By: Jonathan Rayos

A bully is someone who is mean and attacks other people with words or

actions.

Bullying is a significant problem that is steadily increasing.

Both boys and girls bully, with female bullying taking indirect,

manipulative forms.

There are many reasons why bullies harass people.

Studies show that most children who

become bullies are physically or verbally abused in their homes.

Some bully because they have a size advantage over others….

…while other kids and teens are bullied because of their religion, skin color, or sexual orientation.

There are at least four different types of bullying.

physical verbal cyberemotional

Physical Bullying

Hitting, pinching, and scratching are all forms of

physical bullying.

Name calling, making racist,

sexist, or homophobic jokes, are all

types of verbal bullying.

Verbal Bullying

is spreading nasty stories about someone, and excluding them from social groups.

Emotional Bullying

Cyber Bullying

Threatening text messages, phone calls, E-mailing, and video taping for public humiliation are all types of cyber bullying.

About 21% of kids have received mean or threatening e-mails.

Girls are twice as likely as boys to be both victims and perpetrators

of cyber-bullying.

Does this really seem fun to you?

Bullying can make kids not want to play outside or go to school.

It is estimated that 160,000 children miss school every

day due to fear of attack or intimidation

by other students.

Bullying can have devastating long-term effects on its victims.

Kids who are bullied are more likely to consider or commit suicide.

Young kids that bully others are four times more likely to have

a criminal record by age 30.

Being bullied can make you feel…

SAD

LONELY

HOPELESS

AFRAID

and ABUSED.

Here are three important steps to follow when dealing with a bully:

Step 1 Ignore and try to avoid the bully.

Step 2Be confident - try to talk it out or walk away and avoid physicality.

Step 3If the bullying continues, seek help

from a Teacher or other adult.

Bullying affects everyone, whether you are the attacker, or the victim.

It’s better to make friends than break friends.
