Event 1:In A.D 500- the bishops (now
known as popes) became the leaders of the Catholic Church and their influence
was so strong that they became important political
figures. Event 2:
In A.D 500- the first Bible
was completed. The popes sent out missionaries to
teach people all over Europe about Christianity.
EVENTS 1 AND 2
Event 3:A.D 700- One of the most
important German Kingdoms of the Franks controlled most of
France and Germany. The word “France” comes from the word
“Frank.”
Event 4:In the beginning of the A.D
1000’s- the church sponsored a series of wars called the
Crusades. They sent out armies to capture Jerusalem from the
Islamic Caliphs. They also spread Christianity for 400 more years in northern and
eastern Europe.
EVENTS 3 AND 4
Event 5:A.D 771- Charlemagne was elected King of the
Franks. Through territorial war,
Charlemagne added more of Germany and
parts of Spain and Italy, including Rome, to the Kingdom of the Franks.
Event 6:Christmas Day, A.D 800-
Charlemagne knelt before the pope in the Church of St. Peter in Rome, and he was announced the Protector of the Christian Church in the
West.
EVENTS 5 AND 6
Event 7:A.D 814- After Charlemagne's
death, the Empire was inherited by his sons, grandsons, and eventually separated into different Kingdoms. These kingdoms were the modern
foundation of Germany, Italy, France, and Spain.
Event 8:During the Middle Ages most of
the buildings were churches. There was an assigned church for everyone. Each church had 200
people assigned to it. Cities such as York, Lincoln and Norwich for
example, had around 10,000 people in their cities. So there
was usually around 50 churches per city.
EVENTS 7 AND 8
As I was strolling through the streets of town I hear a bell ring about three or four times, and a man shouts “BISHOPS BECOME POLITICAL FIGURES!” I wasn’t surprised by this, my husband has
been working so hard and he deserves to make more decisions for our town. I cook dinner for my children and my husband, Darrell. He had the same reaction I had. He says he will be getting paid
more and a light flows through the room. He also shares with me that the new bible has been published and copies will be passed
out on Church Day.
On Sunday, as we are walking out of church, we are handed a newly published bible. My daughter, Mildred, tells me, that at
school, she has learned that the German kingdoms of the Franks has controlled most of France and More of Germany. She says that
the word “France” comes from the word “Franks.” As we walk through the streets hand in hand as a family, we see missionaries
telling people about Christianity and giving them Bibles and directions to the Church. My husband decides to help them so I
compliment him with his good job at the Church today and I walk home with Mildred and my son, Burrow.
Charlemagne has now became the King of the Franks. Over many territorial wars, Charlemagne has added parts of Spain,
more of Germany, and Italy (including Rome) to the territory of the Franks.
My husband walks in and he says that Charlemagne has now been announced as the Protector of the Christian Church in the
west. I serve my family dinner and I smile because I’m so grateful of what I have compared to the conditions some people are in.
