How we enjoyed our time with family and friends. It is good to be back home again and to be with Bert after having been apart for so long. We thank the Lord all ran smoothly in our absence, but we now have much catching up to da Artgel is ^ill in jaii. Sev eral hearings have been sched uled, but each one has been postponed because either Angel, the Judge, or the Lawyer didnl show up. I am sure the hearing will be accomplished in His time. Angel is realizing he is in big trouble, and that he needs to re pent. Pray that his repentance for his sins and for his broken rela tionship with the Lord will come from his heart, not just from be ing sorry he was caught. He has decided to tell the truth and has made some statements that are very surprising to us. He has been Involved in much law- breakingI Please pray as he tells the truth that God will protect him from his friends if they find out. Pray that the whole gang can be stopped, and that we will have a chance to share the love of our Lord with them. We thank our Protector that things have been very peaceful. In Lal-lo we have received two new babies. Lea, an Agta baby, came to us just a week old. Her mother was sick and was not able to care for her. She is now well and wants to take Lea home, but the family is still trying to pre pare themselves for the cost of bottle feeding a baby. Next came 3 mo. old Veronica. She was slightly malnourished, and the whole family was in need of help. The father had become mentally ill and was living with his parents, not being able to provide for his family. The mother needed to find work and could not afford to buy milk. Pray we can reach this family with the love of Jesus . We have had two chil dren leave us to join their new families in the states. In Nov., (almost) 3 yr. old Joshua went home v^h his adoptive parents to Illinois. Most recently, 2 yr. old Clarertce (now known as Mi- caela) went home with her adop tive family to Ohio. We praise God for the two wonderful Chris tian families He has provided for Th(sse~ehirdren. Both^are our first Agta children to be adoptedl Please pray for them as they ad just to their new homes, families, cultures, foods, etc. It is a big change for them. We are also thankful to have Marilyn back home with us in Lal-lo (she is our nurse and was managing the Satellite Home white the Davidsons were state side). We are grateful for the safe return of Dick S, Kay DavitL son. Please continue to pray for their health as they love and care for the children in the Solano Home. Their family has also grown by two. One mo. old Ed- gar and 4 mo. old Ariel both come from difficult home situa tions. Praise the Lord the Home is available to them and able to help all the children who are there. RarrMf, who had been with them for 6 mos., went back home with his mother. Pray for opportunities to reach his mother with the love of Jesus and that He may turn her life around, giving hope to Randolf. A bit of sad news - we have discovered that Jose, 13 yrs., has been running with a bad crowd and was involved in some stealing. (He has been with us since he was 10 mos. old, and has lived in the Satellite Horne for 6 yrs.) He has confessed and is trying to change his ways. Please pray for him, that he will seek the Lord for needed change and for strength to say no when tempted. We greatly rejoiced with the good news that Dec. 15**^, Jofm John, 12 yrs. (also in the Satellite home and with us since he was an infant), has given his life to Jesus Christ and was bap tized! Please pray for him to con tinue to grow in the love and knowledge of Jesus Christ and to be strong in resisting the temp tations Satan will put before him. At the first of the year I went to Manila~fo receive a wbh^ derful blessing for the Home through the Philippine Children's Charity Fund (a part of United Way). In celebration of their 5th anniversary they asked different organizations working with chil dren to submit a proposal. Our proposal was for a school build ing, allowing us to receive a per manent permit for our school. We praise the Lord we were in cluded as one chosen to receive funds from them I We were blessed with $4,000.00 now, and will receive another $4,000.00 in June. Praise the Lord for this

dnce again we have begun abusy year, one in which we anticipatemany blessings from the Lord andmuch joy in doing His work..Retreat Refreshment

We started our new year in a mostwonderfulway by attending our annualMissionary Retreat We enjoyed theprecious fellowship, sharing, andprayer time with 50 of our fellow workers and their families. We look forward to this retreat every year, as it isthe only time we see some of ourfriends here. The boys also enjoyspending time with their missionary kidfriends. We thank the Lord for thegenerous gifts of those who made itpossible for us to attend.

