The First Radio Message On December 12, 1901, Guglielmo Marconi (the inventor of

the radio) received the first radio signal across the Atlantic. (from Newfoundland to England)

Shortly after noon he got a signal from his friend Cornwall, England . He got the letter S in Morse code.

Radio was called the wireless in those days 1902 Marconi sent larger messages back and forth to

In the 1930’s the government of Canada created a nationwide network of radio stations; it was named the ‘’Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’’.

One of the most popular programs in Canadian history got started in November 1931

Canadians gathered around their radio’s on Saturday night, to watch ‘’Hockey Night In Canada.’’ The shows speaker was ‘’Foster Hewitt.’’

Foster Hewitt became famous for his phrase ‘’ he shoots, he scores.’’
