Business Source CompleteThe Terminology:
NAICS/Industry code -- North American Industry Classification System (NAICS)?
A. NAICS is a new (July 2001) industry classification system designed to replace the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC). The new system classifies economic units with similar production processes in the same industry. NAICS was developed jointly by the three North American countries - Canada, Mexico and the United States, in response to criticism about the SIC, to reflect changes in the global economy, including the rapid growth of service and technology-based industries, and to provide a comparable classification system for the three countries. NAICS identifies nine new service industry sectors and 358 new industries.
The 2007 NAICS listing can be found at www.census.gov. The link is about half way down the page under “Business and Industry”.
DUNS number -- DUNS stands for "Data Universal Numbering System." It is a unique nine-digit numbering system that is used to identify a business.
Ticker symbol -- A stock symbol or ticker symbol is a mnemonic used to uniquely identify publicly-traded shares of a corporation on a particular stock market. A stock symbol may consist of letters, numbers or a combination of both. The word "ticker" used to mean "ticker symbol" is specific to U.S. stock symbols.
