• Very experienced staff at all levels• - Head EVC since 2003 (twice revalidated)• - All staff Worcestershire CC Visit Leader

Storyline …Storyline …• Feb half-term ski visit to Aosta (Interski)• Group of 78+10 staff – transported in 2 coaches• Began return journey c1930, after evening meal on
Saturday 18th Feb• Leader and Deputy on different coaches• Planning expectation that coaches would travel in
convoy but this did not happen• Leader died when coach 2 overturned around 0300
Sunday 19th. Other serious injuries• Emergency contact details were scattered in
wreckage – duplicates were on coach 1• Coach 1 unaware of coach 2 problems

All visits are required to have:• School Emergency Contact (SEC) – 24 / 7 if visit is

- SEC• CBC Duty Emergency Planning Officer (DEPO)
RecommendationsRecommendations• At least two copies of the Field File to be held on
each coach.• All adults to carry phone numbers of the Group
Leader, Supervisors and School Emergency Contact.
• Recommendations to be posted on EVOLVE• EVC and Group Leader training to include
specific training with regard to dealing with emergencies
• SEC to be trained / briefed in the role

The School Emergency Contact must:
• Be able to make difficult phone calls.• Be able to advise the Group Leader.• Be familiar with their establishment Emergency Plan.• Understand when and how to contact the CBC DEPO.• Have copies of all visit documentation.• Be in contact with the premises key - holder
