s u l t , knowing t h i s I began t o persuade t h e one per- son i n charge t o t u r n over t h e c lub equiptment t o me and I would s ee t o i t t h a t t h e c lub b u l l e t i n s would be publ i shed r e g u l a r l y . It was no t un- til e a r l y October t h a t my e f f o r t s bore f r u i t . A f t e r b r i n g i n g j u s t a cheap mimeo maching back w i t h me from E r i e a l o n g wi th very few b u l l e t i n enve lopes and no th ing more, o t h e r t han a b i t of adv ice d e a l i n g w i t h how t o do t h e mimeo job, a b u l l e t i n was publ i shed on October 2 1 19.40,

In o rde r t o p u b l i s h t h a t i s s u e I was f o r c e d t o f o o t t h e b i l l s f o r t h e mimeo paper-mimeo i n k - s t e n c i l s and stamps, The c lub when t u r n - ed over t o me w a s BFiCk'E. I a l s o r ece ived a membership l i s t c o n t a i n i n g a t o t a l of 160 named b u t upon c a r e f u l examination found t h a t on ly 63 o f t hose members were paying annua l dues. Thus a f t e r 2 more i s s u e s we con t inued wi th a t o t a l o f 63 members. They were a s s u r e d t h a t b u l l e t i n s would be forthcoming r e g u l a r l y and I am very g l ad t o s t a t e t h a t t h o s e members cooperated t o t h e utmost and t h e c lub t hen cont inued t o grow l i t t l e by l i t t l e .

The N.R.C. w a s o r i g i n a t e d i n 1933 a t York, Pennsylvania. It was t r a n s f e r r e d t o E r i e i n 1937 when compl ica t ions s e t i n and t h o s e doing c l u b work a t York could no t cont inue. It w a s on ly 3 y e a r s a t E r i e when a l i k e s i t u a t i o n occured. Thus you can r e a d i l y see t h a t t h e N R C had i t s t r o u b l e s i n i t s beginning.

S ince t h e NRC came t o Buf fa lo i n 1940, t h e r e g u l a r schedule o f . 3 4 i s s u e s per y e a r h a s been ,main ta ined wi thout a m i s s . For t h e f i r s t 6 y e a r s (19.40-1946) Pop Edge d i d j u s t about a l l t h e c lub work necessary even t o c u t t i n g t h e s t e n c i l s con t a in ing members r e p o r t s . Then a t t h e Labor day convention i n Buffa lo E rn i e Cooper o f f e r e d t o t a k e t h e job o f s t e n c i l c u t t i n g o f f my hands and l i g h t e n my work load . Fred Van- Voorhees took on t h e job of c u t t i n g t h e s t e n c i l s f o r our s h o r t wave s e c t i o n . A couple y e a r s l a t e r t h e NRC dropped eve ry th ing except t h e b roadcas t band and we became t h e f i rs t s t r i c t l y BCB DX Club i n t h e count ry , i n f a c t I belkeve i n t h e world, This d e c i s i o n was w i s e s t move t h e NRC made because i t was from t h a t time on t h a t our membership be- gan t o i n c r e a s e r a p i d l y , A t t h i s same t ime Van Voorhees cont inued t o c u t t h e s t e n c i l s bu t h i s ' s h o r t wave s e c t i o n now became t h e " I n t e r - n a t i o n Fore ign DX U i g e s t i ~ . This s e c t i o n of DX News became v e r y popular .

I n 1953 Hal Wagner r e l e i v e d me of t h e pub l i sh ing job and k e p t it f o r 2 y e a r s when I was a g a i n askcd t o r e l i e v e him which I d id f o r t h e y e a r s 1954-56 a t which t ime some l a d s from a long t h e Hudson took it f o r t h e y e a r of 1956-57. Kagner r e took it from 1957-59 a t which t ime h e informed a l l t h a t he could no t con t inue pub l i sh ing DX News a f t e r

-* t h e August 1959 i s s u e . We asked f o r someone o r some group t o t a k e over w i t h t h e r e s u l t t h a t only 2 o f f e r s were r ece ived , n e i g h t were satis- f a c t o r y , no r d id e i t h e r one guaran tee t h e f u t u r e o f t h e NRC.

A t t h e Omaha NRC Convention 1959 Pop Edge was persuaded t o r e - t a k e t h e pub l i sh ing job. This was done bu t under t h e cond i t i ons t h a t I o u t l i n e d a t t h a t convention which were;- The NRC Government would c o n s i s t of t h e Exgc Sec-and Pub l i she r - t h e Musings E d i t o r and t h e I n t e r n a t i o n a l DX i g e s t Ed i to r . That DX News would t r i e d t o be l i m i t e d t o no more t han 10 s h e e t s o f paper (20 pages) That t h e annua l dues would remain a t $4,00 p e r yea r and t h a t I would guaran tee t h a t DX News would con t inue t o b e publ i shed 34 t imes each yea r and on time. L a s t l y t h a t I would guaran tee t h e above f o r 5 y e a r s a t which t ime I in tended t o r e t i r e . This was unanimously adopted bv a l l a t t e n d i n g t h a t conven-
