Bolder FREE Sounds presents Button Accordion for NI Kontakt 2  We here at Bolder Sounds would like to show our appreciation to our loyal customers as well as celebrating the launch of our new web site (May 2008) with this Bolder FREE Sounds offering - a lovely sounding button accordion.  The button accordion was multi sampled approximately in minor 3rds. In the above photo you see the 2 rows of the melodic buttons (21 of them) and on the bottom you see a set of buttons which create octaves as well as other intervals. Two different notes are produced for each button depending on whether you are movin the bellows in or out (much like a harmonica).  These are 16 bit stereo samples (dithered from 24 bit) and the entire sample set is about 25 megabytes

  • About the Kontakt Keymapping

melodic buttons are mapped from D2 - G5

octave and intervallic buttons are mapped from F0-C2

  • Notes about the Kontakt programming

The most difcult aspect of sampling a instrument like an accordion is to capture that breath-like quality that occurs when the bellows are expanded and contracted. Ive yet to nd a satisfying solution to this dilemma.

As a work around I have programmed the pitch wheel of your controller to add a bit more volume as its value is increased and less volume when the wheel is pulled back toward you. Also routed to the modulation wheel (cc #1) is a very slight use of a highpas lter. If you experiment with these controllers you will nd it imparts somewhat of a breath like quality, but it does require some practice!

    Kontakt .nki instruments

Button Accord basic.nki - This is the default-basic set up. The Modulation Wheel controls a subtle highpass lter setting.

Button Accordion Room.nki - Same as above with a room reverb send effect.

But Acrd Slower Atk.nki - The AMP envelope has a slower attack.

Button Acrd Crisp ATK.exs - The attack on the AMP envelope is set to a faster speed as well as a shorter release.

But Ac Room Slower Atk.nki - Same as above with a room reverb.

But Ac Far Away+Slow.nki - An even slower attack with a surreal reverb effect.

But Accrd Crisp ATK.nki - A crisp faster attack, good for rapid passages.

Enjoy the button accordion!Dennis Burns - Bolder Sounds - May 2008
