Scheduling…

 1. Respect your classmates and your teacher.

2. Respect equipment. Use of computers must be in accordance with the Central Bucks School District Technology Use Agreement.

3. Be on time to class. Remain in your seat until the ending bell rings, please.

4. No food or drinks inside the classroom.

5. Ask permission, sign out and take a pass every time you leave the room. Sign

back in and return the pass as soon as you arrive.

General Class Guidelines…

6. Turn off your cell phone and put it away while in the classroom.7. Refrain from using foul language in the classroom.

8. Come to class with a pen/pencil and folder every day.

9. It is every student's responsibility to keep up to date with their work and make up any missing assignments. Check the ‘While You Were Out’ folder regarding missed assignments/homework and returned graded assignments.

Business Today is a foundation course strongly recommended for all students planning a career in business. This introductory course will help students understand the basics of business, the broader economic world in which business exists and create an awareness of the countless career and personal success opportunities available within business world.

Course Content:

Unit 1 – Our Economic Environment (Chaps. 1-4)

Unit 2 – Business Operations (5-8)

East Side Treats ~ Creating a Business Project

Unit 3 – Savings & Investments (33-36)

Unit 4 – Small Business Management (12-14)

Unit 5 – Careers in our Global Economy (18-20, 9)

Unit 6 – Financial Institutions (25-27)

Unit 7 – Credit (29, 31)

Unit 8 – Risk Management (37-39, 41)

Business Today ~

Grades will be assessed on a point system, and then total categories will be weighted as per the percentages listed below. Letter grades will be assigned according to district standards:

Summative Assessment Activities (60% of total grade) ~ • Unit Tests and Chapter Quizzes ~ Each unit exam consists of objective test questions

(multiple choice, true/false, vocab, business math, and fill in the blank). No notes or books may be used on exams.

• Business Plan Project ~ Students will research, understand and prepare a comprehensive, research-based Business Plan project in which a small business (East Side Treats) will be developed and worked through including product development, marketing, management, production, sales and distribution. Proceeds will benefit a charity of student’s choice. So far, close to $1,000 has been donated (in part) to: the Bucks County Autism Coalition, the Travis Manion Foundation {in progress}, Team Greene & Puppy Love Pet Rescue (following Hurricane Sandy)

• Group & Independent Projects ~ Student and/or teacher selected groups will complete a variety of tasks related to each unit’s core material.

Formative Assessment Activities (40% of total grade) ~ • Students will be graded on their contribution to the learning process; points are

earned by productively participating in all class activities, in a timely fashion, at all times. Examples of activities include: study guides, topic activities, exam reviews, project observations, chapter notes, vocabulary, East Side Treats participation and daily journal prompts. Journal Entries must be made up from any dates when absent (journal prompts are posted & students have their own log).

Business Today Grading ~

All students will have an assigned seat and are expected to be in that seat before the beginning bell rings.

Business Today Fact Sheet and Technology Use Agreement is to be signed by student & parents and returned following the first day of class.

Please read the Daily Agenda on the board up front.

‘While You Were Out’…

Students are required to make up any work missed due to absence, sports, meetings, etc.

Check wall pocket for graded work or missed assignments Homework/assignments/quizzes are due within one week, then ‘O’ YOUR (student) responsibility to make arrangements

If you are having difficulty, please see me! I encourage all students to self-advocate.

Lav Passes…ask permission, sign out, take a laminated pass, sign back in and return pass.

Hall Passes…same as above

Lateness/cuts will be dealt with through administration.

Students are to save every single document to their personal student folder on the network; in addition to this, students are welcome to save work onto personal flash drives. Microsoft Office 2013 allows documents to be saved in earlier versions and Microsoft Office 365 is now available to all students.

No Games are permitted during class…including flash drives, proxies, cell phones, texting, Facebook, Twitter, videos, personal email, etc.

Misconduct: Any intentional break of honesty, trust, fairness, respect & responsibility in the academic process. Misconduct will be dealt with seriously and judiciously—see Academic Integrity Infractions in your Student Handbook.

The goal of High School and College Computer Skills is to reinforce and improve fundamental keyboarding skills using MicroType 4, introduce advanced word processing concepts (including the MLA Format), desktop publishing, database and spreadsheet management skills and multimedia presentations using MS Office 2013—Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Publisher.

Web Page Design: Utilizing XHTML (Notepad++) and Adobe Design & Web Premium CS6 (In-Design) , students will learn general design concepts, XHTML coding and the process of developing a Web site from sketches to publishing. Knowledge gained will be useful in both personal and college life, as well as in determining if this is a career path for you.
