Sewing Instructions1. Sew together (1) 4 ½” Fabric R square, (1) 4 ½” Fabric S square, (1) 4 ½” Fabric A square and (1) 4 ½” Fabric I square to make (1) RI strip. Sew together (1) 4 ½” Fabric M square, (1) 4 ½” Fabric H square, (1) 4 ½” Fabric Q square and (1) 4 ½” Fabric J square to make (1) MJ strip. Sew the MJ strip to the top of the RI strip to make (1) Block One strip (Fig. 1).

2. Repeat Step 1 and refer to Figure 2 for fabric identification and placement to make (1) Block Two strip.

3. Sew together (1) 4 ½” Fabric R square, (1) 4 ½” Fabric T square, (1) 4 ½” Fabric M square and (1) 4 ½” Fabric I square to make (1) RI strip. Sew together (1) 4 ½” Fabric G square, (1) 4 ½” Fabric H square, (1) 4 ½” Fabric O square and (1) 4 ½” Fabric J square to make (1) GJ strip. Sew the RI strip to the left side of the GJ strip to make (1) Block Three strip (Fig. 3).

4. Repeat Step 3 and refer to Figures 4-6 for fabric identification and placement to make (1) Block Four strip, (1) Block Five strip and (1) Block Six strip.

5. Place (1) 4 ½” Fabric D square on the left side of (1) 4 ½” x 8 ½” Fabric P strip, right sides together (Fig. 7). Sew across the diagonal of the square from the upper right corner to the lower left corner (Fig. 7). Flip open the triangle formed and press. Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle leaving a ¼” seam allowance (Fig. 8).

6. Place (1) 4 ½” Fabric C square on the right side of the 4 ½” x 8 ½” Fabric P strip, right sides together (Fig. 9). Sew across the diagonal of the square from the upper left corner to the lower right corner (Fig. 9). Flip open the triangle formed and press. Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle leaving a ¼” seam allowance to make (1) Unit 21 strip (Fig. 10). Repeat to make a second Unit 1 strip.

Unit 18. Place (1) 4 ½” Fabric W square on the top left corner of (1) 8 ½” Fabric J square, right sides together (Fig. 14). Sew across the diagonal of the smaller square from the upper right corner to the lower left corner (Fig. 14). Flip open the triangle formed and press. Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle ¼” away from the sewn seam (Fig. 15).

9. Follow Figure 16 for the seam direction to add a 4 ½” Fabric W square to each of the remaining corners of the 8 ½” Fabric J square to make (1) Unit 5 square (Fig. 17).

10. Repeat Steps 8-9 and refer to Figure 18 for fabric identification and placement to make (1) Unit 6 square.

11. Sew (1) Unit 2 strip to each side of (1) Unit 5 square to make (1) Middle Block Strip. Pay attention to the unit orientations. Sew (1) 4 ½” Fabric P square to each side of (1) Unit 1 strip to make (1) Top Block Strip. Pay attention to the unit orientation. Repeat to make (1) Bottom Block Strip. Sew the Top Block Strip and the Bottom Block Strip to the top and to the bottom of the Middle Block Strip to make (1) Block Seven square (Fig. 19).

Sew the Top Block Strip and the Bottom Block Strip to the top and to the bottom of the Middle Block Strip to make (1) Block Ten square (Fig. 34). Repeat to make (4) Block Ten squares total.

17. Sew (1) Unit 12 strip to each side of (1) Unit 17 square to make (1) Middle Block Strip. Pay attention to the unit orientations. Sew (1) 2 ½” Fabric L square to each side of (1) Unit 11 strip to make (1) Top Block Strip. Pay attention to the unit orientation. Repeat to make (1) Bottom Block Strip. Sew the Top Block Strip and the Bottom Block Strip to the top and to the bottom of the Middle Block Strip to make (1) Block Eleven square (Fig. 35). Repeat to make (4) Block Eleven squares total.

18. Sew (1) Unit 14 strip to each side of (1) Unit 18 square to make (1) Middle Block Strip. Pay attention to the unit orientations. Sew (1) 2 ½” Fabric O square to each side of (1) Unit 13 strip to make (1) Top Block Strip. Pay attention to the unit orientation. Repeat to make (1) Bottom Block Strip. Sew the Top Block Strip and the Bottom Block Strip to the top and to the bottom of the Middle Block Strip to make (1) Block Twelve square (Fig. 36). Repeat to make (4) Block Twelve squares total.

19. Sew together (1) Block Twelve to the left side of (1) Block Eleven square to make (1) Bottom Block Strip. Sew (1) Block Nine square to the left side of (1) Block Ten square to make (1) Top Block Strip. Sew the Top Block Strip to the Bottom Block Strip to make (1) Block Thirteen square (Fig. 37). Pay attention to the strip orientations.

20. Sew together (1) Block Twelve to the left side of (1) Block Nine square to make (1) Bottom Block Strip. Sew (1) Block Eleven square to the left side of (1) Block Ten square to make (1) Top Block Strip. Sew the Top Block Strip to the Bottom Block Strip to make (1) Block Fourteen square (Fig. 38). Pay attention to the strip orientations.

31. Sew (1) 2” x 65 ½” Fabric U strip to each side of the Center Block. Sew (1) 2” x 68 ½” Fabric U strip to the top and to the bottom of the Center Block to make the quilt top.

32. Layer and quilt as desired.

33. Sew the (7) 2 ½” x WOF Fabric U strips together, end to end with 45-degree seams, to make the binding. Fold this long strip in half lengthwise with wrong sides together and press.

Quilt Top Assembly (Refer to the Quilt Layout while assembling.)21. Sew together (1) Block Nine square, (1) Block One strip, (1) Block Ten square, (1) Block Eleven square and (1) Block Twelve square to make Row One. Pay attention to the Block One orientation.

22. Sew together (1) Block Three strip, (1) Block Seven square, (1) Block Four strip and (1) Block Thirteen square to make Row Two. Pay attention to the block orientations.

23. Sew together (1) Block Fourteen square, (1) Block Five strip, (1) Block Eight square and (1) Block Six strip to make Row Three. Pay attention to the block orientations.

24. Sew together (1) Block Ten square, (1) Block Eleven square, (1) Block Twelve square, (1) Block Two strip and (1) Block Nine square to make Row Four. Pay attention to the Block Two orientation.

25. Sew the (4) Rows together, in numerical order, to make the Center Block.

26. Sew (1) 1 ½” x 48 ½” Fabric U strip to each side of the Center Block. Sew (1) 1 ½” x 50 ½” Fabric U strip to the top and to the bottom of the Center Block.

27. Center (1) 8” x 69” Fabric V strip on one side of the Center Block. Start sewing the strip a ¼” from the top edge of the Center Block and stop a ¼” from the bottom edge. DO NOT TRIM THE EXCESS. Repeat with the opposite side.

28. Repeat Step 27 to sew (1) 8” x 69” Fabric V strip to the top and (1) 8” x 69” Fabric V strip to the bottom of the Center Block, making sure to stop and start ¼” away from each end of the Center Block.

29. To miter each corner, fold the Center Block on a diagonal wrong side together. This should line up the strips from adjacent sides (Fig. 39).

30. Starting at the sewn seam (represented by the arrow in Figure 39) draw a 45-degree line out to the edge of the fabric. Sew on the drawn line. Trim the excess fabric leaving a ¼” seam. Repeat this step with the remaining corners.