Special GuestsAfter the retreat, Mary and the

boys went to Manila for business aswell as pleasure. Mary's parents,Bobby & Jean Pruitt, and our closefriend Nellie Aicorn, received a longawaited welcome. The Pruitts had notbeen here since Jordan's birth in 1984and this was Nellie's first visit: Theirmonth-long stay included some sightseeing and time spent at both children's homes. Theirs was an enjoyable visit, but Bobby was glad to gethome to milk and bread! We praisethe Lord they are strong and healthyand took the time to come.

During their visit a medical teamcame to help with the Agta people. The team was made up of government and non-government people. Some of them spent the night at ourhouse, which brought our 3 bedroomsand living room floor to "full capacity".

Two weeks after Mary's parentsleft, our own "Lola Joy" came back fora visit, bringing her friend VivianHenderson. Joy Coliins lived here atthe home from 1979-1985. She isonce again sewing and making slippers for the kids. Vivian is also busyhelping in many different areas. Theywill be here for two months.

We also have visitors from theInter-Country Adoption Board, YouthWith a Mission, and Seminary guests.A friend from Japan will be arriving ina few days. In addition, the blockmakers are here making blocks for theconstruction of the guest house.

    Much Needed Room i... .. ..'...

Work on the non-resident guesthousing started between the time thePruitts and Nellie left and Lola Joyarrived. We are thankful our home

can provide sleep space for our visitors, but there is a great need forguest housing . We thank the Lord forthose of you who have designatedfunds for this purpose. Of the$10,000 needed, $6,500 is available. Please pray with us concerning thisnecessity, as well as for safety duringconstruction.

Angel is still in jail, and scheduledfor a hearing April 11th. Please continue to pray for him, for a change ofheart, for his safety as well as ours.

Satellite Home UpdateThe Satellite Home has had no

family changes. We praise the Lordfor the physical and spiritual growthwe have seen In the children in bothhomes. We are so thankful we havehad relatively few problems with ourchildren these last few months. Continue to pray for Jose. He was notable to pass his classes at school, buthis attitude is better.

    Mary &

Our little Jovelyn, who is in needof heart surgery, is still waiting to bescheduled. She was scheduled forearly Feb., but when she arrived inManila there was no space for her.We praise the Lord she is doing sowell, has gained weight, and is ingood health. Pray she can be scheduled very soon. Ofelia is 12 yrs. oldbut only about 3 ft. tall. We had herchecked by a doctor because she hadswelling, or lumps in her neck, near

her thyroid. In the process of checkingthe lump, investigations were made asto why she is so small. The lump wasfound to be of no concern for optionalsurgery, but it was found she does nothave the needed growth hormonesrequired for her to grow normally. Shehas physically developed to age 5 andwill stay that way unless she is able toreceive growth hormone injections. These six monthly injections wiil cost$800 each. We just received wonderful news that all six injections arenow funded! We are still checkinginto the risks and side effects. Pleasepray for a wise decision.

    VaccinationsAfter Gil had

gone to the Statesit was found he isa carrier of Hepatitis B. Now that heis back in the Philippines it presentsa problem. Thegovernment hasgiven vaccines forbabies since 1993,but those born before then have notbeen vaccinated. Our nurse went tothe Rural HealthUnit to seek theiraid and they havebeen very coop

erative. The Dr. made arrangementsfor us to pay for the bloodtest/screening, and the governmentwill supply the vaccines for 73 childrenand 40 staff. We praise the Lord achurch has pledged $500 for the expense of the blood tests. Pray thefree vaccines will be given withoutproblems.

Graduates and AwardsThe last of March saw school

closings. It was a very busy time asthere were many places to go. Wehad two graduates from a 2-year program in the Seminaries (one in Aparriand one in Baguio). JoyJoy, who wasin Baguio, graduated with honors. She will be pursuing a physical therapy career if she is able to get herscholarship. We had our own awardsbanquet and graduation for our ACEschool. We had only one 6th gradegraduate this year. I wish I could listall the awards received as I am veryproud of the children and how wellmost of them did this year. Jacob gota medal for having the most 100's inthe school, and Jordan got medalsfor Leadership award, Mr. Progress, and Best in Music. Jessie, who hasbeen studying in Medical School, graduated this year! Of the 18 students who started with his class, 12finished. Of those 12, only 5 completed all requirements to receive their

service you perform is not%fnly supplying the needs of^od's people but is also overflowing in many expressions ofthanks to God. Because of theservice by which you haveproved yourselves, men will\praise God for the obedience\that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, andfer your generosity in sharingwith them and with everyone

