The paint system of Clean COLORBOND® steel is specially formulated with “Clean” technology to resist dirt staining in tropical climates for longer lasting beautiful buildings. This incredibly durable coating is the finest finish in the industry.

Butler Certifications & Performance Assurance Testing

Butler has obtained a number of certifications worldwide which attest to its commitment to quality and system performance. Certifications attained include the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), Factory Mutual (FM), Underwriters Laboratories (UL), Metal Building Manufacturers Association (MBMA), US Army Corps of Engineers, and International Conference of Building Officials (ICBO).

Quality control practices are harmonized among our Butler manufacturing plants including Butler Shanghai, Butler Tianjin, Butler Guangzhou and Butler Thailand, obtaining ISO 9001-Quality Management System Certification.

Global Butler projects such as RR Donnelly, Tajima and General Motors in Shanghai received awards for their steel structural design (Golden Steel Project Awards and Steel Structure Golden Award).

Underwriters Laboratories U.L. 580 Tests for Uplift Resistance of Roof AssembliesThe MR-24® roof system carries the highest wind uplift rating (Class 90) awarded by the Underwriters Laboratories.

The U.L. test is an excellent gauge to compare any roof deck to a standard, conducted on 10-feet (3.05m) panel lengths with the perimeter of the test area anchored. The test provides a comparative index of all types of roof assemblies with respect to uplift resistance, and relative loading capacity of Class 30, 60 or 90.

Factory Mutual Approval Standard 4471The MR-24® roof system has been tested by Factory Mutual and is listed in the FM Approval Guide for Class 1 Panel Roofs. It can be designed and supplied to meet the FM Uplift Ratings of 1-60, 1-90, 1-120 through to 1-165.

The MR-24® roof system can withstand wind speeds in excess of 290 kph, and has also been tested for hail damage resistance, fire spread and foot traffic. The specific rating will affect the gauge and purlin spacing of the system that is provided. FM Approval is used to reduce insurance rates on projects insured by a Factory Mutual insurance company.

The Butler Research Center founded in 1959 performs quality control tests of materials, components and systems. The use of sophisticated environmental testing equipment enables the research center to predict actual field performance of a system, and ensures that BUTLER® systems are evaluated on an ongoing basis in compliance with Zero Defect and specific FM Global requirements. Actual 8x10 sq feet (7.4 m2) roof assemblies are tested in the BUTLER® Guarded Hot Box to provide accurate insulating information, rather than theoretical data, ensuring the BUTLER® building delivers the energy efficiency we promise.

Perfect AlignmentAll roof panels and structural members of the MR-24® roof system are factory-punched to assure proper alignment and weather-tightness, as well as the accurate installation of closures, roof accessories and trim.

The Pittsburgh Double-lock SeamOnly the MR-24® roof system seams are mechanically field-rolled 180 degrees to complete a 360-degree Pittsburgh double-lock seam. Other manufacturers simply crimp or snap the seams into place, forming a loose, vulnerable seal. This unique MR-24® seam virtually eliminates roof leaks.

Staggered Panel SplicesLocating panel splices at the same position across the roof makes it almost impossible to seal and protect against leaks. The MR-24® roof system eliminates this problem with staggered panel splices. All splices are located over supporting steel to reinforce vulnerable areas, as opposed to mid-air splices common with other manufacturers.

Fully-Integrated Roof Accessories(Refer to page 13 for more details)

Studies show that 90% of roof leaks are due to poorly designed or installed roof penetrations. The MR-24 roof system comes with a complete range of accessories, including roof penetrations and trims, fully engineered at the factory to fit seamlessly and weather-tight into the system to eliminate misalignment and eradicate leaks.

10 11

Staggered panel splices prevent exposed seams and assure weather-tightness.

Taking precision factory engineering to the next level, the BUTLER® building system also comes with a complete range of accessories fully engineered at the factory to fit seamlessly, and weather-tight, into the MR-24® roof system.

The difference is in the details of the MR-24® roof system!

Energy SavingsBecause the MR-24® roof system is metal and moves freely with the forces of expansion and contraction, additional insulation thicknesses that can bring about energy savings will not cause roof deterioration as commonly happens with conventional built-up roofs.

Engineered for thermal expansion and contraction

Wind Uplift ResistanceThe MR-24® roof system carries the highest UL wind uplift rating (Class 90). It has also been approved by FM Global as a Class 1 Panel roof, which may help lower your insurance costs with a Factory Mutual insurance company.

10-year Weather-Tightness WarrantyIt stands to reason the industry’s best roof also offers the industry’s best warranty. The MR-24® roof system is available with a 10-year weather-tightness warranty.

Factory PunchingAssures Fast and Precise Installation

Factory punched roof panels and structural members eliminate misalignments and enable accurate installation of closures, roof accessories and trim.

Roof Clips Designed to MoveThe MR-24® Roof Easily Expands and Contracts

The MR-24® clip allows the roof to expand and contract with changing temperatures. This mobility prevents stress at the clips, fasteners and splices, which could otherwise make the roof vulnerable to leaks and wind damage.

Supported Panel End SplicesReinforce Vulnerable Areas

Splices are created when two roof panels must be joined together. Most manufacturers allow mid-air splices, resulting in stress under roof traffic or heavy snow. The BUTLER® system eliminates this problem by locating splices directly over supporting steel.

Integrated Gable TrimDesigned for Thermal Expansion and Contraction

The gable trim is also designed to expand and contract with daily and seasonal temperature changes. It becomes an integral part of the roof system and improves performance and durability.

Flexible Ridge DesignPerformance in Every Detail

The MR-24® roof system ridge also moves to accommodate expansion and contraction. Our proven ridge design “caps off” the MR-24® roof system.

Roof Curb OpeningsPrecision Engineering

Studies show that 90% of roof leaks are due to poorly designed or installed roof penetrations. Every BUTLER® roof curb and opening is fully engineered at the factory so there is no field engineering. Unlike the exposed fastener designs other manufacturers use, BUTLER’s internal flange design conceals fasteners within the curb and eliminates leaks.

Translucent Roof & Wall Lite PanelOver time, industry standard light transmitting roof panels turn yellow and brittle and start to deteriorate after just a few years. This results in leaks and high maintenance costs. The Lite Panels that come with your BUTLER® building are made of translucent, colourless, thermosetting and unsaturated polyester resin with thoroughly impregnated glass-fibre reinforcement. In addition, a Tedlar coating prevents ultraviolet deterioration. They won’t turn yellow or brittle, allowing minimum rate of light transmission up to 75% (uninsulated) and 60% (insulated).

The Lite Panel completely matches the width and corrugation of MR-24® roof sheets with steel panel at two sides of the Lite Panel, so it can finish the 360 degree Pittsburgh double-lock standing seam with adjoining steel panel.

Pipe FlashingThese one-piece units create a weather-tight seal and are able to withstand an extreme range of temperature.
