FoBVPS KS2 film night 5.15 pm – 7.15 pm Monday 10 April – Friday 21 April – Easter Holidays. Children back to school Monday 24 April. As the sun shone, our ultra-excited children and staff boarded the coach and headed to the Lodge Hill activity centre. Their two days were jam packed with new adventures, challenges galore and opportunities to grow in maturity, wisdom and stature. Whilst there, they tried new foods and made new friends, accomplishing things which they never before imagined. They tunnelled, climbed walls and went go- karting, they tried tubing and all manner of team building. It was a wonderful experience for them all and once again we thank our dedicated team of staff for their endless energy in providing these two days. Our Year 5 & 6 Boys’ Football Team made the short journey to Lindfield to represent Bolnore at the 7-aside tournament this week. As always, the children played with such determination and pride – showing skills and talent, which were a real credit to their training and hard work. They cruised through the group stages, but lost in the semis. A special Easter THANK YOU to Jon Hobbs from Grace Church, who came in on Monday to share the message of Easter with our children. He gave them food for thought in three words: The Crown, The Cross and The Clue. Parents came to watch our annual Spring Bonnet Parade on Thursday morning. Many of our Early Years children popped on their fabulous creations and made their way around the playground, proudly smiling at their parents and other relatives who came to watch. Thank you to all who helped prepare the bonnets for this occasion. Our well-rehearsed Choir took to the stage on Friday to perform a number of songs to the school and their parents. We have some amazing singers in our school and it was a true delight to hear them all. We thank Hannah, Elspeth and Mrs Divall for their continued hard work with our choir. Tuesday afternoon saw a number of schools join us for an exciting literary event: A Book Battle! Ella L and Ella PB moved around the hall, presenting their arguments for their book of choice. There was a real buzz about the room and children and adults alike took a real interest in what was going on. Thank you to Miss Elliott for organising this event and making the difference to children across the locality. A special well done to Ella Pemberton-Billing who argued her case for Diary of a Wimpy Kid…and won! Congratulations! Next Thursday 6 April is the Spring Term KS2 Film Night. The film being shown is Moana - doors open at 5.00 pm, with the event ending at 7.00 pm. Entry cost £2.50 on the door, which includes a drink and popcorn. Open to children in Years 3-6, who attend BVPS. This week sees the last Music lessons of the Spring term and Mr Morley would like to give all parents and carers a brief example of how we are bringing together the many aspects and elements of Music and the National Curriculum. Children in Year 1 have been reading, clapping and reciting (using the Kodály Method), four beat patterns of crotchets and quavers. They then learned and repeated a simple song, 'Bee, Bee, Bumble Bee', as a fun circle-based activity - something we'll sing as a round after a little more practice. Last week, the children successfully copied the song's rhythm (its crotchets and quavers) onto their own worksheets. Coming up in the Summer term, we will be trying to locate the song's notes of E, G and A on the correct lines of the treble clef musical stave. Mr Maker has been demonstrating his skills this week out at Forest School. Children have been learning from him how to make Towers of Hanoi, crafting them from chestnut and using a range of tools. We think they look great! Take a look at a recent RE display to go up in school. They have been exploring the idea of sharing things. We have noticed that lots of parents are chatting to Katie whilst she is doing her job as our Lollipop Lady. We politely request you keep conversations to a minimum when she is on duty – it is important that she keeps her attention on the road. Mrs Allen is off to visit our foster elephants in Kenya in the holiday. If you would like to help the School renew their orphans and/or adopt new baby elephants, please send in a donation. Mrs Allen will take photos and pick up the adoption packs. Help us save the ellies! No one achieved 100%! Well done to Apple and Hazel classes, both of whom achieved 97% attendance, our target! We’re very proud of Mr Mr Mr Mr Sears! Sears! Sears! Sears! He has been appointed Headteacher at Northlands Wood Primary School from September. We shall all miss his teaching and leadership talent and his skill as DJ on the decks!