We are so thankful for all of youwho have so generously given of yourmoney and prayers, making it possiblefor this ministry to continue. Westarted the month of January in debt, but we are thankful for God's provisionthrough all of you. We were able to

cover that debt.meet all our expenses for thatmonth, plus provide for some extra expenses. Because of the constant price andsalary increases,we are having difficulty meeting our

;| budget. We havenot been able topay the salary increase that cameinto effect the endof January. We

I would like to payour staff their

proper salary, as most of them arevery underpaid in comparison to whatthe government can pay. Our nurse isreceiving a salary equivalent to ajanitor. Our professional's salaries arevery low and our other staff is beingpaid minimum wage. We appreciateour staff and their many hours of hardwork, and are grateful for their dedication even though their salary is low.We also have many needed repairs. Please pray with us about these increases to our budget. We are considering seeking someone who couldtravel and raise funds for the Home. Please pray with us for God's will in all

these matters, and for our faith to bestrong, to wait for God to meet ourneeds.

Dear Friends In Christ,"But now that you have been

set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefityou reap leads to holiness, andthe result is eternal life. For thewages of sin is death, but thegift of God is eternal life inChrist Jesus our Lord." Rom.6:22-23

Set Free!We praise God for the 45 who accepted the Lord and were baptized during the annual Agta Christian Convention in April. We werehonored with guests from the CEDAR Foundation in Hong Kong, which sponsors a number of Agtachildren for their schooling. The local Armed Forces were very helpful, taking their truck to different villagesto give people rides so they couldattend. They also donated somerice, a blessing as we were expecting 400 and 600 were in attendance! We are grateful to you forthe funds given to continue the Agtaministry. Because of the improvements in many of their lives andtheir new outlook on life as theyhave come to know the Lord, manyare much healthier and do not needas much medical help. Continuepraying for this work.

New LifeThe kids had a goodworking, playing, andcamp, VES, and otherMany took vacations at their homesor with relatives. We rejoiced asseveral of our young peopleopened their hearts toJesus and followedthrough with baptism.During camp our own sonJordan finalized his decision to follow Christthrough baptism. Soonafter, 5 young ladies fromour church made theircommitment to Christ.Four other children, aswell as our Michelle andEdralin, accepted Christand were baptized. These young people havebeen in the Home or thechurch for many years. Theyhave studied and come to this wonderful decision. Pray for their walkin the Lord, that their love and faithwill grow and that they will want toserve Him.

School's Open! There are 6 children in high school,48 in elementary, and 15 in kinder

    summer,

    going toactivities.

garten. Two are in college nearbyand 1 attending Aparri Bible Seminary. The Satellite Home has 4 inelementary, 2 in high school, and 1in Seminary in Baguio. Joy Joyremains one of the top students inher physical therapy studies.Jessie, our med. school grad, isinterning in a Gov. hospital in Manila. He is working hard and doingwell. Thank you for his continuedsupport.

r Almost FinishedThe non-resident housing is nearlycompleted! We are very gratefulfor the funds designated for thisproject. Eldon and Sue Potts, whotravel throughout the States to raisemoney for projects in the Philippinesand other countries, organize agroup every year to come here andhold seminars, followed by a bigparty for the children at the Home. This year's group included menknowledgeable in construction, so 8individuals spent 10 days here tohelp finish the guesthouse. Theyput in wiring, ceiling, and finishedbathrooms. Two wives in the grouphelped Mary and spent time with thechildren. How grateful we are for allthey accomplished in spite of oursweltering heat! Funds are nowneeded to purchase paint, linoleum, furnishings, etc.

Eldon and the rest of the groupjoined those already here at theHome on June 25. We fellow-shipped for three days with our 20plus visitors! We had a simplededication of the guesthouse, aparty, and enjoyed much talking.

other important things. Amparohelped around the house, in thekitchen, and with the kids. Arrivingin the midst of all this was AmyForsberg from Forest Grove, OR.Amy has been here before and hascome back to help for 3 mos.Lance & Kim Marshall, from Nebraska Christian College arrived justbefore school started. Kim is fulfilling her internship and spent 2weeks working in our school, thenmoved on to Aparri where Lancetaught at the seminary. Be in prayerwith them as they explore areaswhere they might serve in the Philippines.

