Appendix 2 – Future nowYou will see below a table of existing available traineeships, linked to current qualifications. However the Training Package review of 2015/16 (which we discussed at our last Industry Advisory Group meeting) means that these traineeships will be associated with the new replacement qualifications listed going forward. All new qualifications have been deemed equivalent to those they replace, meaning they result in the same job outcomes, are of the same duration and at the same level:

I include the Arts Administrator (Level 3) traineeship as we have discussed the possibility that this qualification will be reviewed in the future and could be useful in a number of applications. When a qualification associated with a traineeship is significantly updated, the traineeship must be rigorously reviewed including with extensive industry consultation. So bear in mind that this abbreviated process reflects the position of the Training Package developers that changes to these qualifications do not substantially alter the outcome of associated traineeships.FutureNow are seeking your position on the proposal to update the existing traineeships listed above to be associated with the new qualifications listed. Could I please request all feedback by COB Tuesday 19th July 2016. I will be on annual leave next week but will keep an eye out for responses so please continue to send any requests to me.

Kind Regards, Ann-Marie Ryan Project Manager - Creative Industries

Subject: Nominal Duration of Traineeship in Library and Information Services Traineeship (Level 4)Hi Ann, In response to your query about Nominal Duration of Traineeship in Library and Information Services Traineeship (Level 4). Could we please have some additional information about this course:

Who is running it?        Level of achievement?        Job prospects – ie. what qualifications will students exit with?        Where does it fit with the National courses?

Appendix 3 – LOWe have recently been contacted by numerous Members asking for advice in relation to the level of Duty Of Care they are directed to take on in Schools. As a result of this, we have written to Cliff Gillam at the Education Department, asking him to communicate your rights to each School Principal.

It is important for all our Members to understand their rights. As a Level 1 or 2 School Officer and a Library Officer Level 1, you have only a general level of duty of care for students. This means you should not be supervising Students alone. A Level 2 Library Officer can supervise small groups of students, however this does not mean you should be taking a full class.

We have attached the letter we sent to Cliff Gillam, please read over it and keep a copy for your records.

If you find yourself in a situation in which you are being directed to take on an elevated duty of care, we request you do the following.

1. Email your Principal advising you do not accept supervision of Students- we have included a temptate for you to use

Dear XXXXX,

I am emailing you in relation to the current level of duty of care I am expected to accept.

I have recently been advised I am under no obligation to supervise Students, and am concerned a continuation of this practice may indicate an acceptance which is not intended to be given.

As a result I am formally advising you I will no longer be able to continue the practice of (XXXXXXXXXXX- Indicate the practice you are undertaking).

I am more than happy to consult with you in order to ensure a new process is implemented, and am of course happy to continue to assist Senior Staff with supervision of Students, however I cannot be solely responsible for this in the future.

Please let me know if you would like to discuss this matter further.

Kind Regards,

2. A copy of the Union letter can be attached if you choose

3. If your Prinicipal does not agree with your email, or does not respond, please forward your email and any response to UnionLink at [email protected] and we can assist each individual Member.

This is an issue which has been discussed with the Education Department on numerous occasions in the past. Unfortunately School Principals continue to utilise the role of our Members incorrectly. The best start to dealing with an issue like this is to be aware of your rights, and what you can do to address the issues.

For assistance with this matter, or any other, please do not hesitate to contact UnionLink.

In Unity,

Your UnionLink Team

Appendix 4 Social Media CommitteeSocial Media Report

In January 2016 the WASLA Committee discussed the establishment of a social media presence for WASLA and made the decision to adopt the use of Social Media tools for the promotion of WASLA events, other library and education events and the development and delivery of services to the WASLA members.

It was decided that initially WASLA would set up a Twitter account and a Facebook Closed Group account to establish a digital presence for WASLA.

A Social Media Subcommittee was established with Sarah Betteridge, Mike Spanier and Natasha Georgiou as its members. The subcommittee was responsible for setting up the WASLA Twitter account and Facebook closed group.

WASLA Twitter Account

The decision was made to use @WASLApln as WASLA’s Twitter user name and the hashtag #WASLApln was selected for future WASLA professional development. WASLA’s Twitter account went live on 13th April 2016 and currently has 137 local, national and international followers. Follow WASLA on Twitter at the following link: https://twitter.com/WASLApln

WASLA Facebook Group

The decision was made by the WASLA Social Media Subcommittee to establish a closed Facebook group, the Western Australian School Library Association (WASLA) Closed Group which can be found at the following link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/812877622171734/Anyone wanting to join the group needs to send in a request to join and a group admin (one of the subcommittee) can then approve that request. The WASLA Facebook Group currently has 93 members.
