“There is no end to education. It is not that you read a book, pass an
examination, and finish with education. The whole of life, from the
moment you are born to the moment you die, is a process of
learning. “
Jiddu Krishnamurti
Workshop on Business Intelligence using IBM Cognos BI is a 3 days course . This
course is designed to impart the fundamental understanding of Business Intelligence
and Data Warehouse supports provided to the participants. From a Data Warehouse
perspective, the course gives an overview of the mechanisms used to build a Data
Warehouse. From a Business Intelligence perspective, it covers some analysis
techniques such as OLAP and data mining. After this course participant can access
reports, analysis, dashboards, scoreboards, scorecards, planning and budgets, real-
time information, statistics and manage information for more informed decisions. Also
participants can work within a highly scalable and extensible solution that can adapt to
the changing needs of IT and the business with flexible deployment options that include
the cloud, mainframes and data warehousing applications.

Taking into account the latest trend practiced in industry in developing projects,
Atharva College of Engineering , Mumbai, purchased IBM SEED to bridge the gap
between academics and industry and make our student industry-ready.
Organizations are pressured constantly to understand and react quickly to information.
With a capable and efficient business intelligence solution, all levels of an organization
can receive information how, when, and where they need it to make faster and better
aligned decisions. Many organizations often satisfy this complexity and these diverse
demands with a number of point solutions. With IBM Cognos Business Intelligence (BI)
solutions, you can satisfy needs throughout the user community and ensure that
everyone can work and collaborate from a consistent set of data. In addition, IT is
simplified with fewer components to
deploy, manage, and maintain.
On the first day of FDP, Mr.
Vickee Chichghare addressed
the faculties about the need of
keeping up with technology and
the importance of using IBM
Cogno’ Software while
developing the projects
Dr.S. P. Kallurkar, Principal , Atharva
College of Engineering emphasised that all
the faculties should ensure that they make use
of this FDP as a platform to develop projects
guided by them using this tool.
The sessions started with the basics of Data

Warehouse and database concepts and then all the understanding of the IBM
Cognos 10 BI tool was done with the help of a case study. At last some lab
assignment was given. All the four days involved theory as well practical sessions
and more importance was given to hands-on sessions.
Day 2 started with an Introduction of Report Studio followed by Report generation by
using filters and calculations.Graphical Data Representation was also covered during
the session. The day 3 has covered task related to Framework Manager followed by
task of designing Presentation View of a report .
The speaker gave a clear picture of importance of Database & Datawarehouse in
industry while developing projects. He discussed the various methods of generating
reports. He also discussed the various challenges faced during the development of the
project in industry and in result how this tool overcome all the challenges in project
development.
Feedback by faculties
The feedback of the faculty was extremely positive. They were grateful for being
granted such a great opportunity of getting this vast amount of knowledge and learning
from Industry expert.
Participation
All the faculties from Department of Computer Engineering and Information
Technology Participated in the FDP. There are some faculty members from outside
organization also involved in this training program.