50 Year CelebrationAparri Christian Hospital wasdedicated June 23, as well as celebrating the 50-year anniversary ofCharles & Roberta Selby's arrivalin the Philippines on June 22, 1947.They and their niece Jessica werehere for a beautiful program held inthe parking lot of the hospital, alongwith the mayor and 300 others! Forthe dinner following the dedicationwe donated some meat and manypineapples from our garden. Ourvisitors have enjoyed our abundantand very sweet pineapples. TheLord has truly blessed our gardenand rice harvests.

Computer Teacher Needed! We were given the opportunity topurchase several computers (fromthe States) at a very low price forour bookkeeper and social workers, and for our ACE school. Now weneed a very patient person with lots

of time to come here andteach us how to use them.

Medical ConcernsWe thank the Lord we havereceived the money to buymedication for Ofelia, butwe have not yet been ableto follow up with her Doctor. Our nurse will be going to Manila soon and willtry again to make contactand arrange for her treatment.

Our other medical concernis the Hepatitis-B vaccines. We have found

there are four Hepatitis-B carriers in the Home, and we must receive the vaccines to protect thechildren and the staff. The bloodtests we thought we would have topay for, we were able to get forfree! But the vaccines (series of 3shots per person) we thought wewould receive for free, we will have

God Enables through Ybu1 '^Several times recently we havementioned that our funding is low. When money is given to the Home itgoes into the general fund unlessdesignated otherwise. We are verythankful for the designated fundsthat have been given for specialprojects, but our general fund Isway below our ''iiuifn". We wererequired to give a salary increase toour staff in Jan., but have not yetbeen able to do so. Prices continue to rise and our workers arehaving a hard time making endsmeet. The lack of funds is also affecting the Home, as we are notable to make needed repairs. Oftenthe children must wait for things(shoes, etc.), as there are no fundsavailable. Income from donationshas dropped from $12,500 per mo.to $11,000 over the last severalmonths. To increase salaries, provide necessities for the children, make repairs, and maintain thehome we need $16,000 per mo. Weknow most of you reading this letterare already very faithful supporters. You are our lifeline through whichGod provides all we need. We cannot continue without you. Pleasejoin us in lifting this situation beforethe Lord.

We sent apublic service announcement for thefather to come, figuring he wouldrelease them as well, or not evenshow. Surprisingly, he did comeand informed us his wife had toldhim the boys were no longer here.He took them for a vacation andthey all decided they wanted to gohome. Because Dennis is blind, arrangements were made with a(Christian) relative living in Tu-guegarao for Dennis to stay with herand attend the blind class in one ofthe schools. Pray for continuedspiritual growth for these boys, astheir father is not Christian. JaylordDabon (12 yrs.) has gone home forseveral vacations, but this time heand his mother decided he shouldstay. Dear Friends:

How wonderful to know that God's love includes sending His Son to die onthe cross for our sins, making ourforgiveness possible.

Anotheroption may be traveling and reporting on our behalf (while we arein the Philippines) to churches, camps, etc. This would make ourfurloughs less hectic. Pray theirfuture plans will be directed by theLord, and thank Him for their obedience to Him.

;Fi^ANClAL CONCERNS are becoming larger. The last few months ofincome has fallen as low as$9,000 per mo. We do not havethe money to make the manyneeded repairs or to keep up themaintenance of the Home. Thediet of the children is beginningto suffer. We need your help! Inpast years we have required atleast $12,500 per mo. to operatethe Home adequately. But in 1997this amount of money is not adequate. We now need a minimumof $16,000 per mo. to operate theHome. This is due to an increasein prices, inflation, and mandatorywages, which we have not beenable to pay our workers. Thismakes times difficult for them aswell. We are thankful they arededicated and remain with us.Most of you are generous andfaithful supporters and some ofyou have been supporting us for20 years! We ask for your helpby making others aware of ourfinancial needs. Maybe you cantalk with your churches or Biblestudy groups, etc. If 35 churchesor groups each give $100 per mo.our monthly budget would be met.At this time, we also need addi-
