*Farm Machinery

* I made this PowerPoint about farm machinery and farm safety because I am very interested in farming. My Granda has a farm and I love to go there. When I go to the farm I give the cows silage and meal. I put in bales with our Massey Ferguson 135 tractor and bale spike.

* I drive my quad up the lane even though it is very dark.

* This presentation is all about farm machinery.

*What is a Tractor?

A tractor is a machine that works on a farm. It is used for ploughing, sowing, mowing, lifting bales, towing trailers, towing other machinery and cultivating the ground.

Tractors are usually used with other machinery to do these jobs.

Our tractor is a vintage Massey Ferguson 165. I cant drive it because the steering is too heavy for me.

I can drive my Granda’s two tractors, they are a MF 399 and a MF 135. My uncle has a Ford 7610 and I can drive that too. Tractors are easy to drive.

I am not allowed to drive on the road.

*My Quad

My quad is a mean machine. I can race about the fields on my quad. My quad is an E-TON 70. I got it in 2013 from Santa. My daddy put a tow bar on it for me. I can pull my trailer with it. I love my quad!

Big quads can be very dangerous because they can cope over. You have to be careful. I wear a helmet when I’m on my quad. There are lots of different makes like Honda, Polaris and Suzuki.Quads are very useful for farmers but people use them for fun too. They race them and do jumps with them.

*Safety on the Farm

Safety is very important on the farm because there is a lot of very big machinery around. There are a lot of accidents on farms and every year people are killed or injured. It is very dangerous for children on farms because they are small and tractor drivers cannot see them. Slurry pits are very dangerous too. I wear a helmet when I drive my quad because it goes very fast. You have to be careful with animals as well as they can get excited, especially bulls.

*Taarup Mower

This mower is used to mow the grass for hay or silage. You need to have very dry weather for hay. Hay is for is for cows, horses and sheep. Silage can be put in pits or bales. Silage is usually for cattle. Hay and silage are cut in the summertime. The best quality is in early summer. The more dried out the better.

*The Bale

Spike

Bale spikes are very dangerous. They are made of very sharp steel. The bale spike is used to lift and move round bales of silage or hay. The farmer uses the round bales to feed cattle and sometimes sheep.

VINTAGE TRACTOR

this is a Massey Ferguson 135. It is more than 30 years old.It is still working but has seen a lot of action. It has no hand rev. A lot of people have vintage tractors. Vintage tractors are fun. People bring them to shows.

*The forkliftA forklift is used for heavy duty lifting. It can be very dangerous. You have to be very careful how much you lift because it can capsize if you lift something too heavy.

* You need a lot of machinery if you have livestock on the farm especially in winter because the livestock are inside and they need to be fed. Food for livestock is heavy so you need machines. Long ago before there were balers or other machines farmers had to use horses to do all the work on the farm.

* A slurry tanker is used for fertilising grass. The farmer has to empty the slurry tanks on the farm land when its dry. It’s a smelly job!

* This trailer is now used for carting sand and gravel when there is

building going on.Sometimes we use it to carry square

and round bales for the cattle as well.
