The winner of the Chamber’s 2015 Shining STAR Small Business of the Year is Vision City, a full service optometry center whose mission is to provide professional eye care services in a comfortable and friendly environment. Accepting the award on behalf of Vision City was Susan Wise and Andrea Maltz. Vision City’s professional eye care team believes healthy eyes are vital to getting the most out of life. Vision City provides the best of care; in October of 2012, owner Dr. Kent Wise was recognized as one of "America's Top Optometrists" by the Consumers Research Council of America. Vision City opened for business in Burleson in 2002. Today, Vision City has fourteen employees at the Burleson location. “Being awarded the Shining Star Small Business of the Year” was a huge honor for Vision City,” says Susan Wise with Vision City. “In this economy it is a blessing to not only operate a small business, but

to keep it going year after year. We are mindful that the thanks of our success belongs to our faithful patients, our amazing staff, and most importantly, to God.”

Vision City sets itself apart with its “small business” approach to customer care. It’s not uncommon to find an employee delivering glasses to someone with transportation issues, or the Vision City team going to nursing and assisted living homes to help those residents that can’t make it out on their own any more.

Susan added that all of the Vision City employees were thankful to receive this award. “What struck me the most at the awards ceremony was seeing a room full of familiar faces and being overcome with humility. Everyone there was just as deserving as us. It was a beautiful thing to be surrounded by people at the Chamber who support each other in such positive ways all year long. There is no fierce competition, even by people in the same line of work. It is a gathering of people in our wonderful town, who stand together at inspiring events put on by the Chamber throughout the year to benefit one another by sharing their time, talents, and knowledge for the betterment of all.”

Vision City has been an active member of the Burleson Chamber for ten years. Susan has served in leadership roles with the Chamber’s Power of Heels (women’s division) on the Executive Committee and as a corporate sponsor of the Power of Heels Holiday Bazaar, luncheons and more.

The Chamber’s mission to promote small business is particularly meaningful to Susan. “Our community has so many wonderful small businesses. Tiffany Griffin, my friend and the owner of Local Life Magazine, proudly wears anything she can find that advertises shopping local... the cutest tee shirt collection I have ever seen! I have found much joy in "shopping small" and in the friendships I have discovered in the small business community.”

The Shining STAR Small Business of the Year award was sponsored by the Office of Economic Development for the City of Burleson.
