‘n NUWE hart sukses

The beautiful Letaba River running parallel to a stretch of Claude Wheatley Street in Tzaneen has become home to yet another sangoma (above), barely one hundred meters from Molalat-ladi Makgoba, better known as “King Maphungubwe”. Maphungubwe told us that everyone in Tzaneen knows that the area was his. Previous efforts to remove him failed and the GTM don’t

Is the lawless way of striking a major concern for our country’s economy, or do you feel for the strikers and do you support their actions?

Hoekom

sal hulle hul werk doen?

How long do you think will the GTM’s rate payers be patient and accept the damage caused by municipal workers?

Pat Patterson  Can we stand together and do something if the police cannot?

Rodney Sabatier  I think most of us have had enough already. I think we should withhold rates etc. until criminal charges are brought against

those responsible and civil claims for all damages against the union. The commander of Tzaneen police should be charged with dereliction of duty.

Craig John Woodward  Construct palissade fencing around Municipal o ces to avoid future tar dancing!

Dale Kenney  Pat and Rodney, I agree, we rate payers have to stand together now, withhold our rates and taxes or pay them into a trust account! its

obvious that GTM is in a mess. This is really unfair that we have to continue paying for their damages!

Amanda Strydom  We all stand together? Not in this life time. Destruction and boxes full of printing paper. GTM are paying for it with who›s

money? But who cares a sh...t? Vavi, are paying for food to feed the children at home, or am I dreaming? RSA, a third world  country, no, let‘s try fth. Pathetic, I get so mad. I assure you, try not paying the water and lights, the next minute the electricity is gone! But Mrs Khulumako will still have her lights burning through the night! Police? No way, they do not even have enough patrol cars to assist the ones who are really in danger.

Chantelle Van Zyl  I agree, Amanda Strydom. I was assaulted at home. The police didn‘t even take my statement or anything! Pathetic!

Ms Margot McNeil, a DA councillor in Tzaneen, was bound and gagged and then robbed at her house in Agatha. Although some of her valuables were looted, she es-caped unharmed.

According to her, she was just dozing

off last Thursday night around 23:30 when she saw dark shapes at her bed-room window. The next moment she realised the “big birds” (as she first

assumed) were three men climbing in through her window.

She was forced out of the bed and told to point out valuables. Her hands and feet were then tied to the bed and she was gagged. The robbers proceeded to clear valuables in the main bedroom and study, which included jewellery, money and McNeil’s laptop and cell phone.

The robbers then disappeared into the night, leaving her to wiggle loose and call for help. Her neighbours, the Martin Gubitz family, came to her res-cue, and she would like to thank them for all their help and support.

Gideon Joubert.

UDI for H’burgThe romantic village in the Berg — Haenertsburg — will become independent on 1 December. The new Mountain Republic will be celebrated during a fascinating programme and there will be lots of fun to be had. The Unilateral Decleration of Independence (UDI) will see a new flag and coat of arms for the new republic being introduced on that day. Watch the Bulletin for further in-formation regarding the election of a president and members of the ‘Volksraad’. A range of new laws will also be announced on Independence Day (1 December) and all “uitlanders” from places like Tzaneen and Polokwane, as well as other outlaws are being warned to behave when within the borders of the new republic.

It is indeed a tough time for the criminals in Tzaneen, as the police are fi ghting crime in full force to make the town safe.

The police in Tzaneen have done it again during the weekend, by arresting 47 people for miscella-neous criminal activities.

According to Tzaneen Police communication offi cer Cst David Seale they have arrested ten peo-ple for violation of the road traf-fi c act, fi ve for drinking in public, two for fraud and two for urinating in public. Seale also said the police managed to arrest three for selling liquor without a li-cense, one for illegal trading, six for shoplift ing, four for assault with GBH, two for common robbery, nine for loitering, one for possession of a dangerous weapon and one for theft .

Meanwhile the Tzaneen Magis-trates Court sen-tenced three men

fore imprisonment for terrorising the South African Teachers Union’s offi ces at Lushof Plot, Deerpark. Nito Mario Machoe (38) from Mo-zambique was sentenced to forty years imprisonment. Jeff ery Mo-hale Moloto (37) from Khujwana was sentenced to thirty years im-prisonment and Nelito Mathebula (27), also from Mozambique, was sentenced to spend the next ten

years of his life behind bars.Seale appealed to community members to cooperate with the

POLICE NEWSPOLISIENUUS

With the festive season around the corner the Tzaneen Cluster com-mander, Maj Gen Maggy Mathebula, appointed Col Matome Sekhwela as Bolobedu’s new station commander, to enforce his strategies in fighting crime in the area. Sekh-wela co-ordinated vis-ible policing activities for all the police stations in the cluster, before being transferred. The Tzaneen Cluster appeals to com-munity leaders and struc-tures in Bolobedu to support Sekhwela in all aspects, including expos-ing criminals and syndi-cates involved in crime.

