The Blossoming

of Flower Teas:

Lim Jian Bin.

PictureA curious mind with a natural instinct for

business, this is what drives him to start his

own empire. Lim Jian Bian, 26 years old, has

been doing business from the age of teenage

age of 17.

DuringDuring his polytechnic days, in Nanyang

Polytechnic, studying retail management, he

would venture into different types of

businesses while his friends were

concentrating studying.

AfterAfter receiving his double degree from

Murdoch University in Perth, double major in

hospitality and tourism management and

marketing management, Lim was determined

to be his own boss. He dislikes the ordeal of

being scrutinized constantly by future bosses.

Lim yearns for freedom and working at his own

pace, pace, and also wishes to provide unique and

different services to his customers.

The inspiration for Lim’s latest business idea,

Hi-Tea started off when daringly ventured

into countries such as Taiwan and Malaysia.

He discovered the lack of establishment of

flower teas in Singapore while other

countries such as Malaysia are popular for

that. At the same time, his wife has a love for

flowerflower tea, which encourages him to bring in

the business into Singapore.

In Singapore, the usual favourites of the local

for flower tea or also known as, herbal tea

are usually chrysanthemum tea and

peppermint tea. Singapore’s herbal teas are

mainly sold in traditional Chinese medicine

shops and sold in packs, which required

consumers to prepare themselves. This

methodmethod would usually ends up with different

taste variation of the tea due to consumer’s

poor estimation.
