The railroad from Phtils- hurgh now make* that point the more de.<lral»le plaee to land, lhtt I was drawn to thi> port by stronger considerations than railroads. At Port Kent is the resldenee of WluMow C Watson. lUtp, to whom the readers of the Observer and many other readers have been largely indebted In years past. His father was Blkanab Watson, ui rev- olutionary memory, born in Plymouth. Mass., of tlie Winslow family whose stock was iu the Mayflower. Its snircs unit towers hi full view/ To the south, a* far as the eye sees lies the broad lake and the (Ireen Moun- tain range, with Mount Mansfield and the Cam- el's Hump towering high above all the re-t. I enjoyed a few days iu such a snot, with books and friends, by the wells of philosophy and his- tory, while the waters of the Lake and the silent majesty of the mountains were speaking con- stantly to the soul; a wild, romantic and exci- ting region of country near and inviting me to explore its mysteries. We pass over the extracts, atul what he Bays about tlte Chasm, except the conclud- ding paragraph : Coining up out of the eha?m, awed bv tt c grandeur and majesty of this mighty cleft In the rocks, an agreeable surprise awaited us. Df?i» FniToa:-Wefcel indebted to the "Prcsa" for the report of remarkable case* of dl*eaM of tha Kye, which haa been ao auccewfully treated by Dr. Hamnel llayneaof the Champlain Vallev K^eand Kar Inttrmary, (of vhe tr Jth of aome of the caaet reported we nad knowledge, though they bad pass- ed from our min^s.) From thoae reporu, we wer« encouraged to hope that our daughter nit^ni poasl> hly be «aved irom becomlns; Wind. We had Bought for ber the advice and treatment of medical gentle- men of conceded ability, and yet her cane continued to get worse, and from what we learned of the dis* ea*e, from the Doctors, we despaired of her ever being helped. The disease was known aa Amauro- »»« t a disease of the Oylic Nerve, or back partof the K\e. With doubts and fears, as on other occasions, of seeking the advice so much desired, lhatahould give relief, we called on Dr. Haynes, at the United States Hotel, Plattsburnh, on the 2d day of December, 1K66. We desired that the Doctor ataouid be cau- tioua nut to give an unfavorable opinion of the case in her preaenre, for she had give up all hopea In re- gard to her caac. Overtasking the eyes by kerosene light and con- tinuing lo UHC them aft*r they were very weak, brought on the disease In queatlon. For three years we sought relief for her, which did not reault iu rendering her ibe more hopeful and happy. Dr. fUyncs entered into a critical examination of her case, at the close of which he did not feel war- ranted In giving toe great encouragement aa to the termination ol ihe ciscaae. We remarked lo htm that we had paid ou 1 conniderable, without her be. tng benetiited, and ihe prospect of anything being done thai would be of any service to her, was no cheerless, that weemeatfed to pay nothing before we wereaatiallud some good waa to be received. Money did not seem uppermost in the Doctor's mind, and yet he t>ok deep interest in tie case, and in reply said that aervitardtt pay, He wo* Id leave that with our conscience to do what we t> It waa righl as between ot.Ac. We placed her under his advice and treat- m- nt, though we anticipated little more lhan here- tofore, but we were happtly disappointed, for we had the pleasure of seeing an improvement lo ber general health (with but now and then a relapse,) and alao in her Kye *l«ht for the two years abc con- t>nued ander his treatment, and now we bate rea- son to feel indebted as above atated to tha "Pre**" and to be under a debt of lasting gratllude to the Doctor, for saving her from becoming blind, which we can never repay. fc . , And now, friend Editor, hoping that this letter may be ihe means of rendering aome others happier, aa we have been made happier, and that the impor- tance of the subject (which can only be appreciated by the afflicted,) may be ample excuse for so long a letier, we aie gratefully and Uuly yours, JOH* Diss, LAtiKia DCKW. We believe that the society now rightfully ehtun that they have the most commodious fair grounds as well as the best trotting course in this section of the State. The number of entries was, compared with some former exhibitions, small, and yet thoy were amply suilicient to muko u very flue show.

•-Some farmers are through having, but a majority are not* Albeit Blood has about thirty tons to cut now.

—It is much more healthy since the mu made Us appearance to lap up the mould and rain, and we are quite chcerly.

*~Thu ingress of city guests is not done. Still the egress has commenced moderately.