In an unusual, but expected departure from procedure the chairperson of the Standing Committ ee on Public Accounts (Scopa), Mr Derrick Ngobeni, led a standing ovation for the MEC for Safety, Security and Liaison, Ms Florence Radzilani, for her department’s good and satisfactory response to questions on the reports of the Auditor-General (AG) to the Limpopo Legislature on Financial State-ments and Performance Information for the year ended 31 March 2012.

The standing ovation occurred during the Scopa public hearing on the department’s AG reports of the fi nancial year ending 31 March 2012.

The standing ovation was on account of the department having had responded ad-

equately to the queries raised in the AG’s au-dit fi ndings for 2011/2012. What impressed the chairperson even more, was where the MEC acted when she was called upon to act to ensure clean governance in the depart-ment.

“We don’t clap hands ordinarily,” Ngobeni said. “We now want a clean audit at the end of the fi nancial year.”

The offi ce of the AG expressed satisfaction with the department’s strategy towards a clean audit.

In her response Radzilani said that things fall apart if those privileged with the respon-sibility to lead, fail to lead. “We commit to work diligently in serving our people of Lim-popo.”

The Letsitele police are living up to the words of their pro-vincial commissioner, Lt Gen Simon Mpembe, when he in-structed them to intensify operations and increase visibility during the launch of operation duty calls.

As the police intensifi ed their ope-rations, 41 people were arrested dur-ing the week. According to Letsitele

police com-munication

offi cer Cst Ntsako Mabunda thirteen people were arrested for violation of the road traffi c act, two for theft , one for burglary, one for common assault and two for possession of stolen prop-erty. He added that seventeen were also arrested for drinking in public and two for possession of dagga.

Mabunda applauded the Ritavi magistrates court for sentencing

three suspects for rob-bing and killing Mr Robbert Mdaka of Mokgwathi village

in 2009. Power Mubtu Ubisi (27), Debruin Ngobeni (26) and Tumelo Mahlo (23) were sentenced for mur-der to life imprisonment, for robbery fi ft een years, for possession of an unlicensed fi rearm ten years and for possession of unlawful ammunition to fi ve years. — Martina Jege

oordoen van my huisie.Waar kry ek my skoonseun, skoondogter

en my seun se gelyke!

Baie dankie.

Our opinion The Message

BarbariansWorkers with grievances who wilfully and maliciously damage public and/or pri-vate property are hooligans and vandals, be it in Greece, Spain, Egypt, London or Tzaneen.

The members of Samwu in Tzaneen who now make a habit of descending on town and causing havoc, are nothing less than hooligans and vandals.

They don’t deserve to be in managerial positions, they don’t deserve any sympa-thy, they deserve to be punished, they deserve to be isolated from civilisation and they dont deserve any support, even though they may show cause.

Governments in the Western world exer-cise far too much patience with hooligan-ism, and it will not surprise us one bit if the decent and civilised people in commu-nities start some sort of counteroff ensive to fi ght all forms of vandalistic hooliganism.

The Tzaneen community is at the point where the despicable conduct of the peo-ple whose salaries are being paid by the community, ought to be considered.

In the meantime the lame att itude of the police to act against people who clearly, openly and defi antly challenge the laws of the country, is pathetic and counterpro-ductive.

The poltroonery of the GTM’s council-lors and top management in this matt er is equally untenable.

By Rev Ron Reiners

I have a great family, a family who loves each other, spots and all. However, we are not perfect and oft en we do have our diff erences but through prayer and communication we sort out these diff erences. One thing in all of this is our constant love for one an-other.

The diff erence between our love for each other and the love that Christ has for each and everyone, is that Christ loves us unconditionally. He is not someone who gets angry at us for something we have said or done, He is ready to forgive, in fact He forgives us even before we ask. This is oft en not the case in some families, they bear grudges against each other which oft en leads to the breakdown in relationships. Many of us are afraid of failure; failure in or work, failure in society, failure in our relationships and failure in serving God.

