Through the Business Incubator Center, Salim, a respective farmer figure in Gayam village, has helped develop local farmers in his village to enhance crop yields and increase profits. In 2009, he started to work as a flagman for Banyu Urip infrastructure facilities project in Gayam. Though he mostly spent time working in the project as a flagman, he still put a deep concern to the communities’ development in his village. That concern lead him to join the Business Incubator Center. Through various training and consultation sessions, the center has equipped him with the skill and knowledge of efficient agricultural practices. Those practices have improved the quantity and quality of crops such as red onion, cabbage and mustard, which eventually increase his profits. The Business Incubator Center is an economic development program supported by ExxonMobil Indonesia in partnership with Bina Swadaya Foundation. Established in Bojonegoro, where Banyu Urip oil field operated by ExxonMobil Indonesia is located, the center aims to help boost the local businesses focusing in agribusiness. Launched in 2014, the center has now benefitted over 650 entrepreneurs from 12 villages in Gayam and two villages in Kalitidu sub-district. The Business Incubator Center not only provides entrepreneurship opportunities, but also helps change the community’s mindset towards entrepreneurship as a promising occupation. Young members of the community in their productive age and also housewives participated in the training and mentoring activities within the center. The farming activities conducted in their own houses are expected to reduce household expenses. Moreover, the center has also helped 100 new entrepreneurs to boost the production of mushroom up to 300-500 kilograms per day during harvest season. Salim is one of the beneficiaries who has implemented the knowledge and skills from the center to his own agricultural practices. Now, he cultivates the farmland left by his parents to grow his own agribusiness. With the new skills he learned from the Business Incubator Center, his yields increased up to 20 percent. “By joining the center, I learned a lot of new things related to agricultural techniques. Before, I knew nothing about agriculture but now I can manage my own land and maximize the yields for my family’s income,” he said. Nowadays, Salim is also helping other farmers in his village through the Business Incubator Center. Lahir dan dibesarkan di Kecamatan Gayam, Bojonegoro, Jawa Timur, Salim mempunyai mimpi besar untuk kemajuan desanya. Pada tahun 2009, ia mulai bekerja sebagai flagman untuk fasilitas infrastruktur Proyek Banyu Urip.
Meski sebagian besar waktunya dihabiskan untuk bekerja di proyek, Salim masih memiliki perhatian besar akan potensi desanya. Hal tersebut yang kemudian membuatnya bergabung ke dalam Pusat Inkubasi Bisnis (PIB). Melalui berbagai pelatihan dan konsultasi, PIB memberikannya ilmu dan keahlian akan cara bertani yang baik dan efisien. Cara-cara tersebut meningkatkan kuantitas dan kualitas hasil panen seperti bawang merah, kembang kol dan sawi yang pada akhirnya meningkatkan keuntungan.
Program Pusat Inkubasi Bisnis Bojonegoro (PIB) merupakan program pengembangan ekonomi yang didukung oleh ExxonMobil Indonesia bermitra dengan Yayasan Bina Swadaya. Dilaksanakan di Bojonegoro, di mana Lapangan Minyak Banyu Urip yang dioperasikan oleh ExxonMobil Indonesia berada, PIB bertujuan untuk membantu meningkatkan usaha masyarakat setempat berfokus di bidang agribisnis. Dibentuk pada tahun 2014, PIB kini telah memberi manfaat kepada lebih dari 650 pengusaha dari 12 desa di Kecamatan Gayam dan dua desa di Kecamatan Kalitidu.
Kehadiran PIB tidak hanya memberikan peluang usaha, tetapi merubah pola pikir masyarakat bahwa wirausaha adalah profesi yang menjanjikan. Pemuda desa dengan usia produktif serta para ibu rumah tangga turut berpartisipasi dalam
kegiatan pelatihan dan pendampingan di PIB. Kegiatan pertanian yang dapat dilakukan di rumah kemudian diharapkan dapat mengurangi pengeluaran rumah tangga. Selain itu, PIB turut membantu 100 wirausahawan baru untuk meningkatkan produksi jamur mencapai 300-500 kilogram per hari selama musim panen.
Salim sendiri merupakan salah satu penerima manfaat dari program ini. Dengan menerapkan ilmu dan keahlian yang didapatkan di PIB, kini ia telah mempu menggarap lahan pertanian yang ditinggalkan oleh orang tuanya. Keahlian baru tersebut kemudian mampu meningkatkan hasil panennya hingga 20 persen.
“Di PIB, banyak ilmu pertanian baru yang saya dapatkan. Dulu saya tidak tahu sama sekali cara bertani yang baik, namun sekarang, saya dapat menggarap sendiri lahan yang saya punya untuk mendapatkan hasil yang maksimal,” ujarnya.
Kini, Salim aktif membina para petani yang tergabung di PIB. Banyak dari mereka yang sering bertanya dan meminta saran terkait cara bercocok tanam kepada Salim.
“Melalui kegiatan di PIB, saya ingin terus berkontribusi kepada masyarakat sekitar untuk membantu mengembangkan desa Gayam.”
Melalui Pusat Inkubasi Bisnis, Salim, tokoh petani di Desa Gayam, telah banyak membantu mengembangkan petani lokal di desanya untuk meningkatkan hasil panen dan pendapatan.
