Objective: This course will provide students with the fundamental concepts, principles, and ideas needed to understand how business is operated and managed in a rapidly changing global environment, which is needed for success in careers in business related fields. Evaluation

Performance Objective : The student will demonstrate competency in basic computer skills by correctly completing the assignments listed in the LAP and scoring 85% or above on all exams.

The student will be evaluated on the completion of each stated assignment in the LAP. Test and project grades will be recorded and combined with other scores for the grading period. These grades are weighted at 70% of student's final grade for each nine-week period. (See Program Handbook)

NOTE: The student must score 85% or above on each test to proceed to the next section of the course.

Terms you need to know:

Titles: Teknimedia products are referred to by title. Each title includes a number and description (e.g., PC100XP-Basic Skills). Once a specific title has been selected, users have a choice of taking the TekAssess assessment or course based on the title.

TekAssess: TekAssess is Teknimedia’s web-based pre/post assessment tool. TekAssess modules include performance-based and knowledge-based questions. Questions are based on the specific contents of the Teknimedia course that corresponds to the TekAssess assessment.

Courses: Courses include Teknimedia’s instructional content. Courses consist of multimedia lessons, interactive practice exercises, Frequently Asked Questions and quizzes. Course settings can be customized by the user.

From the Main Menu screen, select TekAssess & Courses.

Step 2 of 3 – Taking a TitleFrom the TekAssess & Courses screen, use the drop-down list to select the desired title. Click on the Go button.

Step 3 of 3 – Taking a TitleWhen the title window opens, click on the Continue button to start the course or TekAssess.

Click on Table of Contents to view the list of course sections.

Click on Index to view the list of topics covered by the course.

Click on Exit to close the course window.

Note: Depending on whether TekAssess is required, optional or disabled; the screen that appears when a particular title is selected will vary.

If the User is required to take a Pre or Post Assessment, the appropriate TekAssess logo will appear on the screen. If TekAssess is optional, the User will see a link allowing him/her to skip or enter the assessment. In the screen to the left, if the User clicks on the Continue link, the Pre-Assessment will begin. If the User clicks on the Skip Pre-Assessment link, the course will begin.

TekAssess Guide

An Assessment Guide has been provided for TekAssess to assist Users in understanding the structure and navigation of the assessments.

To access the Guide, click on the View Assessment Guide link.

It is recommended that all Users review the Assessment Guide prior to taking an assessment.

Adjusting Course User Settings

When a particular course is launched, options for various User Settings will appear.

Play Speed: Use the drop-down list to adjust the playback speed. The speed of the narration can be increased or decreased.

Display Text: The text of the narration will be displayed at the bottom of the screen if the Display Text checkbox is selected.

Use Custom Path: A third checkbox will appear if the User has completed the TekAssess pre-assessment for a particular title. When the checkbox is checked, a custom learning path is created

based on the User’s assessment results. Note: Each User may customize these settings for his/her own User ID.
