The Growing issue in the World

• Poverty is a serious global issue that is only worsening every minute

• Every year there are over 9 million people who die because of hunger and malnutrition. That is way too many . The sad part is that 40-50 percent of the food ready for harvest in the US never gets eaten. Wow. Imagine how many people we could feed with all that wasted food.

The Wealthy and the Poor• The Wealthy people in the world are asking why they should help

the poor. It is the powerful that are criticizing the poor for not being able to get a job.

• Consider this “we have about 50% of the world’s wealth, but only 6.3% of its population.…In this situation, we cannot fail to be the object of envy and resentment. Our real task in the coming period is to devise a pattern of relationships which will permit us to maintain this position of disparity.…To do so, we will have to dispense with all sentimentality and day-dreaming; and our attention will have to be concentrated everywhere on our immediate national objectives.…We should cease to talk about vague and… unreal objectives such as human rights, the raising of the living standards, and democratization. The day is not far off when we are going to have to deal in straight power concepts. The less we are then hampered by idealistic slogans, the better.”-George Kennan, US department policy planning

Solving World Hunger doesn’t Solve World Poverty

• You have to remember that solving world hunger (providing more food, harvesting more) doesn’t tackle or resolve the issue of poverty itself. Sure you solve the hunger problems but you still can’t provide millions of people enough money for them to survive on

• To solve world hunger in the long run, poverty needs to be resolved first
