Chapman, Pearson Objectives: This course will introduce fundamental principles for designing, planning and controlling production systems. This course provides basic understanding of production planning concepts: Forecasting, Scheduling, Allocation of Resources, Inventory Control, and Lean Production. This course will also highlight the importance of production planning and control concepts in a company’s strategic business plan. This course will help the student in understanding and defining production planning problems, measuring performance of production planning systems, analyzing production planning data, and identifying improvements for production planning & control systems. Textbook: Fundamentals of Production Planning & Control, 1/e, by Stephen N. Chapman, Pearson

Objectives: This course will introduce fundamental principles for designing, planning and controlling production systems. This course provides basic understanding of production planning concepts: Forecasting, Scheduling, Allocation of Resources, Inventory Control, and Lean Production. This course will also highlight the importance of production planning and control concepts in a company’s strategic business plan.

This course will help the student in understanding and defining production planning problems, measuring performance of production planning systems, analyzing production planning data, and identifying improvements for production planning & control systems.

This course will equip the students with a basic understanding of the tools and techniques used for production planning and control in the modern business environment. The idea is to build confidence in the students to make full use of these methodologies during their professional careers or for future research work.

Attendance: Minimum 85% attendance is mandatory in all business classes

Team Project: Team-based project/s will be assigned to gain practical understanding of the Production Planning & Control tools and techniques taught in the classTeams will be formed early in the semester (by the instructor)The team must submit a formal PROPOSAL for any project/s Upon approval of the proposal, the team can start working on the projectThe team MUST submit meeting minutes on a weekly basisA formal report MUST be submitted by each group on an agreed upon dateEach team member MUST participate in the final project presentationProject grades will be based upon: Research, Nature of work undertaken, Organization and planning, Results achieved, Report writing, Understanding of instructor’s requirements, Presentation, etc.

Plagiarism/Cheating: Plagiarism or cheating is not allowed in this class during the quizzes, exams, homework, and projects. If caught cheating, your case could be sent to the Ethics Committee with recommendations for expulsion from the Business Program
