Shang 1700 B.C.~1100 B.C. Writing and wheeled chariots. Zhou 1100 B.C.~256 B.C. First canals built. Qin 221 B.C.~206 B.C. Great wall unified, standard weights and measures

invented. Han 206 B.C.~A.D.220 Buddhism brought in, paper, compass, and seismograph

invented. Tang A.D. 618~A.D. 907 First book written. China starts trading with western

Land of ChinaChina has all sorts of landscapes. Mountains,

rivers, plateau, canals, deserts, …etc. The highest mountain is Mount. Everest, which is located on the boarder of China and Nepal. To the middle land, there is Gobi Desert. Gobi Desert is the biggest desert in the world. The temperature rise to 45ºc at daytime and drop to -40ºc at night. The Yangtze River is the main river in China. Yangtze River is called Chang Jiang in Chinese, which means “great river”.

Water of ChinaChina’s people mostly get their water from the

rivers that flows from the Plateau of Tibet. The two major rivers are the Yangtze River and the Huang He River. However, as the China’s agriculture and industry grew, China’s beautiful environments were destroyed. Some of the China’s factories were sending the toxic wastes to the rivers, which was illegal.

Climate of ChinaEastern China have humid subtropical climate which

means hot summers and cold winters with plenty of rain.

The northern interior of China have very hot summer and very cold winter. (humid continental.)

The southern interior of China, near the Plateau of Tibet, the climate is cool and dry. (highland climate.)

China’s VegetationThe sand from the Gobi Desert is full of moisture

and minerals. Which allows the people of the northern China to grow crops in a fertile soil.

Rice is a crop that needs a lot of water (moisture) but wheat doesn’t really need that much water. Therefore, since the major rivers are in the southern part of China, people in south usually eat rice and people in north usually eat noodles made out of wheat.

Natural Resources of ChinaChina has a lot of hydroelectric power since they

have a lot of rivers. Since China has a mass amount of land, they have

little bit of every natural resources except gold and silver.

The natural resources of China helps China’s agriculture and exports.

Traditions of ChinaPeople of China is very famous for their traditional

arts such as painting, calligraphy, sculpture, architecture, and potteries. Their paintings and calligraphy is mostly done with brushes. In China there is a lot of sculptures of Buddha. Some are as small as a iPod and some are as big as a mountain. The humongous sculptures are usually called the Wonders of China.

People of ChinaThere are more than one billion people in

China(1.3billion). There are more than 50 minority groups(ethnic groups).They wear clothes called Mao made by Mao Zedong himself. As we talked about in class, people wear colors like yellow, green, blue, black,…etc.

China’s CulturesChina’s people usually believe in Buddhism.

There are some people that believe other gods.People eat traditional food like dim sum, tea,

moon cake, and etc. Even though they have other western food, they still love their own traditional food.

In China, they use ancient healing techniques such as massage, medicinal herbs, acupuncture, exercise, and cupping that are more than 6000 years old instead of modern medical treatments.

Transformation of ChinaAs the China’s government saw the seriousness of

China’s poorness, they began to allow free enterprise, which means the people can earn more money and own private lands. Today, China is slowly becoming a free country. Their poorness had changed into richness.