So how do we turn this all around? By having FAITH and allowing each other to make mistakes, but by being there for them, not criticiz-ing them but, by building the up. Reassuring them that we have faith in them and that although they do make mistakes our love for them will never change. This is how Jesus sees us and I believe this is what He does, although we oft en do not call upon Him. We think that our problem is of less importance to Him when He is faced with all the problems in the world today.

Jesus is interested in everything we do and He is there for us no mat-ter what. All we need if FAITH. So let us all try to be more like Him. Forgive that person who was sluggish in serving you at the store or petrol station. Do you actually know what they are dealing with? It is a known fact that “A soft word turneth away anger.” So perhaps, we could just thank this person for the work they are doing even if it was not up to standard. In doing so I believe that this person will have a change of heart the next time you come into contact with them.

It is in being more Christ-like that we will turn this nation into one which we all would like. Remember Christ’s instructions to His dis-ciples in John 13 v 34-35 “A new command I give you, that you love one another as I have loved you…”

Greater Letaba is wasting moneyThe DA in the Greater Letaba Municipal-ity (GLM), is extremely disturbed to dis-cover that the municipality has spent over R3 million on catering and accommodation between July and September.

This wasteful expenditure should be seen in the context of poor service delivery in the municipality, such as lack of access to wa-ter and other basic amenities, said Mr Matie Willemse, the DA councillor.

“Within these three months this munici-pality has spent more on non-service deliv-ery issues such as travelling, catering and accommodation for its offi cials. More than R258 689 was spent on catering, R153 510 on travelling and R303 161 on accommodation within a month, that escalated to more than R3m within three months.

“By contrast places like Goudplaas and Modjadjiskloof have been without water for a month now, while part of Kgapane and other surrounding areas have been without water since last year — while the roads are in a poor condition.

“The Auditor-General’s report released recently shows that the GLM is one of the worst performing municipalities, who failed to get a clean audit in their previous fi nancial year,” Willemse said.

“I have asked for the matt er to be investi-gated, as we regard this as a pure fruitless expenditure. Up to so far, our att empts to

get the complete picture of this irregular expenditure by accessing information from this municipality have been barred by the mayor,” said Willemse.

Hallo, hallo...!The Education Department’s Mopani Dis-trict is now also hit by their Telkom tele-phones being suspended, as a result of the provincial education department’s has fail-ure to pay the Telkom account.

The department’s telephone lines in Wa-terberg were also cut this week, for the same reason.

Our att empts to call the provincial depart-ment to speak to someone about this gave us the signal that their telephone lines were also not working.

“Being in the middle of the examination period, as it is now, this situation is com-pletely unacceptable,” said Ms Desiree van der Walt, the DA’s spokesperson on educa-tion.

«When I encountered the MEC of Educa-tion, Mr Masemola, in a portfolio commit-tee of education, I asked him about this. In a nonchalant and uncaring response, he sim-ply said I should ask the administrator.

“This att itude confi rms our long held view that Mr Masemola should have been made to vacate this position a long time ago. His continuous failures at the helm of this de-

partment and his refusal to accept responsi-bility shows litt le concern for the education of our children.

“I will write to Premier Mathale to ask him to take urgent to restore telephone lines in our education system,” Van der Walt said.

Dit is gro-tendeels landbougrond by genoeg water.

Residents in Tzaneen’s luxury security vil-lage, Golden Acres, are still in shock aft er Sunday’s armed robbery in the complex. This comes aft er a young lady was allegedly att acked in the complex not very long ago.

Mr Willie du Plessis, his wife Raaikie and their son Gertjie were ambushed by seven men in the Du Plessis’ house.

Tzaneen police communication offi cer Cst David Seale said that around 04:00 Sunday seven men entered the house, aft er they had broken an outside door.

“The suspects held the family at gun point, while one person (Gertjie) opened the safe. The suspects took an undisclosed amount of money, a 9 mm pistol, the victims’ wedding rings, a necklace and a pair of earrings. No-

body was injured”, according to Seale. It is said that the security guard at the en-

trance to the complex was sleeping while the robbery took place. However, the robbers got access from the side of the Tzaneen Dam, af-ter they had cut the fence to get into the com-plex. Footprints confi rm that they parked their vehicle next to the R71.

Du Plessis sr is the owner of the well-known Harmonie Abbatoir between Lenyenye and Ofcolaco. For obvious safety reasons the Du Plessis’ didn’t want their photos taken.