--During the rainy season wi had a rather strange phenomenon, Near mid-day it became very dark, and We discovered that the cloud;* had settled down Inside the hills that encircle us, and formed a very dark belt all around, and was| connected with an oval arcade above so dense as to exclude the rays of light, and we could not see either hill or mountain. Though strange and picturesque, tt was gloomy to feel ourselves thus imprisoned in impenetrable darkness. But soon the lightnings Hashed and the thunder?; pealed so frightfully that wc stepped in and to<k our seats to witness the most terrific battle of heaven's artillery ever known before.

--Dan Baker was arrested fur theft and brought before Justice Nicholson, l ie waived examination, and failing to give bail he took lodging in the jail.

•-Out Union School commenced its fall term the 2d of September, under very encouraging auspices, as we have Miss Young and Miss Roberts, Hrst-class teachers, in the lower departments, and Mr. Chandler in the Academical department.

So In like manner, our Johnny has been blowing Boft soap thro* his Greeley horn Into the very face and eyes of his own party. To the disgust of many, he blowed hot and cold, high and low, good and bad, and so loud and long that wo fear that it produced tho chill fever, which has recently shook him like a leaf in

14 How TO VtMT J ntc AntnoSDArhH.11— Thus heads Mr. Prime's second letter. As we expected, he gets along to Judge Watson's, We pass over much that is interesting, and land with Mr, Prime al Port Kent:

Thii* has lung been tho grand port of entry tc* the wilderness. The railroad from Phtils-hurgh now make* that point the more de.<lral»le plaee to land, lhtt I was drawn to thi> port by stronger considerations than railroads. At Port Kent is the resldenee of WluMow C Watson. lUtp, to whom the readers of the Observer and many other readers have been largely indebted In years past. His father was Blkanab Watson, ui revolutionary memory, born in Plymouth. Mass. , of tlie Winslow family whose stock was iu the Mayflower. He was hi France during a large part of the war of the Revolution, in active cooperation aud correspondence with all our great statesmen of that day . l i e came to the State of New York after the war, aud entered ardently Into iichemes of Internal improvement to develop the resources ui the country, His saga-clous mind wa* the fir-t to conceive the grand Idea of uniting Lake Erie aud the Hudson Hiver by canal, and he lived to sec it done, though, us In many otWer Instance*, tin* credit of the m-trnft'oii'has. been generally ascribed '.o another. He bought vast tracts of ' lund on Lake Cham-plain and settled at Port Kent, having In his mind the splendid cone'vpiion of unit ing the lakes of the Adirondack region with each other and then with Lake Cl.aiuphtiu, so that four hundred mites of interior water communication would be opened up through a region whose mineral wealth and lumber arc Incalculably valuable.

His son. Wlhs lou C. Watson, wns horn In Albany, ami there studied law, and afterwards he was* a student iu the oillce of (ten. Aaron Ward, in Westchester County, who married his sister. Mr. Watson settled in Plattshurgh when tie was 21 yean- of atfe, and has acquired great distinction in the Held "f law, polities, history and literature,

Mhich a man ft have enjoyed his friendship for tiearly forty years) Invites ine every summer to come to his home ou the lake. I have half a mind to copy the letter he wrote to me this year. It would give vim HO beautifullv a portrait of «hc man. He u e i me at the landing in the mid>t of a pouring rain and in a few moments I wus by a cheerful fire on the third day of August In hf-hospitable house, lu the midst of hU delightful family. His house is on a bluff, overlooking the Lake at its widest part. It is fifteen mlle> to Vermont shore in a bay before us. but the city of Burlington Is only ten miles oil . Its snircs unit towers hi full v i e w / To the south, a* far as the eye sees lies the broad lake and the (Ireen Mountain range, with Mount Mansfield and the Camel's Hump towering high above all the re-t. I enjoyed a few days iu such a snot, with books and friends, by the wells of philosophy and history, while the waters of the Lake and the silent majesty of the mountains were speaking constantly to the sou l ; a wild, romantic and exciting region of country near and inviting me to explore its mysteries.

We pass over the extracts, atul what he Bays about tlte Chasm, except the conclud-ding paragraph :

Coining up out of the eha?m, awed bv tt c grandeur and majesty of this mighty cleft In the rocks, an agreeable surprise awaited us. The ladies of Port Kent had come out to this romantic spot, and in the shadows of the nine groves had spread a bounteous table, to which we were Invited. A fea>t in the woods and In the society of new found friends, wus a welcome addition to the pleasures of the day.

