Rail service

One service that makes Alton Materials different from other scrap

metal recyclers is the availability of our specially trained profes-

sional rail crews for our rail contractor, steel mill, and Class One

and Short-line railroad customers. These crews perform rail take-

up and rail clean-up, as well as rail identification, along mainlines

of railroads. We also manage our time on the job according to

“track time,” so that we can work in the most time-efficient

manner possible.

On-site assessment

It all starts with a friendly handshake and two

face-to-face meetings at your facility. During

our visits, we’ll tour the site and discuss the

process of your production while identifying

all materials generated and how they are cur-

rently being sorted.

We’ll waste no time formulating a scrap management plan built

specifically to your needs. While we’re there, we will determine

the most appropriate services and equipment we can provide to

streamline your process. We’ll also tell you all about our goals for

handling your scrap materials so you can get a better idea of just

what we can do for you.

We’re confident you’ll see the benefits in competence and value

you’ll see in comparison to your current handling of the scrap

you’ve generated.

Once we know the kinds of scrap you will be

generating and its condition, we’ll build a

pricing plan focused on getting you the most

money for your materials. Our close ties with

some of the Midwest’s largest steel mills and

ability to process your materials at our own

facilities gives us the competitive advantage

necessary to find the best price each and

every time.

Every price you get from Alton Materials is a fair one. We bid

all scrap materials based upon The American Metal Market (10th

edition) for each month. We also provide total transparency when

it comes to our pricing. You’ll see exactly how we came to the

price we’re giving you through written formulas.

We won’t stop there, either. We continually update our custom-

ers on any current market pricing changes and provide forecasts

before new pricing is issued each month. We also provide com-

plete market analysis and weight tracking throughout the year so

our customers can monitor the cycle of scrap pricing trends for

themselves. That way, they can stay informed on the value of their

scrap materials while getting the fairest, most competitive price

available.

Competitive pricing

Fair, honest pricing that doesn’t require a math scholar to understand. That’s how we do business.
