The City of Gahanna is in an exciting period in its history. We have experienced significant amount of investment from the private sector over the past several years. Specifically, the private sector invested an astonishing

$100 per minute in 2014. That translates to over $52 million invested in Gahanna. A total of 269 residential units were added to the City last year alone, which is significant if you consider that the City only added 1047 homes between 2000 and 2010. What is driving this investment? How does it impact you and your business? These are some of the questions that we will answer at the Chamber’s Bridge to the City event.

In addition, the City is in the process of creating a plan to guide our economic development efforts for the next five years. With the help of industry leading experts, this plan will identify our community’s strengths and identify where we need to improve in order to grow and remain economically sustainable. These experts will be on hand to provide a summary of the findings from this study and show some preliminary recommendations that will have a great impact on our community.

Panel Discussion

How do you find the right people to work in your business? How do you keep the right people working on your business, and how do you have to let go the ones that don’t work out? These aren’t easy questions to answer, and they are probably the hardest three questions facing owners today. This month our panel of business owner’s will address these hard issues, and how they personally have encountered these situations. We will talk about the hard facts when it comes to finding the right people to work for your business. We will discuss strategies in each of these key areas of running a successful business in today’s economy.

Our panelists for this discussion will be Kristina Reed from RevLocal, who works everyday in Human Resources for one of the fastest growing companies in Central Ohio, Ken DiBella from Success Imperatives, who has owned several companies in his corporate career, and James Green from Ohio Exteriors, who has grown his Gahanna based business into one of the most respected in his industry through developing the people that work for him.

So come with your questions to the workshop on May 20, held at SOH Productions, 501 Morrison Road, Suite 205. A box lunch will be provided. $5 Members - $6 Guests

A NOTE FROM THE AMBASSADOR COMMITTEE

CHAIRMAN Social media can augment when time and distance are issues, but you can’t replace face-to-face communication.

-Erik Qualman, author of Socialnomics and Digital Leader

Become an Ambassador

Do you know your fellow Chamber members? Who are your very best prospects? How long has it been since you visited them to discuss their needs?

We all have busy schedules and many legitimate reasons for not taking the time to meet face to face with customers. Technology makes it simple, and instantly gratifying, to interface with one another. Social media can be a great platform for business communication. Yet, social media does not replace what you can gain by visiting or having a phone conversation with a potential customer.

Primarily, clients care that you take the time and effort to come to them and have a discussion. It indicates that you value their time and relationship and shows you are willing to learn more about their operations. Furthermore, you can learn facts when you are face to face that you cannot learn any other way. Most importantly, face to face interaction is the foundation of a real business relationship; the type of business relationship we Ambassadors seek to develop with our fellow Chamber members.

We are seeking professionals who are passionate about Gahanna and their businesses. The Ambassador Committee is comprised of volunteers who connect with members face to face to further engage businesses in conversations about their individual needs and to ask one simple question: How can the Chamber help you?

In an effort- to assist our local business community as well as the City of Gahanna Planning & Development Department, Ambassadors get to see each Chamber member in their business environment, check out their facility, meet the people who work there, and experience the company culture. You’ll develop long-lasting business relationships and will uncover opportunities which can be beneficial to all.

The Ambassador Committee offers a friendly environment and monthly brand exposure incentives. We meet the first Thursday of every month for one hour. In essence, Ambassadors serve as the retention specialists for the Chamber.

To join our team, please contact (614) 471-0451.

Yours truly,

Emanuel Torres

Ambassador Committee Chairman

Gahanna Jefferson Public Schools – Noteworthy News

The Gahanna-Jefferson financial team was recognized for their hard work with a rather prestigious award from the State of Ohio Auditor’s Office. The Gahanna-Jefferson treasurer’s department was just part of just five percent of public entities in the state who qualify for this recognition, known as the Auditor of the State Award with Distinction.

Tim Kraft, a representative from the auditor’s office, noted that this is the highest award the can be received, and reflects a clean audit report on behalf of the district. The office audits approximately 5,800 public entities each year.

“This wouldn’t have been possible without our staff performing their duties at such a high level on a daily basis,” said Julio Valladares, treasurer, Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools.

Congratulations to the following students at Eastland Career Center, who were invited to become members of the National Technical Honor Society this year. These GLHS students are three of just 29 students enrolled at Eastland-Fairfield to receive this honor!