Police investigations continue and anyone with information should contact detective w.o Shikwambana on 083 5320 451 or 015 306 7684.

VOOR & DAARNA

Danksy barmhartige samaritane in Tzaneen is ‘n wooneenheid in ‘n af-tree-oord pragtig oorgedoen.

The Headmaster of Stanford Lake Col-lege for the past fi ve years, Mr Johann Ueckermann, is heading back to Jo-hannesburg in December to take up his new position as Executive Head-master at one of the fl agship schools in Curro Holdings, Curro Aurora (as was reported in Bulletin last week).

He said that this up and coming school in Randburg will soon host 1 900 pupils and described the opportu-nity to become part of a bigger listed setup as fantastic, although he is sad to leave the mountain.

He refl ected upon his tenure at SLC and described it as a gratifying and satisfying tenure with SLC achieving fantastic results in all areas and expo-nential growth in its facilities.

In terms of quality education, the Gr 12’s produced some excellent results over the fi ve year period. “If, as expect-ed, the current 2012 matrics obtain an

unblemished record; 90% BD and two distinctions per candidate; we would have maintained a 100% pass rate, en-abling 85, 34% of our students to att end university with an average 1,6 distinc-tions per candidate, ” said Ueckermann.

SLC dominated the Small Schools and the Independent Schools sporting arena and provides a rich and varied cultural programme.

“I was very pleased with a recent survey amongst top government of-fi cials and leading businessmen in the province. SLC was rated as the best independent school in Limpopo and we received the highly acclaimed Diamond Award from PVR. Another achievement was our inclusion in the Top 100 RSA schools list of the Alan Gray Orbis Foundation.”

In February 2010 the family’s life crumbled when their grandchild was abducted. The Stanfordian family and

the community rallied their support in wonderful ways and they will always remember them for that.

He thanks the Stanfordian and the English speaking community in Lim-popo for accepting him, a ‘Boerseun’ into their fold. In the words of a men-tor, Frederik van Zyl Slabbert, “There is not much I could, or can, do about it.” Or as Jean-Paul Sâtre put it: “You are a Jew because I look at you.” Even if I have off ended all the stereotypes of what an Afrikaner is, I remain a way-ward, rebel, atypical Afrikaner. So be it, said Ueckermann.

The family is committ ed to retire in Tzaneen in ten years’ time.

He is extremely happy about his deputy, Mr Craig Carolan’s appoint-ment as the new Headmaster of SLC. He describes Carolan as “an energetic man who will achieve many great things in education in his lifetime.”

Ueckermann heads back to Jo’burg

Mr Craig Carolan, current Deputy Headmaster of Stanford Lake College has, aft er an exhaustive search, been appointed by the Letaba Educational Trust as the new Headmaster.

Carolan and his family moved to ‘the mountain’ aft er fi ft een years in the United Kingdom where he taught at two exceptional English indepen-dent schools, Caterham and Whitgift . Prior to that he taught at Durban High School in Kwa-Zulu Natal.

Carolan brings a wealth of experience to Stanford Lake College. His expertise lie in critical and creative thinking skills, and he believes that empowering

young people to become independent thinkers, as well as disciplined academics will enable them to achieve in the ever-changing world we live in. He represented SA as a hockey player and also believes that education should be a holistic, all-round investment in a child. The focus of all schools should be on developing each child to their full po-tential.

Carolan believes that SLC has already positioned itself as a beacon of excellence in Limpopo and he is looking for-ward to taking the school to even greater heights in the near future.

Carolan, his wife Penny and their two children, Matt hew and Samantha, are very excited to have been welcomed into the Stanford family and look forward to many successes in the upcoming years.

Carolan will bring a lot to SLC

Win a ½ carat diamondAfter more than a week since the key broke off in the door’s lock, a main entrance to the Tzaneen Post Office is accessible again. According to the branch manager, Mr Rod-ney Mogoboya, the door’s key broke when they tried to open it one morning. Asked why it had taken so long for the lock to be fixed, he said that it was done as quickly as possible and he apologised for any incon-

venience caused.

