I think that quote means that killing and destroying is not good for the world. And there is nothing kind in the war except for the ending which means all the bad stuff will stop. I think this quote is significant because it is not good to kill people. Just because it’s in war doesn’t mean it’s good.

“I worked night and day for twelve years to prevent the war, but I could not. The North was mad and blind, would not let us govern ourselves, so the war came.”

-Jefferson Davis

I think that this quote means that Jefferson Davis worked so hard to stop the war but it didn’t work. The North was mad that the South was trying govern themselves. So the war started. I think the significance of this quote is that you should not govern yourself because we are all one nation.

“America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.”

I think this quote means this land will never be destroyed. We are only destroying ourselves by killing us in war. I think this quote is significant because in war we kill each other. The land will always be here but when we lose our lives we don’t have another one.

I think this quote means that it’s a good thing war is terrible because then we would probably like to do it. I think the significance of this quote is that we shouldn’t like war because it is a bad thing to do.

"America has no north, no south, no east, no west. The sun rises over the hills and sets over the mountains, the compass just points up and down, and we can laugh now at the absurd nation of there being a north and a south. We are one and undivided."

I think this quote means that we can laugh at the old America for having a North and a South because this nation was made as one. I think the significance of this quote is that the nation should never divided again and that it was silly to have a North and a South.
