What is it?

A hard disk is a part of the computer, that stores and provides a relatively quick access to large amounts of data. All computers have one.

Today’s computers usually come with one that can store several gigabytes.

This is the inside part of a hard disk.

A thin metal object(something like an arm but in a relatively fixed position) writes or reads the information. Two heads, one on each side of a disk, read or write the data as the disk spins. Then the disk has some wires connected to it that take the data to the screen.

How does it work?

These are the heads.

This is the part that sostain de arms.

What is a hard disk for?

All the hard disks share the same purpose, to store data. Some of them can store a large amount of data.

They can usually store more than 100 Gb.

Different kinds of hard disks:

Here are some examples of hard disks:

IDE, SATA (they look almost the same), the PATA, SCSI, and SSD.

What is it for?

It controls the motion of a cursor which makes the manage of the computer easier. They are usually connected to the computer by a USB port but sometimes they are wireless.

They function by the motion of a roller ball being converted into light signals. Furthermore, the light signals are converted to the binary type of data and which is finally sent to the computer. Nowadays, some kinds of mouse don’t have a roller ball they just have a light(laser mice).

How does it function?

Keyboard

What is it for?

Basically, the keyboard is used to type text and numbers into a word processor, text editor or other program. The whole computer can be controlled with the keyboard.

How does it function?Computer keyboards are an input device. They put the

information a person types into a program on the computer. Most keyboards have 80 to 110 keys. The numbers and letters on the keyboard are displayed keycaps--these are the buttons that are pressed when a person types.

Different types of keyboards:There are three types of keyboards:The Standard, that is the most common one. It is used in all the computers. It is not included with the computer. The Laptop-size, that is the one that usually comes included with the laptop. Their keys are flat.Thumb-sized, it comes with the BlackBerry or any other small big cell-phone. It is very small and it is not very comfortable to write with it.
