“In 2010, the smartest brands realized that the model is not 360, it's 365.
This means thinking editorially, reacting in real time and engaging in reciprocal conversations with ‘people’ (previously known as ‘consumers’) to distribute content that feels generous, useful and personalized.
As Contagious has always said, the best brands are those that see themselves as networks which can connect like-minded people around shared interests and causes.”

7
It’s a fundamental shift in the way we behaveand communicate.
![Page 8: Business Week 2011 - Latos](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022061221/54bf70974a79599b0e8b457b/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)

Evolution of a MegaphoneA short history of advertising up to the era of Social Media
![Page 9: Business Week 2011 - Latos](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022061221/54bf70974a79599b0e8b457b/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
9
In the beginning of advertising…
![Page 10: Business Week 2011 - Latos](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022061221/54bf70974a79599b0e8b457b/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
10
The first “marketer” used a megaphone to advertise his goods!
![Page 11: Business Week 2011 - Latos](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022061221/54bf70974a79599b0e8b457b/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
11
…a few “consumers” gathered to listen. But the marketer needed more “reach”.
![Page 12: Business Week 2011 - Latos](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022061221/54bf70974a79599b0e8b457b/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
12
Then posters covered the streets…
![Page 13: Business Week 2011 - Latos](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022061221/54bf70974a79599b0e8b457b/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
13
…and outdoor advertising created more reach. But it wasn’t enough.
![Page 14: Business Week 2011 - Latos](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022061221/54bf70974a79599b0e8b457b/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
14
Newspapers and magazines informed the world.
![Page 15: Business Week 2011 - Latos](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022061221/54bf70974a79599b0e8b457b/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
15
By placing ads in print, the marketer reached even more. Again and again…
![Page 16: Business Week 2011 - Latos](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022061221/54bf70974a79599b0e8b457b/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
16
Then radio came along. A medium, that could reach, inform and entertain more.
![Page 17: Business Week 2011 - Latos](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022061221/54bf70974a79599b0e8b457b/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
17
So the marketer interrupted shows with radio spots. Again and again and again…
![Page 18: Business Week 2011 - Latos](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022061221/54bf70974a79599b0e8b457b/html5/thumbnails/18.jpg)
18
Technology then brought us the most powerful medium of them all. Television.
![Page 19: Business Week 2011 - Latos](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022061221/54bf70974a79599b0e8b457b/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)
19
So more shows were interrupted by more TV commercials, again and again...
![Page 20: Business Week 2011 - Latos](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022061221/54bf70974a79599b0e8b457b/html5/thumbnails/20.jpg)
20
Until one day…
![Page 21: Business Week 2011 - Latos](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022061221/54bf70974a79599b0e8b457b/html5/thumbnails/21.jpg)
21
…a wonderful machine was placed in the hands of the consumer.
![Page 22: Business Week 2011 - Latos](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022061221/54bf70974a79599b0e8b457b/html5/thumbnails/22.jpg)
22
It was simple. The first thing the marketer did, was to place banner ads online.
![Page 23: Business Week 2011 - Latos](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022061221/54bf70974a79599b0e8b457b/html5/thumbnails/23.jpg)
23
Until a “second” day… People started talking back!
![Page 24: Business Week 2011 - Latos](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022061221/54bf70974a79599b0e8b457b/html5/thumbnails/24.jpg)
24
…and other people listened…
![Page 25: Business Week 2011 - Latos](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022061221/54bf70974a79599b0e8b457b/html5/thumbnails/25.jpg)
25
…and talked to each other, about things they were interested in and engaged with.
![Page 26: Business Week 2011 - Latos](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022061221/54bf70974a79599b0e8b457b/html5/thumbnails/26.jpg)
