Sinful Cravings was the name that we gave our stall. We had decided to sell ice cream and

float considering the fact that ice cream is one of the most common cravings for every single

person (mostly.....). We started the planning and preparation approximately one week before

the carnival. However, the stall decorations, stocks and the planning for the methods of sale

were done two days before the carnival.

We received assistance from the MSA committee, the RM200 modal received was used to

start of the business. Initially, we had spent the money we had on primary supplies such as

ice creams, root beer and condiments. We then used the remaining money to buy the cups,

straws, spoons and etc. At the end of the day, about RM 180 was used and the remaining

modal was kept in case of emergency.

On the first day, dated 3rd March 2010, we started early at 8.00am by hanging up the stall

decorations and adjusting the menu that we had prepared a day earlier. We spent about an

hour setting up the stall until it was suitable to be visited by customers. At first, we

encountered problems as we had to chill the ice cream but we did not have a refrigerator.

However, the problem was solved when we got a mini cooler to store the ice cream. Finally,

the group was divided into two with one section organising the float while another managing

the ice cream. The ice cream was priced at RM 2.00 for two scoops and RM 3.00 for three

scoops. The float was priced at RM 2.00 per cup. At about 10.00am, we opened the stall to

customers, gaining our first ice cream sale.

At the beginning, we had a slow start due to poor advertising and bad location compared

to other stalls. We knew we needed an uppercut compared to the other stall. We assigned our

group members to wall around and promote our stall. To make things even better, we got

ourselves small decorated trays filled with our appetizers and made sales while moving

around the college grounds. Our plan was successful to increase sales and attract more

customers. Next thing we knew, we were out of stocks. However, we solved this conflict by

sending a few handy group members to get our stock the nearest supplier. To avoid the same

conflict on the next day, we got ourselves extra stocks. By the end of the first day, we

managed to collect profits amounting to RM 286. This was a satisfying amount as we had at

least managed to cover up the initial start up costs. Nevertheless, we still aimed to collect

more profit the next day.

For the second day, we arrived early as usual at 8.00am and re-decorated the stall just like

the first day. We added some extra touches as well, based on the customer’s preferences as

observed on the first day. Like the first day, we started off slow. This was probably due the

fact that appetizers are not really consumable in the morning. So we waited till afternoon,

which was the peak time for appetizers. As it was approaching about 2.00pm we had a sharp

increase in sales. The ice cream was selling fast and customers from all faculties’ could be

seen. We also increased our efficiency and started to improvise more on our methods of

selling. In a bid to finish all our stocks and yield maximum profit, we introduced new kinds

of bargains and slightly reduced some of the items prices with proper consideration. We also

moved around with trays as in the first day with successful results. Approximately about

4.00pm, we managed to sell off all our products and finally closed the stall.

Before we left, we also tried out the carnival games and enjoyed its delicious food while

waiting for all our coupons which were sold out to be called in the lucky draw. We then

cleaned the stall by dividing the work and restored the condition of the location to its original

state before the carnival.

By the end of the day, we had collected a profit of RM 214 totalling the gross profit to

RM 500. As this amount was enough to cover our initial costs and expenses, we managed to

reach the main objective of the carnival. All in all, the business assignment which was part of

the carnival was a success for our group.
