In the previous slide, I’ve inserted pictures that prove how General Zaroff appears to be in the beginning of the story, a sophisticated and refined man.In one of the pictures, we can see how fascinating his chateau is.In another we can see the picture of the opera “Madama Butterfly” that Zaroff was humming during the story. We can even notice the elegant champagne he was drinking, “Pol Roger”, and the statue of Marcus Aurelius, whose works Zarrof reads to soothe himself.

As we read further in the story, we discover that Zaroff is a cold hearted man who is obsessed with danger. In order to fulfill his need for danger, Zaroff has taken hunting to the extreme, he has decided to hunt humans. In the slide above we can observe some pictures of how Zarrof really is and not how he seems to be.In one of the pictures we can see the Russian Cossacks who Zarrof once belonged to. In addition, his picture in the movie shows how cold his face is and how threatening it seems to be. Finally, the picture of blood shows how he condones cold blood murder.