C>**T,JulyM,1*eS. Df?i» F n i T o a : - W e f c e l indebted to the "Prcsa"

for the report of remarkable case* of dl*eaM of tha Kye, which haa been ao auccewfully treated by Dr. Hamnel l layneaof the Champlain Vallev K^eand Kar Inttrmary, (of vhe tr Jth of aome of the caaet reported we nad knowledge, though they bad passed from our min^s.) From thoae reporu, we wer« encouraged to hope that our daughter nit^ni poasl> hly be «aved irom becomlns; Wind. We had Bought for ber the advice and treatment of medical gentlemen of conceded ability, and yet her cane continued to get worse, and from what we learned of the dis* ea*e, from the Doctors, we despaired of her ever being helped. The disease was known aa Amauro-»»«t a disease of the Oylic Nerve, or back partof the K\e.

With doubts and fears, as on other occasions, of seeking the advice so much desired, lhatahould give relief, we called on Dr. Haynes, at the United States Hotel, Plattsburnh, on the 2d day of December, 1K66. We desired that the Doctor ataouid be cau-tioua nut to give an unfavorable opinion of the case in her preaenre, for she had give up all hopea In regard to her caac.

Overtasking the eyes by kerosene light and continuing lo UHC them aft*r they were very weak, brought on the disease In queatlon. For three years we sought relief for her, which did not reault iu rendering her ibe more hopeful and happy.

Dr. fUyncs entered into a critical examination of her case, at the close of which he did not feel warranted In giving toe great encouragement aa to the termination ol ihe ciscaae. We remarked lo htm that we had paid ou1 conniderable, without her be. tng benetiited, and ihe prospect of anything being done thai would be of any service to her, was no cheerless, that weemeatfed to pay nothing before we wereaatiallud some good waa to be received. Money did not seem uppermost in the Doctor's mind, and yet he t>ok deep interest in t i e case, and in reply said that aervitardtt pay, He wo* Id leave that with our conscience to do what we t> It waa righl as between ot .Ac. We placed her under his advice and treat-m- nt, though we anticipated little more lhan heretofore, but we were happtly disappointed, for we had the pleasure of seeing an improvement lo ber general health (with but now and then a relapse,) and alao in her Kye *l«ht for the two years abc con-t>nued ander his treatment, and now we bate reason to feel indebted as above atated to tha "Pre**" and to be under a debt of lasting gratllude to the Doctor, for saving her from becoming blind, which we can never repay. fc . ,

And now, friend Editor, hoping that this letter may be ihe means of rendering aome others happier, aa we have been made happier, and that the importance of the subject (which can only be appreciated by the afflicted,) may be ample excuse for so long a letier, we aie gratefully and Uuly yours,

In garanac t The following cerllficaU Is from & son of Mr.

Doran, for the laat eight years County Treasurer of Le bueur Co , Ulnn.. who is now attending school at Buranac: To any xthom it »*<ty concern ;

In January, 1866,1 contracted alight inflammatloi of the eyes, but tor the want of proper car^ my cane berame i hronic, and for along lime my caae was treated at home without sucrew, when I was sent to New York city for treatment in the fall of IIW, and remained three months without having a cure ertVcled.

From the report given by a lady from my town, and under Dr. 8. Hainc*1 care, in October, 1W8,1 was placed under HHyi.es' treatment. A l that time one eye was suffering from chronic Inflammation* wtih a Him over ihe nghi, which caused auch a degree of blindness lhai I could only distinguish light irom darkness with it.

In a few weeks my ease had progressed so well that the Doctor sent me lo school, which I waa able lo attend all winter without ihe iuterraissiou of a day on account of my eyes, and am now attending school and still my eyes grow alronger.

JAMES DOKAM. Baranax, U u y l , IS09.

We believe the Importance of the s u b l e t sufil-cient apology for making uaeof the following private letu r from the father of the above James Doran:

If. Doran being a man of intelligence, though he had been to the eipense of hundred $ of dollars to aend his son to New York city, yet rather than to have his son grope in darknesa through life, was ready and willing lo incur the further eipense o f hundreds more to send him Into the Valley of Lake Champlain with the hope per chance of obtaining h e p for his aao. And what Is worthy of mark, see his willingness to pay, coupled with his gratitude.

15 YKARB OF BLINDNESS C U R E D . * When I wuK three >earsold 1 had the measles,

It waa fifteen lontf years from ihe time that my eyiM became affected to the time when I was induced lo apply to Dr. ti. Haynea. But 1 nm grateful tn being abte to write, that after having been under treatment for a few weeks, my sight is perfectly restored.

Miss ABIGAIL TAUDT. Boekmantowti, N. Y., Feb. 11,1809. When tht father of the said Abigail, J. B. Pardy,

Highly Interesting Caae. The Importance of lbs subject is reason sufficient for giving the following quotation from Mr. Bosworib's letter.