As part of their social responsibility Butter-field Bakery in Tzaneen regularly gives back to the community. Each year they choose a school and ask the school to identify a need they can fulfil. This year Unity Primary School was chosen and indicated that they have great need for a shelter against the rain en sun for pupils waiting for buses and taxis. Butterfields

spent R11 400 building a shelter where pupils can now wait. Seen here are a few Unity pupils holding up a signboard under their new shelter. In die back are Messrs Piet Prinsloo (Butter-field Tzaneen), Floors van Zyl (MD Butterfield), Rudi Jansen (business consultant) and Pierre

van Staden (Unity’s Deputy Principal). Photo: Retha Nel

The Steers take-away restaurant at the Sasol R71 in Tzaneen was opened in 2005. “After seven years it has become old and tired and in need of a facelift,” said Ms Noelle Ellis, a man-ager at the Sasol R71. “We are heading for a busy holiday season, and we would like to of-fer customers an awesome experience! So we decided to revamp our store before the Xmas holidays start.” The restaurant will be closed from Monday (19 November) and the “new” restaurant should open again on Thursday.

The new look is named STEERS UNCUT. The restaurant will also implement the new purple square system, to improve speed and accu-racy, ensuring that customers get exactly what they want really quickly! Ellis also said “we ap-preciate customers’ loyalty and support, since it is not always easy to get in and out of our site, but we are in the process of finalising all our accesses and hope to have it all sorted out early in the new year.” The photo shows what

the ‘new’ Steers will look like.

The new kid on the block, Tzaneen Lifestyle Centre, is celebrating turning one year old.

With 21 shops that cater for dining, grocery shopping, clothing, furniture, cell phones and stationery, Tzaneen Lifestyle Centre has something for every shopper’s taste.

Tzaneen Lifestyle Centre is owned by the Resilient Property Income Fund. It owns a portfolio of dominant regional malls and shopping centres, mostly situ-ated in non-metropolitan areas.

Tzaneen Lifestyle Centre is appreciated and praised for its convenient parking which caters for disabled people and also has parent-child parking ports.

Mr Jones van Wyk (Pharmacist/Manager) of Van Heerden’s phar-macy said that they had seen a magnifi cent growth in the busi-ness since moving to the centre.

His clients found the new store convenient and easy to access. He remarked that since moving to the centre there has been an infl ux of travelers visiting the phar-macy on their way to Kruger National Park.

Van Wyk complimented the centre’s bath-

rooms on cleanliness and hygiene and said the centre in general was well-kept.

He wished to thank clients for their con-tinued support and reassured that they will continue to provide the best service they can, as well as a large variety of products stocked.

Mr Philip Jacobs (store manag-er) of House of Interiors said they moved into the centre in July and business is good. He mentioned that the store was the fi rst of its kind in Tzaneen and invited people to visit them for help with home decorating, furniture or fl owers.

With the milestone of its fi rst birthday, Ms Hanlie Aucamp (cen-tre manager) announced that PEP Home and Shoe City will soon open shops in the centre.

The long awaited Checkers Liquor will also be opening its doors soon, she said.

Shoppers can look forward to more de-velopments at this centre, which will make it rival even the most popular of shopping centres.• Bulletin supports local shopping.

Stumbelbloc is a revolution-ary way to build a structure at twice the speed of traditional building methods, at almost half the cost. Using Stum-belbloc’s innovative moulds, building a structure is as sim-ple as stacking blocks.

Stumbelbloc hollow core blocks can be made on-site using the moulds, with ba-sic manual labour and with-out any external power (fi ft y blocks per day per unskilled labourer). This simple design means that transport, produc-tion costs and carbon foot-print are all minimized.

The interlocking blocks are made by fi lling plastic moulds with a concrete mix and then left to dry. The fi nished prod-uct is an accurate, hollow-core block with a special interlock-

ing shape. The design elimi-nates the need for profi les, lines and constant lever check-ing, speeding up the building process. Building is also sped up by using the “dip and pack” method, which is more economical and stronger than using the conventional mortar method. Bed mortar called Blockgrip is used as a glue to keep the blocks together.

A Stumbelbloc wall of 16 m x 2 m can be built from a foundation within forty minutes and a small house to roof level can be completed within only two days!

The system requires no lin-tels and the complete struc-ture can assume full load-bearing immediately.

By using Stumbelbloc, a sin-gle person or even a communi-

ty can be empowered to create employment for themselves.

Recently one bricklayer foreman, two handymen and four labourers erected a two bedroom 42 m2 cott age in six hours! Mr André Esterhui-zen, owner of Stumbelbloc, said that the total cost of the completed cott age was only R57 000 and the quality is far superior to that of traditional low-cost housing. Only six bags of cement were needed to bond the brickwork and only 0,46 m3 of Skimplas-ter rendering were needed to render the exterior of the house (at a lower cost than that of conventional plaster).
