Buying a Camera
There are several different types of cameras. One is a point and shoot camera; it
has the basic features and automatic usage capabilities. These cameras are generally
easy to use and have minimal settings and adjustments that will easily get the job done.
This is a perfect camera for a first time buyer or a teenager. Another is the DSLR
cameras, they offer more power, speed and special features. These are manually
controlled, larger and more expensive. I would prefer the point and shoot camera
because I am not the most responsible person and I wouldn’t want to spend a lot of
money on something that I will lose or break.
There are so many different brands of cameras, but my top three favorite brands
are Kodak, Canon, and Nikon. Canon is the market leader in point-and-shoot cameras.
Kodak focuses on the use being easy, and they have very budget friendly point and
shoot cameras. Kodak doesn’t offer SLR cameras. Nikon has a large variety of point
and shoot cameras which are known as “Coolpix” cameras.
Point and shoot cameras come in five different types. There is the basic, which is
very reasonable in price, easy to use, and small in size. Although the image quality may
be dull. Advanced point and shoot cameras have better image quality, are able to
control the speed of the shutter and change settings. They can be a little more difficult
to use than the basic and will be more expensive. Megazoom has really good lenses,
image stabilization, and manual controls. Some down falls about the megazoom is that
it is a bit more expensive, and it is a lot bigger in size. There is a Pocket version of the

megazoom; which is more portable but still has almost all the same features. Also, there
is a ruggedized camera that is water resistant and can handle freezing and heat. This
type of camera doesn’t have as many features but it is extremely durable. If I had to
choose what type of camera to buy I would stick with the basic camera because it would
be easy to handle, it’s smaller in size and not too pricey; just the way I like them.
If price wasn’t a factor in buying a camera, I would choose to buy the Nikon
Coolpix S6100 Camera. It has 16 megapixels, a touch screen and isn’t as complicated
as the other fancy, expensive cameras. It is still somewhat cheap in price, comes in cool
colors and isn’t bulky. If I was limited to $200 then I would still chose this camera from
Best Buy, because it was priced $199.99, sure there will be taxes but I have a piggy
bank.
I researched the Nikon 1 J1 with 10-30mm and 30-110mm lenses and reviews
said it was a very high class camera that takes excellent videos. There were some bad
things said about it also, “The CX lens system drops manual focus rings on the lenses;
you can't use flash above 1/60 sec; and there's no option for an EVF.” Over all they said
the camera was great but nothing they would buy, it is just an “expensive point and
shoot camera upgraded.
Trying to find the right place to buy a camera can be difficult. If you are a big
online shopper then Amazon is the website to use, the prices are very cheap. For your
in store shoppers, Best Buy is the place to go, it has outdoes its competitors in a lot of
ways. They give great advice, have strong knowledge of their products and will ask you

several questions about what you’re looking for before they recommend a camera that
fits you and your needs. Even in my research I found that Best Buy has the best deals
compared to Wal-Mart and Target. Personally, I would buy my camera from Best Buy
because I am familiar with the store and they seem to be best. I would not buy it from
Wal-Mart due to the fact they are a super market and don’t specialize in electronics and
they may be more expensive.
After researching about buying a camera, I have learned what to look for in a
camera, the different types and where to buy one for the best price. Nikon is my favorite
brand, and I would rather have a simple point and shoot camera any day.
